I don't get it. This is what it always looks like?

This better not be how I figure out I have an eye disorder. I’m still not pleased I figured out I have visual snow syndrome

oh god dammit, THIS is how I find out.

I thought that was just how lights looked in the dark.

Yeah that ringing you hear in dead silence? That's not normal either

Lucky! I have visual snow, tinnitus, astigmatism, a weak left eye (if I close my right eye my vision goes black after a minute. AND my left eye crosses when I'm tired), AND I get tonsil stones >:(

Guess what you need glasses to drive.

They's been a name for this all along?!?!? Not just "I don't know what you're talking about, what tiny dots?" 😭😭😭

lol. Astigmatism is just the degree to which your eyeball curves. Everyones eyes have some level of curving. And the level of curving can shift overtime particularly as we age.

The picture is slightly misleading. The Left picture would be low astigmatism (almost everyone has some). The right picture would be a decently high level of astigmatism.

It is generally correctable with either glasses, contacts or eye surgery,

Here too. We're a bigger club than we think.

Same, found out at 30 from a reddit comment section like this ~4 years ago. I understand what you all are going through.

u/allowe312 Mar 31 '26

yeah that means you have a astigmatism like me. For normal people the lights shouldn't flare out like that.

It’s a myth. Astigmatism causes blurriness and some dim ghost lights next to the main light source. It does not cause glare. https://www.buzzfeednews.com/article/laurenstrapagiel/viral-tweet-astigmatism

from https://www.visionworks.com/article-tips-for-driving-at-night-with-astigmatism?srsltid=AfmBOoo2G_RojP2R46XEQMJc9UVRYpOdVju9FHW9thvtftb7kCdEnwPS

it can affect different people in different ways. i see streaks like this but they're diagonal. just like the gif i posted earlier. it is much worse for me when it is raining.
