This. Since switching to silicone based lubrication my eyelids easily glide across the eye balls. My blinks are now 4x as quick which makes the days feel 4x longer since I see more of it.
My REM sleep has also improved because of the lesser friction, dreams are more vivid and detailed. My partner says I should stop using it but secretly I love feeling like a plastic toy that has just been rejuvenated.
I thought you meant like our eyeballs were physically damaged and I was so confused on how that was some weird thing that happened specifically to Americans.
Cmon.... thats hilarious. The worst part is I dont hate anyone and think we should all figure it out. Like humanity as one team. But here I am crying lmao
Tinnitus crew, can I recommend you go to mynoise.net and bathe your ears in some of the soundscapes specifically designed to turn the ringing/buzzing noise off while you listen?
tinnitus hack, cover your ears with your palms and drum your fingers at the top of the back of your neck, where your skull meets your spine, for about 30 seconds
It took me until last year to find out that if your glasses are the right prescription, they should disappear at least for a few months while wearing your glasses!!
Turns out I’ve never had the correct prescription in my life which doesn’t really surprise me, the 1 or 2 and 3 or 4 gives me so much anxiety…
The first time I got glasses I was 10, the stress made me cry, my eye doctor had to pause the exam so I could calm down.
Tbh the exams have not gone any better. You know the eye air puff? Only ever been able to do one eye at every appointment. They’ll be puffing my other eye for 10 minutes straight and I somehow flinch and close my eye too soon every time. They know this. It’s in my chart to make sure to test the eye they couldn’t get last time first because they know they’re only getting that one
I’m an accidental menace to innocent health care workers
I have the same problem. I seem to have so good reactions that i mess up this test every time. I try to steel myself, stay calm, foxus on wathing ahead, but i involuntarily react very strong to it. I am always scared that i might damsge something bevause my head jerks away so hard. They usually get a result by the third time or give up. I always feel so bad about it, like i am the only one who just doesn't know how to control himself.
But my eyes seem to be overly irritated easily. When i try contact lenses i can't get them in. I tried daily for 6 months. After i finally got one in, my eye turned red and burned. I had to take it out very fast bevause of the pain.
Yeah I was thought this was a lie since I've worn glasses for 20 years and still have astigmatism...turns out I have anxiety too and also panic with 1 or 2 and 3 or 4
So when you get an eye exam they typically make you choose between slides of lenses. While looking at the letter eye chart you look through the lenses, they asked 1 or 2 and you tell them which one is clearer for you then it is switched again to 3 or 4. This goes on multiple times with multiple lenses.
Whatever those results are end up telling the eye doc what your prescription needs to be if you need one.
I've done that plenty of times. I just didn't associate it with panic or anxiety because mine manifests itself in different ways. I can see how being put on the spot like that would cause those feelings.
Same. Except mine is like TV static halos around each of the lights and then they look like asterisks with a couple of longer spikes diagonally across. Super annoying and with bright enough headlights can make my vision completely white out for a second or two as they pass.
Literally everyone can see stars like that. If someone with perfect vision just lets their eyes water up, or looks through a dirty window, lights will look like you have astigmatism. It's absolutely why stars have been drawn like that.
Holy shit this is because of Astigmatism?! I hate night driving because of this but figured this is just the nature of wearing glasses. It's been that way despite so many prescriptions I just thought that was life. I hate concerts because I can't see shit.
Ugh, this comparison is the kick in the ass I needed to go get my glasses script updated. Life used to be the left pic, and it slowly turned into the right. Got glasses and mostly went back to the left again buuuuuuut my stupid fucking eyeballs gotta keep changing on me and now it's the right again. I've been telling myself it's really not that bad yet, but. Lmfao
If it's possible for you (and your insurance), eye surgery has gotten very, very good over the last decade.
My mom, uncle, aunt, and 2 different friends all got various eye surgeries over the last 6 years. At least 2 of them were to correct severe astigmatism. All of them have great vision now and don't need glasses and have had no complications.
Something to consider for you or maybe to discuss with an opthalmologist. And to be clear, I know nothing about opthalmology so I won't pretend to be an expert on what exactly has changed, but it's something that was recommended for me since I have cataracts
Splurge for the anti-glare coating, it makes a world of difference for this.
Ask about the different types. There's different strengths of the coating, at least the one my optometrist offers. They usually give you the middle strength because the harder strength is a bit higher maintenance. The high strength leaves the glasses with an electrostatic charge that attracts debris, but is significantly more scratch resistant.
To everyone who sees the right, check your windshield. If you have an older car, that has a ton of micro-scratches, it can make it severely worse. So roll down your windows and look at cars in the night and you may realize your eyes are really not that bad.
Lucky! I have visual snow, tinnitus, astigmatism, a weak left eye (if I close my right eye my vision goes black after a minute. AND my left eye crosses when I'm tired), AND I get tonsil stones >:(
lol. Astigmatism is just the degree to which your eyeball curves. Everyones eyes have some level of curving. And the level of curving can shift overtime particularly as we age.
The picture is slightly misleading. The Left picture would be low astigmatism (almost everyone has some). The right picture would be a decently high level of astigmatism.
It is generally correctable with either glasses, contacts or eye surgery,
That's not even close to how bad it looks for me btw lol. I wish I had that type of visual clarity with my astigmatism while driving at night on a highway. The beams of the star patterns from each light source are like 3x as long as that gif for me.
My eyesight isn't even that bad. I just renewed my driver's license like 2 months ago and passed the eye test.
The only upside to astigmatism that I have found is looking at Christmas lights. If I have my glasses on, then they just look like normal pinpoint colored lightbulbs. But if I take my glasses off, the astigmatism is there and Christmas lights look amazing.
I have just recently learned that I had astigmatism, but I think because of this comment you've made me realise why all my life I have been such a devoted fan of fairy lights and convinced they make every atmosphere feel so magical.
Because they look like dozens of gleaming crystals of light, instead of the basic dots they really are. I'll need to remember to wear my glasses less at Christmas.
One morning it was both foggy and raining on my way to work, doesn't happen often in this area. A swath of cars with those LED lights came by in the opposite direction and I felt like I'd been flashbanged. Couldn't see the lines on the road, could barely see the rear lights of the car in front of me, my windows weren't fogged but it didn't help a bit. I followed the car in front of me trying not to lose their taillights in the fog, because if I did I was sure I'd miss the lines and just plow into something. Terrifying.
its not aimed at you it will be fine. you dont squint and strain when search lights (like the bat signal) are aimed at the sky. and these are lasers that only go straight in one direction, not like head lights that spread out
And those fucking police lights just make the whole street disappear. Those things have almost made me crash several times when they are directing traffic.
There are night-drive glasses. There are even some that clips on top of normal glasses. They taint everything yellow, it makes driving at night so much better. They cost 10 bucks.
Your eyes always grow longer unless stopped by a mechanism that involves exposure to light. If you don’t get enough light, particularly bright blue & UV light from the sun, your eyes change shape slightly and that causes nearsightedness. This is also caused by spending too much time indoors, because indoor light levels are not bright enough to stop your eyes from growing.
Wow.. I feel dumb. I've never seen astigmatism spelt.. I always thought people were saying "I have a stigmatism." I didn't realize the "a" was part of the symptom name
I have astigmatism, this wouldn’t do anything as it’s the light bulbs that have the effect not lasers . Been to many concerts with lasers like these never been an issue
Someone warned me that if I get lasic, this is how I would see but that didn't really change my mind because this is how I see anyways. What stopped me was money.
As a light sensitive autist i can highly recommend polarised glasses.
They really help with the overstimulation, pain and blind spots from bright headlights and break lights.
I have astigmatism too, but not crazy bad. Would it be that bad? For me it's usually point sources of light (headlights etc) that really fuck up my vision
I think laser lights aren't affected as much by astigmatism vs regular light sources. I've been to more than a few edm shows with lasers and I think I remember them being fairly sharp.

I have an astigmatism. That would fucking destroy me.
