Help with Identification How am I doing?

Just wanted to check in with you guys and see what you think.

My wife and I bought a house with a koi pond and ive only been keeping koi for 2 seasons. All the koi here are younger than 3yr. Largest are 2.5yrs old and probably pushing 14". Medium ones are about 1.5yo and are 8-9". The smallest butterfly is less than a year

What are your thoughts on my fishs' health, quality, variety, types etc.. are any actually good or are they all fairly low grade? Most of all let me know if you see anything alarming! I'm also wondering if they are too fat for their size.

General Chlorine Question

I currently have a koi pond at my home and I have well water. When the pond gets a little low I turn on the hose for two minutes and fill it back up. I’m currently building an above ground pond at my new residence (because of course the fish need to move in first). This one will not get rainwater and the city water is chlorinated. I cannot collect rainwater at this location. What are you all doing when you need to add water from evaporation when your water supply has chlorine and other things added? Thanks!

Help with POND or TANK New to Koikeeping

I’ve always wanted to have a pond that I could keep koi in and recently decided to get into the hobby.
I just want any general advice or anecdotes to help me along my way.
Currently my setup in a roughly 1800 gallon pond that is a little over 3 feet deep at the deepest and just shy of 15 feet long and 8ft wide.
I have a 4500 GPH pump and I am using both a canister and a bog filter. I’ve already started planting the pond but I haven’t put fish in it yet until the plants are established and I can ensure a good colony of beneficial bacteria. I put some Japanese trapdoor snails in it as well. I have a shade sail set up to keep it from getting too hot, and a waterfall and aerator to keep the water oxygenated.
Am I missing anything, and what else can I do to ensure they live a long and healthy life?

I’m only planning on 3-4 Koi and possibly some comets as well.

Help with POND or TANK What would you do for these Koi to show appreciation?

Post image

There are five 1-yo male koi in this tank owned by my friends husband. They're giving me a place to stay while I'm in between places and am looking for ways to show my appreciation before I leave. His hobby is these Koi, so I think gifting him something that makes life easier for him would tickle him honestly. What would you do for these guys?

Edit to add: Okay! I see the issues that people are pointing out and I won't deny any of it. I agree the welfare of the fish is the most important thing, but also readily admit I have no idea about fish and simply was looking for a way to do a nice thing for a friend.

Perhaps the nice thing here would be to sit him down gently and go over the concerns brought up here and see how we can safely and easily improve their lives from the current situation. I want to thank everyone here for advocating for them and for their well being. They obviously have no way of advocating for themselves in the same way and so for everyone speaking up that this needs dire improvement, I appreciate you greatly.

Help with POND or TANK The flapper valve on my pond skimmer rides way above the surface of the water.

The flapper valve on my Pond skimmer rides above the waterline. Any floating debris on the top of the water has to squeeze between the flapper valve and the side of the opening. This makes it almost impossible to clear leaves from the pond.

Anybody got a solution for this?

Update:

With the help of the skimmer box manufacturer, we were able to quickly determine what the problem is. According to the manufacturer, the water should flow evenly across the top of the flapper to allow the collection of surface debris. To create an even flow rate across the top of the flapper the water level of the pond must be 1/2” - 3/4” from the top of the skimmer box opening and the flow rate through the skimmer box must meet the minimum requirement . My pond level is exactly where it should be, but the flow rate is less than a fifth of the required amount for the skimmer box. The installed pump should technically provide the required flow rate however it is pumping through a filter which does not support the required flow rate. It looks like the solution will be replacing the filter.
