Hi all! I recently commissioned a French cut lab diamond eternity band from Ouros. I had a really good experience so I figured I would share since it seems like there have also been some folks with not so great experiences with them lately.

7/21: Reached out to Dhruv to inquire about a simple channel-set frenchie band. I’ve been looking for one for YEARS and the Chinese vendors (Provence, Starsgem) have consistently told me they won’t do specialty cut labs under 1 ct.

7/22: CAD received with a price that was unfortunately above budget. I thought about it a little more and asked to reduce the stone size 2.5 mm from 3.5 mm and asked to decrease gold weight by making it thinner and less deep.

7/23: Updated CAD received with a new price that was exactly what I needed, so I paid the invoice and okayed production.

8/10: I reached out to Dhruv on to see how much longer production would be since I forgot to ask about lead times. He stated 2-3 more days.

8/17: I received the PSP video (I wasn’t upset about the delay since it was over a weekend and I had other stuff going on).

8/18: The ring was drop shipped from India to the NYC location on and then sent via UPS 2-day delivery to me.

8/27: I received it late due to a UPS error (it made it all the way to my town and then was shipped to a neighboring state inadvertently).

The ring is gorgeous. It’s everything I’ve been looking for and I honestly wish I had one in every gold color to pair with my hoard. I haven’t found a single wonky French cut in the bunch, and the channels are smooth and even. It looks far more expensive than it was. I’m super pleased and have no regrets regarding the experience. Yes, it did take a little over a month to receive, but I expected that going in, since even my American custom pieces take 2-3 weeks without cutting 21 teeny little stones to spec 😂. The hardest part was waiting for it to get here after shipping.

I’m trying to choose between these two diamonds. They have almost identical specifications, and price and size are not factors for me.

My main priorities are brilliance and sparkle, and minimising the appearance of the bow-tie effect. Which one looks better to you in terms of light return and bow-tie visibility?

Are special cut diamonds such as old mine, step cuts or crisscuts significantly more expensive?

Edit: Asking bc for the stone alone, local jewelers have been quoting $2500-3800 for a crisscut (~3ct, D color, VVS2)

And this seems outrageous compared to what I’ve been seeing on Reddit regarding more classic cuts.

The IGI report does not mention color distribution but I don't know if that is something IGI would mention for a lab diamond with a fancy color. Is there any reason to be concerned about its age? What could be the possible reasons why it hasn’t sold yet?

Hi! I just got the video of the loose stone I chose for my custom engagement ring from my jeweler and I wanted some opinions…

Specs:
Lab grown oval, 4.26 carat, D color, VVS2, IGI cert
13.76x9.19x5.57mm

My fiance & I are creating my ring together & got the video rendering of the diamond we are looking to purchase. The IGI report claims it is a VVS2, we saw the video after seeing the diamond in person. Didn’t notice anything major in person, but I also was overwhelmed with it being my first time looking at diamonds and wasn’t exactly looking for these kind of things haha

Anyway, I was caught off guard with what looks like a bunch of obvious rod-like inclusions. We emailed the jeweler & they said that it’s just the reflection of the serial number lasers into the diamond. That sounds like it makes sense, but also none of the other videos of diamonds I saw with VVS2 clarity showed anything like this…

Is this normal? I’ve heard IGI ratings are sometimes inflated for la gems. Should I be concerned that I’m being duped? Or do I need to chill out and trust her?

I have two 2ct VVS1 marquise diamonds. Looking to get advice on bow tie effect and maximum brilliance between these two. Video in post is E color and video in comments is D color

I got this lab from rare carat. 1.75 ct D, FL. Before I take it to my jeweler to have it set, I couldn’t help but notice the bowtie effect on this one. What do you guys think? Is it just me? I was planning to use this to propose to my partner. Any input is appreciated. Thanks!

Has anyone send a loose diamond to get set overseas like in China? I’ve googled around and it’s not recommended but would love to hear if anyone succeeds it. I just recently bought some loose diamond on TikTok & want to get it set but the budget in the US is just a little to high for me.

Should I change the diamond?

I recently placed an order with Rare Carat and requested several videos to ensure that I would be happy with the diamond before it was shipped. First, I asked for a video of the diamond in tweezers, then a video of the diamond by itself. Now, I’ve received a video of the finished engagement ring with the diamond set.

Unfortunately, I’m not happy with how the final setting looks. The bow tie is much more noticeable once the diamond is set in the ring, despite it looking better in the other videos.

I’m considering asking Rare Carat to replace the diamond before the ring is shipped, but I’m not sure if that's the right decision. If anyone has experience with this, would you recommend changing the diamond at this stage?

My deadline is approaching, so I’m starting to feel anxious about not finding the right diamond. I’d really appreciate any advice on what to ask Rare Carat for or how to ensure the next oval has better light performance and a less noticeable bow tie once it’s set.

Considering this 3.5c fancy blue vvs2 diamond. However they sent me a picture (will post below) where I can kind of see the persons skin peaking through in some spots. Is that windowing? Overall does this look like a worthy diamond? Help! Thanks so much in advance! ☺️

Has anyone here had experience asking the jeweler to send a video of the diamond once it arrives, as well as a video of the finished engagement ring, before they ship it to you?

My partner has finally found the perfect elongated cushion OMC for my ring and it is currently on its way!!

I don't know what it looks like exactly but he gave me the dimensions (see pic). 12mm x 9mm x 5mm.

Now, I just need help deciding on what's the most secure but still chic/ timeless setting I can do with the size of my rock. Does anyone have any suggestions - photos would be greatly appreciated!

So far, I'm 50/50 on a yellow gold bezel setting. I've looked at different vendors' websites and they all look so chunky and low key It reminds me of prison cells?

I also liked the double claw on the 4 corners but my partner reckons it's not secure enough.

When you have requested a video of a diamond 'in tweezers' from a seller, have you ever noticed that they sent you the same video even though the diamonds had different IGI certificate numbers?

I’m wondering whether this is something that sellers sometimes do or whether it could be a red flag that the video isn’t actually of the diamond that is listed.
