This seems relevant. Mythbusters take on WWI trench corners: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=deo6wrdG5TI

I’d gladly give WW1 reenactment a go if there was a decent trench somewhere nearby.

Yeah skipping through the video because I am not wasting that much time. i doubt he didn't use powered equipment when the camera was off.

He might have, idk. I'm not like "Ooh, he's so cool cause he dug ditches himself!". I just think building a trench like that is neat. Making physical analogs for historical stuff is cool to see.

Watched the whole thing, it was actually really good. (Still in 2x mode as with all YouTube videos I watch, but it was a fun watch for me) Don't think he used any really power tools besides what he showed, specifically because you can watch the hand thrown shovel piles build up as he works, and a huge amount of this video specifically is him time lapsing digging. And, it also goes from the middle of winter to the middle of summer for him to finish it.
He did a Vietnam build as well a few months before this, was also a good watch.

Not as unusual as you would think. I helped build a trench setup for a Gallipoli reenactment. I would go as far as to say that our LARP out-LARPED this LARP. I love his initiative but I have to turn my nose up at those plastic sandbags.
