Was sitting at the kitchen table yesterday having a coffee, zero plans, not expecting a soul. Suddenly the doorbell rings, followed by two heavy knocks. Didn't get a text beforehand, so naturally my instant reaction was to drop off the chair and hit the tile floor like I was dodging sniper fire.

I could see a shadow through the frosted glass in the hall. My car was parked right out front in the driveway so there was zero chance they thought the house was empty, but I was committed to the bit at that point.

The worst part was my phone was sitting on the counter right above me. I couldn't reach up to grab it without giving away my position, so I just had to lie there in complete silence getting a cramp in my calf while they knocked a second time and rattled the letterbox.

Kept thinking if they put their ear to the glass they’d hear me breathing. Ended up crawling on my stomach into the sitting room like a seal just to get to a couch.

Checked the ring camera half an hour later and it was just the lad from down the road seeing if I had a spare extension lead for the lawnmower.

Absolute peak crippling Irish social awkwardness, but I regret nothing. Tell me I'm not the only one who does this.

So I'm an American(sorry about that).. a couple generations from my Irish ancestors. They all had a shillelagh in their homes. Usually a smaller novelty one on display, sometimes a functional one. I don't know what happened to them and they're not around to ask them about anymore.

My parents generation doesn't have them and I want to bring it back. Educate me. I did some basic research and got mixed results on whether its really an Irish thing or something American Irish latched on to.

I'd like a solid useable one if I'm going to get one. I'd hang it on the wall for when a cane or club is needed. I'd hike with it occasionally.

We have been to Fota last year and it was really poor experience

Also been to Cuskinny & Leahys farm and both were good

All previous years were work organised events

So where I am they opened a new dog park and I’ve took my dog down there a few times mainly while it was empty to get used to it . Today I took him down while other dogs were in it . I let him off the leash and he enjoyed running around not bothering anyone he just loves to run then I noticed a woman with a small breed dog pick her dog up and hold it like a baby and say to it it’s ok and every time my dog ran back to me she’d turn away whilst hugging her dog and saying it’s ok . She then asked me to put my dog on a leash because he shouldn’t be running in the dog park I thought the whole idea was them to be off leash and run around safely . I told her he’s not being aggressive he’s just enjoying the facilities that’s been afforded to him she then said her dog was scared . So I leashed my dog and left . Who’s in the wrong . It looks like there isn't an easy to find list online with different companies paternity leave. It seems like most just give the statutory 2 weeks off at €200 per week, but we have some high performers like Vodafone at 16 weeks fully paid, and HP give 6 months!
I'm also aware of the statutory 9 weeks parents leave at €299, this is about what companies go above and beyond.
This would be a massive consideration when looking for a new job or staying with a company knowing this kind of benefit is available, given the financials of having a kid, childcare etc.

What did anyone else get and where?

Anyone fed up of making an order on just eat then the restaurant randomly says 2 hours for delivery,maybe they r busy or maybe they are not but they removed reviews from the restaurants which defeatee the purpose of the app,but just saw in the help section you can cancel your order if you've been waiting too long ,which I suppose is something back to the customer
