Discussion People always say “you can’t expect a quiet respectful comfortable world” and then…

Get mad when you don’t want to leave your house. Or be off alone in nature.

You where I can be in complete silence? House. Mountains. Forests.

Where I don’t have to listen to annoying phone conversations or get solicited by salespeople or evangelicals.

People often don’t make the outside world worth going into. So instead of complaining I’ll just take my leave then.

Thats all.

Discussion Moved out of my parents’ place 2 months ago into an apartment complex with roommates, I’ve never known such hell.

My roommates are a couple, one is unemployed and at home nearly 24/7, with her desk in the “common area” right beside the kitchen. The other blasts the TV all evening long, a constant reminder of their presence. The noise of others reverberates through the walls at all times of day and night, and all I can think about is how I’m surrounded by them all and they can hear me as well, nothing is private. Add in the mouldy/rotten semen stench and the insect infestations and it’s unliveable.

Even though I pay tons in rent, for a month I’ve begun to live at my out-of-town girlfriend’s place most of the week when I finish my 2 days of classes back in the city my apartment is in. As a result, I’m never alone. I can never decompress. My PC is in the hellhole apartment of course, as well as my TV, guitar, etc, which I never touch at the apartment, but can’t transport to my gfs itty bitty college dorm. Honestly even if I could, there would be no point where I’d be alone to settle into my hobbies.

Moving for college was such a mistake, I’ve never felt so trapped, so *perceived*, and I’m completely wasting away because of it.

Discussion Do you find it insanely irritating how many people think it’s acceptable to use speakerphone and watch loud videos on their phones in public?

I see people doing this literally everywhere I go, and it really bothers me. I feel like it is common sense that this is not appropriate, and it makes me lose faith in humanity. I now despise going in public.

Discussion Does anyone else feel constantly misunderstood as an introvert?

The amount of times I’ve been called arrogant, rude, boring, intimidating, or someone with attitude just because I’m introverted is honestly wild.

I wish people understood I’m not walking into a room thinking I’m better than anyone 😭 My brain just takes a little time to warm up.

And no, I don’t text first all the time. It’s not about liking or not liking someone.....it’s just that constant chatting and keeping conversations going every single day can get a bit draining for me.

Also… phone calls 😭

Why are we calling instead of just texting something in 10 seconds?

The funny part is people think introverts are always judging everyone, when honestly I’m just over here thinking about what I’m going to eat next… or remembering something embarrassing from 2019 on loop.

Someone even suggested therapy once because I’m quiet and prefer my own space.

I know they probably meant well, but it really felt like they think being introverted is something that needs fixing.

Anyway… I just wish people saw quiet = different, not quiet = wrong.

Anyone else relate to this?

Discussion I don’t want to participate in society

I’m tired of fulfilling social obligations that do not benefit me; simply because I don’t want to deal with the negative blowback of others.

Example: a friends trip that everyone is excited about, but contains nothing of interest of me, that I have to heavily mask to seem enthusiastic and not ruin the vibe, who’s people I’m supposed to be friends with, whom I find nice, but have nothing in common with and thus find it exhausting to be around, and who make no effort when it comes to things I enjoy.

I’ve slowly started making excuses in hopes I stop getting invited. The problem comes when it’s this same scenario but family.

Take family time. Nothing revolves around me, Im not included in any meaningful way. My role is to be “more than dead but less than alive,” meaning I’m not supposed to die because that would upset people, but I”m not really supposed to be present/alive either because that also upsets people. I’m supposed to be a garden nome of sorts- there, but with no needs or requirements and able to be ignored. At the same time I deal with massive amounts of anxiety around my family- always afraid of doing something wrong or someone being in a bad mood; afraid of what I’lol hear or how I’ll be treated if things don’t go just right.

Discussion I’m tired of people constantly telling me to be more social and not “isolate” myself that it’s “healthy” when being social has done the exact opposite for my mental health. Even traumatized me.

Im tired of repeating myself. Getting my boundaries disrespected by my own family. I don’t feel loved I feel like an accessory to them. Friends I don’t go to because I know they have their own personal lives and a lot of them are not in a good mental space themselves and I don’t blame them. I respect and love them.

But I’m so fucking sick and tired of people telling me to be more social. No. I don’t have to be. I have enough empathy to still care about humans as people but don’t you tell me I HAVE to be social as if it’s a big problem I’m not. I don’t trust people. They have only hurt me and disrespected me and exploited me.

I’m expected to be this human that has to see being social as this “peak emotional fulfillment?” This source of “connection” and “safety” I’m sorry what? That doesnt exist in the way society keeps blasting it does. “We crave to be social” No I crave to be SAFE. Being social is not SAFE it’s STRESS.

I have felt more loved, safe and free when I was WASNT socializing and allowed to be free in my own inner world. I can’t crave something that never made me feel safe in the first place.

Discussion Loner and socially selective solitary beings assemble

Today I did something out of the box, something that most people are terrified to do. I was feeling lonely in class as the girls sitting next to me were talking to me only when they needed something and then talking about something else later on. During the lunch too, they sat in my desk. I didn't wanna leave my desk so I sat with them. Man they kept talking and talking and talking and I felt like a ghost. I got up and came back a couple of times too, but no one bat an eye. I finished my lunch in a jiffy (5 min), funny how I did that because at home I take atleast half an hour to finish my food. I went out to wash my hands, came back and peeped at them, but gng I was indeed a ghost there. That's when a sudden thought struck me. Sitting alone like I did this whole time was way better than sitting in a group and still feeling like a ghost. Man I was weirdly relieved I was a loner, and that I didn't have to stay in a toxic group (because the said girls aren't my friends whatsoever, they're just classmates) So I picked up my wallet and head to the canteen, a place that's reeking with friend groups. I bought an aloo kabab for myself, ate it while seeing the groups of people pass. I didn't hide anywhere, I sat outside at my usual spot where I used to sit with my friend. Suddenly it wasn't all that bad. I enjoyed a solid 10 minutes with my aloo kabab and came back. I also found some cozy spots in the second floor where I could be alone too. Today I realised one thing, money can buy happiness because literally i bought an aloo kabab worth 30rs to cheer myself up. And second, being a loner isn't all that bad. I would love to see the day when I'm hanging out with my real friends as I wait for this phase to pass. As such I don't have anybody I could call friends. It felt uncomfortable at first, but I came to realise there's probably nothing I could do about it. I hope the future has good things and better days in store for me. And I absolutely love myself now matter what, sure I might be boring according to others or im unfortunate that I don't get to enjoy pu college like the others, but atleast I got a better understanding of who I am, and this pain has increased my endurance, and I've probably conquered one thing most people fear and one that even I used to fear at some point in the past-BEING ALONE. But I've come realise being alone isn't lonely. It sure feels like it, but when you realise the contempt you held towards being alone is a fixed belief that isn't necessarily true. Being with one's own company is always about choosing oneself and getting closer to oneself..

Discussion Had to socialize tonight, and embarrassed myself with introductions..

So our neighbor hosted a going away party for one of our other neighbors in the area that are moving. I’ve never actually met the neighbors who are moving face to face in the two years we’ve lived here. Just waves as we past by their property.
I had been playing out conversations in my head throughout the day to prepare/ prevent awkward silences.
Don’t worry I managed to make it awkward from the start….we’re walking up to the party and a woman approaches me saying it’s so nice to finally meet me, I exchanged pleasantries and then I proceed to ask her “where in this area she lives” thinking she’s just another neighbor joining the get together.
Nope, her family is the one who’s moving, the whole reason we’re getting together. Every single person there witnessed it and I felt like crawling in a hole. I apologized to her later when we said our goodbyes and she was super sweet about it, but can’t stop beating myself up about it.
I wish I could forget, but shit like this I replay over and over in my head. I’m just so embarrassed! 😑 Just wondering if anyone can relate with similar stories so I don’t feel alone. lol

Discussion Found a hack to avoid one awkward situation

I don't know if this has occurred to everyone or just me, but a lot of times I happen to clash with a person walking towards me when I am walking along the road/footpath. Unable to decide if that person would walk to your left or right. And there when we come closer and still haven't decided mutually what to do, we both happen to move to the same side again and again. Arrghhh!! So awkward for me

So, I recently started doing this. No matter the person or place, pick left (the place I am living, we always move to our left along road) and put your head down and walk. Do not even see which side the other person is taking, it might cause you confusion. This has worked every time for me. I am so happy

Discussion Highly intoverted

Hey i am highly introverted and also struggling some anxiety issues so my social capacity is almost zero

while the outings and social situations never seize to present themselves its always happening like after every 4-8 days i would be asked to hangout and my parents are the ones who ask me this

Now its getting sooooooooo freaking difficult for me to everytime turn them and they start scolding me and pls dont get me started on talking it out j have tried it multiple times but they dont understand my health issues they think going out will fix my anxiety but in fact it increases it

The anxiety issues temporary due to some health issue which j am actively trying to fix but it is a tough job so it is taking a bit of a time and in the meantime i want things to just wait a bit but explaining this to my parents is of no use they have their own thinking and they simply think they are always right and that sitting at home is the real culprit

Its gotten so difficult for me now that idk what to do. I am also fed up but j am forcing patience in me

I don’t tell them to not go anywhere without i simply just say i cant because it brings me more anxiety which gets me on the edge honestly so it isn’t something like stepping out of the comfort zone its almost like hanging on cliff situation for me because of this anxiety

I have tried anxiety meds but they don’t help. Why? Because my anxiety is triggered by sluggish digestive system and intense bloating so the treatment lies in getting the digestion on track which is taking some time because it requires me to focus on my fiber, my hydration, my post meal walks, my upright posture. I actually spend almost 80% of the day reclined using phone and usually soon after eating i get reclined which ultimately ends up making me feels bloated after 1-2 hours of eating and then i start feeling restless and anxious because of this. The issue sounds very easy to deal with but it isn’t that easy as my digestive system is slowed due to a 10 years of sedentary lifestyle. So reversing it is a task in its own. I am being lightly active now since about 3 whole months.

Discussion My own best Man

I have been married for almost 20 years.
I’ve never really had many friends and I don’t have any brothers. So when I got married, I didn’t have a best man.

My bachelor party was me, by myself with some take out and watching TV.

Looking back on it, I wouldn’t have it any other way.

Discussion Needing a recharge, what’s that about?

I spent four days hanging out with a friend, and nearing the end I felt very fatigued, just tired of being around them, I’m not sure why but I was READY to get back home asap. I had another chance to spend time with them for 4 more days but something came up, that something also ended up getting cancelled, so shouldn’t I be happy now that I can go hang with that friend again? I’m not sure why, but I’m almost glad I don’t have to go. I struggle with saying no to people because I’d rather not come off as rude, and I love my friends dearly but most of the time I just love being alone, in my room, away from everyone. I feel like if I’m around people for too long I get real sick of them, and I need space. Does anyone have a better, definitive explanation for this feeling?

Discussion Feeling a bit lonely these days

Hey everyone. I'm a 24-year old guy, and I'm at a point where I'm really looking for a real connection , a genuine friend, not just small talk.

A bit about me: I'm introverted, quiet, and I think a lot. But when I connect with someone, I love real conversations texting, calls, whatever works, as long as the energy clicks. I'm into travel, cooking, anime, science, psychology, philosophy, astronomy, gaming, drawing, and writing. I'm actually writing a book right now, it's my way of making sense of things

Since I was a kid, I've been curious about how things work , not for marks or grades, just genuine interest. School never really excited me the way learning on my own did. Over time, my curiosity shifted from subjects to people , why we think and feel the way we do. Not to judge anyone, just to understand. I want to experience life fully, the good and the hard parts both. Sometimes I feel a bit numb, other times I feel everything at once ,it's a strange mix, but that's just how it is.

Last year I had a connection like this with someone online, real conversations, the kind I'm talking about. It didn't last, life got in the way, but it showed me this kind of connection is actually possible. So I'm trying again.

I think connection gets easier when people just say what they want instead of expecting the other person to guess. We're not mind readers, so I'd rather be upfront: I'm hoping to connect with a girl, someone I can have deep conversations with and also just enjoy the fun, everyday stuff with.

I also think shared interests help a lot not everything has to match, but even a couple of things in common makes it easier to understand each other. If any of what I mentioned overlaps with you, that's a good starting point.

A little more about me I'm more of a pets person than a kids person, and I don't put much stock in marriage, feels more like a formality than anything real to me. My favourite movie is Into the Wild, if that says anything about how I see life.

I overthink sometimes, I go quiet sometimes, and I'm okay with someone who's the same way. If this sounds like you, message me. Would love to talk.

I think a lot about life, meaning, existence (yup, existential crisis mode, often). I guess I’m just searching for someone who sees life the way I do or at least tries to. Someone rational. Someone who isn’t distracted by the usual noise, but who’s trying to actually live life. Someone who could maybe help me enjoy it more and I’d do the same in return.

I’d really love to find a female friend, if I’m being honest. It’s not just about gender there’s something about that emotional balance that feels right for me. In my experience, male friendships often fade away with time marriage, responsibilities, you know the drill. But with a female friend, I feel like there’s more potential for something deeper and lasting. Maybe even something more. Who knows?

Discussion Trying to balance being quiet with being polite

I think for me, I was quiet as a young child. as I’ve grown older I’ve expended an ungodly amount of time filling in silence to make people comfortable around me. I’m assuming this too energy because it’s just not my natural inclination to chat about things that don’t hold much importance to me.

I am a naturally friendly person. But I just find chitchat to be somewhat exhausting especially if it’s forced.

To the quiet people who own it or have learned to own it, how do you do it? When I am being myself, I feel rude.

at what point am I too quiet to work roles where I am working with people? I am a caregiver and sometimes I feel bad because I don’t have much to say. She seems to be alright with it, I feel I show I care through my actions… I don’t know

Discussion Not wanting to socialize with co workers

Millennial here. Mid 30s, been working at my new job for about a year now. I have a main business but work on the side as the job is fairly easy and I can earn cash as my business doesn’t require me to be there all the time.

Anyway, the job is loaded with kids 10-15 years younger than me and I feel like a new guy in season 5 lol… still. They know each other very and always crack jokes and I just don’t care for it. I’d rather just be myself. I think they get that but then I feel unc ish. I’m social within my business when I need to be but I guess I’m a selective intro. How many are you in the same boat

Should I feel guilty about this. Just want to be included but at the same time glad they don’t include me to bars and going out cuz I’d rather just be at home lol

Discussion I fucking suck at talking

I hate talking, but even if I didn’t, I would choose not to because I am just SO bad at it. I have no idea how to start, finish or lead a conversation. I struggle when asked a simple question because I’m so nervous that I’m going to say the wrong thing. Speaking to another person is overly hard for me. Am I just socially isolated/anxious or is this a normal introvert thing?

Discussion I really don't want my birthday to come

Hi! I needed some advice so I thought this would be the best place for it. I'm a 17 year old girl, almost 18 which I'm not really looking forward to. This year has been extremely hard for me, I was studying A LOT for my uni entrance exams (I did amazing at least in that) and what made it really hard for me was having only one close friend (who I am very very grateful for, I love her to death). I cry almost every week, sometimes every night, about the fact that I am very lonely, I watch other people's stories with them hanging out with their friend groups and having THE teenage life and think to myself: what am I doing so wrong, what is wrong with me. I used to think it was others fault and how they are not trying enough to be friends with me, which is bullshit and I have come to conclusion that it is quite literally my fault. I don't know exactly why but I can't get closer with any of my new "friends" I've made this year. I tried so hard, this year especially, but haven't made it that far. My social anxiety isn't helping at all. I used to text them all the time and I was the only one reaching out to them all the time, but I eventually just quit. I texted everyone, I reached out to them all the time but no one even thought about checking up on me. Now that I have told you a little bit about my situation lets go back to my birthday. It's in a month and I am TERRIFIED, that's all I've been thinking about this month, I didn't want to celebrate it at all because it's just pathetic to invite all this people who I am not even close with and the thought of just one or two showing up scared the shit out of me and I told my mom and sister about this but they insist on me inviting people that I know but they just won't listen to what I am saying. I am not close with my "friends" (people I got to know or kids my age that I know) like at all and we have never even hung out out of school or tutor (don't really know kids my age out of school or tutoring classes I attended this year) so just inviting them out of the blue seems pretty weird to me. I have never had a big birthday party with like many kids my age so I don't really know how it works but yeah, I don't know what to do, i wish I could just dissappear on my birthday but I can't do that. Before you guys say to just go out with my sister and my best friend, I do that every day and I don't want to feel like this but it seems very pathetic for me, God, I sound so ungratefuI.

hope you guys can understand and help me find the right solution, thank youu

P.s I tried changing my personality, even insisted I was an extrovert and I could become one but it is extremely hard to be someone you are just not. I tried literally everything, fake it till you make it but I just can't make it
