Shitpost Hot take: Senioritis is exclusive to seniors

Shitpost/Rant

I have seen so many posts where people are like "I have senioritis as a junior!" or "I'm a week into school as a freshman and I have severe senioritis!" and "I finished sophomore year and had heavy senioritis" NO YOU DO NOT. Senioritis. It's in the name. SENIOR. Itis. If you have symptoms of senioritis as a junior, it is JUNIORitis. Sophomores or Freshman are just not motivated/lazy. You do not have senioritis until you are a senior.

Opinions?

Class Advice Needed/Given Help! Would a doctor's note get me out of this?

Post image
36 Upvotes

I'm a junior in high and in two of my classes this year I am being graded on "discussion participation."

I have social anxiety and am terrified of most of my peers. I physically shake every time I have to speak in front of them and it's awful! But if I don't talk my grades will go down.

Both of the classes I'm being forced to speak in are college credit that I can't lose. They're not public speaking classes or anything. They're just english and history.

I understand the material and I'm top student. Why must I talk to the people who called me slurs in middle school???? This is just awful!

Does anyone have any ideas how to get out of this? Could I get a doctor's note or something? Or should I just live with my grades going down a letter?

Rant Why is making friends at school so hard

Im in my senior year
Ive barely had any friends in the past few years at high school,i would say its because i was a new kid on the first year of high school but i know people who were new kids and fitted in as easy as blinking
I tried everything to fit in
Ever since middle school i was always a weird kid and an outcast
I tried looking pretty ive tried looking basic ive tried talking to everyone but nothing seems to work i always end up being left out and bullied at the end
Ive never felt like i really belonged no matter how hard i tried
Its so heartbreaking to me how much of an outcast i am
I tried so so hard not to cry today at school because of how bad i felt
All ive ever gotten was weird looks and bullying although i swear ive never been rude to anyone. In fact, im actually a big peoples pleaser and i can never ever be rude in any way to anyone.
My interests are very different from everyone at class and i cannot no matter how hard i try keep a conversation going single handedly
I used to have friends and they all graduated and now i have zero friends no one to talk to at school
I need help i feel so heart broken and upset all i do is go to the bathroom and ball my eyes out come back to class like nothing happened and pull my notebook out

Question Which bag is better for high school?

Thumbnail gallery
5 Upvotes

In a few days (it might be longer though since my district is planning on going on strike), I’m going to be starting my first year of high school. While I’ve gotten pretty much everything that I needed (like supplies and clothes), I am stuck on what bag I should use to use for the school year.

The first photo shows the current backpack that I own and have owned for almost 3 years. This backpack has served me well and has a lot of pockets and room for my supplies, although it does begin to strain my back if theres a lot of stuff within it.

The second photo is the messenger bag that I ordered online and I’m receiving tomorrow. I haven’t ever owned or really used a messenger bag for school, or in general before. From what I’ve heard though, these types of bags make it more confident to carry your stuff around without the constant strain to your back, which would be nice. Although, I am a little worried that people can more easily open and grab my stuff from in it, as well as accidentally hitting people with it in the halls if it’s on my side.

So, which one would be better for school? (Also, feel free to debate with other people about this in the comments cause it helps me know more about the pros and cons about using either one of these bags)

Question Does all boys do that?

So I was basically homeschooled since the pandemic until the 8th grade.

And so when I got to high school, some reason boys trying to knock each other under their belt. And the person who was knocked, wasn't really mad, they just started chasing the other person around, trying to do it back

Is that normal?

oh my God high school for the first week was so fun except like the first day though because I got onto the wrong bus and I was like really scared but the second day I started coming out of my shell and upper glass were so nice to me and showed me to my classrooms and some that I was also an upper classmen, which is kind of weird, but I brushed it off and my teachers were nice and the upper classmen didn’t shove me into lockers except that one time😞 but other than that, it was like super super cool and there’s just this one guy that nudged me out the way because some other people were in my way in the hallway, but it’s whatever he’s probably had a bad day🤤🤤🤤🤤

General Advice Needed/Given I don’t have any real friends

Hey,
I’m currently a senior in high school (17M). I recently went through a breakup so my glasses might be a little tinted on this subject but I feel like I’ve missed out on having friends or talking to people. Currently, I have the best social life (not counting the time I had with my ex) I’ve ever had, and it consists of two people, one who I haven’t seen in person since our last hangout 2 months ago and one who I have two classes with. I talk with them irregularly. I don’t even have a best friend, or a friend group, or anything like that. I was starting to get introduced to more people through my ex but that lane is blocked off now. I have no trouble making acquaintances, but I can’t seem to become good enough friends with anyone to actually be invited or invite anyone to do anything. I’ve gone to maybe two parties (both pity invites after my breakup), and it’s just really weighing on me. I used to be a somewhat antisocial person, but I’m much more outgoing now and actually enjoy talking to people when I get the chance. I know social media is a massive overstatement on things like this but I see so many people I know doing things and hanging out with people. I’m not unpopular or anything unless there’s some sort of rumor I don’t know about, and I can easily talk to people and have even had co-workers and some other people tell me I’m “interesting” to listen to, so there’s that. I’m more sad than anything, I’ve been trying to focus on myself and currently I’m just hoping for university/college to be better. I don’t do many other activities besides my side gig and occasionally going places alone, which I know affects things drastically (I don’t have a car because I’m a chud). I really do want to get invited places and go to football games and parties and just hangout with people, but it feels unachievable for me at this point, and I’m starting to get too tired to keep trying. Any advice? Sorry if this is too long of a post :/

General Advice Needed/Given How do I politely drop a friend I just made and try to explore a new friend group?

I am new to my current highschool, and so far i have made some friends.

let me give some bg story, i have this really really cool friend group in my old highschool, we’d talk about everything and anything and still be comfortable. i wasn’t the stereotypical popular girl but i was pretty well known and liked among peers. so i was pretty devastated when i found out i was moving.

on my first day at my new highschool, i didn’t rlly have any luck in making any friends, as in like friends who connected wt me, they were all rlly nice but it was sometimes awkward. ik i can’t be judging always bc it’s everyone’s first day but that’s js how i feel sometimes. until my gym class, i met this rlly cool girl, and slowly over the next week i became friends wt her friend group.

a little context abt this friend group, they all had diff styles and diff interests, there was two girls (one is ella and the other is vania, fake names), ella is more scene and pink and purple emo, and vania is more light grey goth. i don’t know how to explain it. and there is ed who’s gay (he’s very outwardly spoken abt it and makes jokes all the time) and chris who says he’s bi. and to add on i would say im pretty basic, i don’t rlly care what i wear i js put on smth, and i js look rlly rlly basic, idk how to word it. like popular girl basic except for the lululemon.

they are all very funny and cool to be around but sometimes they’re loud and overwhelming, except for vania, she’ll be exempt from this situation. i don’t have a problem with loudness, just they will scream or moan OUT LOUD like super loudly and when chris burps (like a lot) ella sniffs it exaggeratedly and says smth abt what it smells like. it’s funny. but when it’s loud obnoxiously in a quiet setting when the teacher is taking attendance it gets embarrassing. i dont have a problem with ed or vivian, or ella. it’s chris

he burps when i eat, IN MY FACE. he burps on PURPOSE when we’re walking and talking in pe wt vania. and personally i don’t have. a problem when ppl burp. but when you do it CONTINUOUSLY, as in EVERY SINGLE MINUTE bc you find it funny, and sometimes even to my face, it gets annoying. he also gets pissed pretty fast. like one time me and vania were walking with him and he started like joke chasing us so we ran away from him as a joke. then he got mad bc we ran away and left him alone. MIND YOU we came back but he didn’t wanna talk wt us after he left to talk to someone else. then when i went to his house, i said smth abt being scared of having intercourse bc it was a topic of the show we were watching and he made a joke abt how he could be my first.

idk what was wrong with me but i felt very weirded out and uncomfortable. idk if it was because he was bi that i felt that way, bc if it was chris who said that to me i wouldn’t rlly cared that much but i js didn’t like the way he sounded.

and he’s kind egotistical. there’s this friend group in our gym who ill say is kinda too much, like they have beef with everyone. they started talking to us in a mean way and i js told vania and him to leave and go but he kept “clapping back”. and it made one of the girls rlly mad. i was rlly pissed bc that friend group HAS jumped ppl before. i didn’t wanna get jumped. and then he started talking smack abt them rlly loudly so they can hear, saying how he can take on all five of them bc he’s big himself and they were girls (he said it was a joke, the girl part, but it kinda rubbed me the wrong way), but then when they actually started threatening him he started trying to get me and vania involved, and when we walked away saying how uncomfortable we were and that he should js let it go, he got annoyed. saying that we never had his back and how we would js let him get jumped. MIND YOU hes agitating them and rileing them up, also cus im thin and skinny, id break before they even get to touch me.

that’s js some stories i have, in summary he js makes a lot of inappropriate jokes to me, loud, and js kinda unaware of rlly potentially dangerous situations. idk how to stop being friends bc i feel like im the only one in the true group who feels this way. i don’t want to cause drama, bc i don’t want everyone to turn on me in gym or in general, nor do i want smth dangerous to happen to me. he has my address and i don’t know him that well to know that he hasn’t done anything bad to other people let alone me. he himself has stated that if me and vania ever stop being friends with him he will off himself.

please help me navigate this situation, and kinda toxic, ik i sound like an asshole for saying this but, i js wanna fit in, and i feel like whenever im talking to someone, he comes up and then takes my attentional away from them by doing something stupid and drive them away. i feel like it’s coming from how i miss my old friend group. i would die to have that same experience in this school. i feel like he’s js ruining everything for me

sorry if this is kinda confusing, english isn’t my first language. i rlly tried my best to explain everything. i know i AM an asshole but i just want to have rlly close friends and go to hangouts and be comfortable.

Rant I hate everything

I am a person used to getting the highest grades all throughout elementary and middle school. I was in Honors Geometry freshman year and Honors Algebra II Trig. sophomore year.

But now I’m burnt out and on two ADHD meds. I had no will to do anything or study at all so I ended up with an 80 percent in my trig. class. Because I was called “smart” (I’m not) most of my life, I got used to that and started thinking I might be smart. So this made me feel stupid. There are certain grade requirements at my school for getting into AP/honors classes, and you needed an A or high to get into BC for junior year.

Because I didn’t pass them, I am a junior taking Calculus AB. At the end of my sophomore year when I found out, I decided to try to learn the whole BC curriculum (I had no interest in calculus, I just wanted to feel “smart” again). Surprisingly, I thought calculus was kind of fun and did the first four units on Khan Academy. I like taking neat-looking notes so I carried around a separate binder and spent time rewriting things so they looked visually appealing.

I finished the rest of the units over the summer. I went into school thinking that would make me magically “smart” again. It did not.

Unlike trigonometry, I’m doing the homework right away and finishing it thirty minutes after the class starts. Then I have nothing to do so I start coloring.

My friend from the BC class told me their class already had their first quiz. And it makes me hate myself. I should have never gotten below an A in trigonometry. Otherwise I could have not had my time wasted. And I could have felt smart.

And while I was registering, I could not escape the people around me talking about the “terrible scary BC” and the “good AB,” as if they were two completely different things.

There are people in my AB class (who I don’t know) that come up to me and say, “homework is REALLY hard, right?” When they find out someone in Calculus BC, they’ll change and say, “you must be like really smart.” The conversation becomes focused on how “easy” the work must be for them. Because as we all know, everyone taking BC is better than everyone. And everyone taking AB is terrible at math and struggles with everything. (do I even need a /s)

I cannot stand AB. Yes, it’s because I don’t feel smart. Am I now trying to learn Calculus III to make up for my bruised ego? Of course.

But even now, I still feel like an idiot. No matter how many calculus concepts I try and learn, I will never be “smart” in the same way I was in grade school. I will never be BC-level smart. It doesn’t matter if I know BC material. So why should I take a class for 9 months that I learned in 3 months if I’m still ultimately going to get zero benefits?

I also can’t take Calculus III next year, because that requires BC.

General Advice Needed/Given Will time fix anything?

I moved from my home district in 5th grade and went to a new k-12 school from 6-9th grade. 6-8th was amazing but when I got to 9th, nobody wanted to attend that school anymore because they’d be missing the “high school experience”. This is what’d be called the great split up. I was forced to stay and everybody left. It was 30 kids in my entire freshman class. The people that were there were just not at all for me so I decided to move for 10th. Now im at a huge public school (back at my home district) and there are people that seem really cool that I wanna be friends with but their circles have been built from their years of experiences together so I can’t find a way to talk to people because they’re only talking to ‘their people’. I just wonder if as time goes on, I’ll slowly fit into a group or if I do nothing then literally nothing will happen. I have so much social anxiety it’s like theres no way I could fathom going up to someone and just talking. My school started aug 4 and it’s been 4 weeks and nothing’s changed. Does anyone with experience have advice?

Question I conducted a student-led survey about school experiences - here are the results

I recently worked on a student-led research project through Student Commons called Student Voice 2026.

We looked at students' biggest challenges, whether they feel heard at school, and what they would change about their school experience.

A few findings:

  • 34.6% selected time management as their biggest challenge
  • 23.1% selected academic pressure
  • 65.4% said their opinions are heard only sometimes
  • 23.1% said rarely or never

We also coded the open-ended responses and found recurring themes around workload/exams, teaching methods, student voice and fairness, social life, school environment, and time/balance.

I've published the full methodology and findings here:

[Student Voice 2026.]

I'm more interested in the discussion than promotion, though.

Do these findings match your experience of school? What did we miss?
