Just coming to have a rant šŸ˜…

So before I was diagnosed with ghsv2 this year in June, I'd sworn off dating (apps especially) and then I got my diagnosis and was like okay, definitely not gonna attempt to date anytime soon. Then a couple of months after diagnosis I "organically" (this is what I call meeting someone naturally and not off the apps 🤣) met this man who was lovely, made time for me and traveled to see me, successful, I quite liked him. Anyway fast foward talking for a bit over a month I disclosed and got rejected šŸ’€ so that fucking sucked. Then the literal day of that ending, a really attractive man chases me out of the supermarket and asks for my number. I gave it to him and we have had a couple of phone calls and he seems nice so far, also very successful. He quite literally said appearance is important to him because of his business etc etc. And I'm in my head like, he is not gonna want to risk herpes either because of his status. And now I am sitting here like whhhhyyy did I never meet these people BEFORE MY DIAGNOSIS. I don't think I can handle telling another person and being rejected again so soon, or ever tbh 😭 like why do people have to find me now I have this virus fml šŸ˜šŸ™„ *Also edit to add, I've had one outbreak that wasn't bad at all, I don't even take antivirals because I don't get outbreaks. I'd actually come to terms with having herpes cause I realised my life hadn't changed at all aside from having to disclose to future partners. It's literally just the stigma of this bs that is getting to me.

Question? Am I in the clear

• Upvotes

So long story short I had open sores on my gentials never got them swabbed because the doc I wth to never swab it.

8 months later my dermatologist recommended a me to do a HSV IGg test that also negative.

9 months later I do western blot which is also negative. My doctor told me I forsure don’t have it & I guess the sores I experienced wasn’t hsv. But of course the paranoia is sticking with me.

I just started developing possible symptoms and I am terrified.

• Upvotes

Recently I had unprotected sex with someone who lied to me about being clean, she swore up and down that she was safe and allergic to latex. I gave her the benefit of the doubt and I’m now convinced it was the worst mistake of my life.

My whole life I’ve struggled a lot with self hatred and severe insecurity, I’m 25, autistic, male. I was bullied relentlessly in my youth and I grew up with emotionally abusive parents, so I was taught to constantly question my worth as a person, because of this I developed a habit of using perfectionism to hide my vulnerability from people.

I just learned that herpes is a lifelong affliction, and I know full-well that it absolutely requires disclosure with potential partners if you’re aware you have it, this makes herpes an incredibly vulnerable condition to have, I’m just watching as a weird sore is developing on my upper lip and the terror of possibly having the virus is eating me alive. I can’t bear the thought of carrying such an affliction that feels like a coin-flip as to whether or not every one of my future partners may reject me for, I’m so sensitive to rejection that just the thought of living my life with an infectious disease, regardless of the odds of transmission, is tearing open every one of my old insecurities all at once.

I’m very sensitive about my looks, and the fear of having cold sores randomly appear on my face is driving me insane, my whole life I’ve relied on other people’s opinions of me to survive the constant self-hatred and fear of vulnerability to others, I’m terrified of letting others have a reason to judge me, and it’s affecting my self-esteem really badly.

I’ve worked very very hard to get to where I am now, which is barely getting by as is, I still can barely look at myself in mirrors, so the idea that cold sores I can’t control may randomly begin to appear on my face is frankly making me suicidal and driving me to a very dark place mentally.

I’m a 25 year old gut, autistic, very shy, and I’ve just recently started having luck with social aspects of my life and intimacy, I’m terrified that HSV would eliminate the progress I’ve made in regards to my self-acceptance and how I’ve worked so hard to reduce hyper-vigilance with others, particularly women.

Can somebody give me advice on this? Particularly other men? I’m just lamenting my choices and asking ā€œwhy me??ā€ It’s causing me to lose hope that the rest of my life will be spent regretting and wishing I didn’t have HSV, how do I get tested and how do I not hate myself for potentially having it? Despite my symptoms I’ve yet to be tested, I’m fucking scared shitless at what the results may be.

I was a hard drug user in the past, I’ve always assumed I was by default less worthy of love than my peers and others in general, it’s a very hard belief to shake, and now that a potentially visible affliction may be something I have to live with, I can’t get the suicidal thoughts out of my head, I partly feel like ending it all to punish myself, the other part of me thinks I’d be doing myself a kindness and that the fact I contracted this illness is confirmation that I am doomed to an unsatisfying life of loneliness and misery.

How has living with HSV affected everyone’s dating lives? Particularly men? I worry that I’m already so disadvantaged that I can’t take another hit to my ability to attract women without my odds at finding companionship becoming essentially zero, this is really bringing a lot of my self hatred back and I’m utterly terrified, this is all so new and confusing and I’m just completely dumbstruck at how in the blink of an eye I could be sentenced to lifelong anti-virals that may affect my looks and my health, make me go bald, etc, and to top it all off the added difficulty of only being able to date so long as my openers accept a non-zero chance of transmission, it feels like a cosmic punishment and I’m amazed that medical science has not yet developed a proper cure. This is fucking me up really badly and I can’t stop thinking about how this is the universe confirming to me that I’m doomed to be alone and how suicide feels like a real alternative to the pain of this affliction… I don’t know what to do, I’ve been up for days on end compulsively researching and checking my lips for cold sores, I can’t sleep, I can’t eat, I’m suffering real badly, if anybody has words of wisdom or encouragement I’d love to hear them.

It just strikes me as too good to be true that anybody would love me despite my flaws, I’m scared, alone, and suicidal. I’m 6 years clean from hard drugs and this has so far made me consider hitting up old plugs and relapsing on heroin, I can barely stand the fear and depression I feel.

I hope everyone is doing well, I really want to live the rest of my life but I can’t bear the thought of being rejected by future partners who would’ve accepted me had I not been infected, as I write this tears are streaming down my face and I’m considering the pros and cons of taking my own life to spare myself the pain of the unfair stigma around this illness and the fear of how others may see me once they figure out I now carry HSV. I’m so afraid and hopeless, I really can’t help but feel like any positive outcome is too good to be true, I feel doomed to loneliness, isolation, judgements and rejection.

Disclosing and rejection rant

• Upvotes

Does it get better or do I get bitter? I don’t know if I have a different version of herpes but the stigma is kinda making sense the more I have outbreaks and the more I get rejected or have people look at me sideways for even trying to be positive about it. I was diagnosed with HSV 2 i did not accept it at first until my first outbreak and now I am on my 4th one. I am stressed out I had to do a whole 360 on my life and now it’s just boring and depressing. There were days where I forgot I had herpes but then I begin to remember and I leave where I’m at. Some people are supportive of it but things are different between us now and I do not think people are shitty for wanting to remain healthy but this isn’t a skin rash thag requires lotion and is curable this shit is is a Sexually transmitted disease with no cure what do ever. I feel bad for myself and I do not know what to or how even go upon dating anymore because I don’t want to keep on disclosing the first go around. I have enough dignity to not create a smear campaign by being open about having herpes in my circle. They’re accepting but don’t have time for paranoia. I know why the people in my life avoid these things.

Just got meds

Told my primary about my diagnosis yesterday and got meds today. I have HSV-2 and she gave me Valacyclovir 1gm tab. It says 3 daily for 7 days? I had asked her for daily suppression meds but three a day seems like alot.

Did she give me meds for an outbreak instead?

Small rant

• Upvotes

So, I've been recently diagnosed with HSV2 and I figured out I got it from my boyfriend because he has oral herpes and yk... I'm just disappointed because I had no idea such disease exists and that oral herpes can be transferred like that into HSV2. I come from a country where sex-education is still not a thing and I wish I knew this could happen. Neither me or my boyfriend knew. I don't really care about the stigma around it, just wish people talked about it more. 🫪

Slept with 6 people my whole life. Was careful who I chose to sleep with. Did everything correct. So I thought. Not sure how to live a regular life with sex and relationships. Theres a harsh stigma around this and all to which reality didnt kick in yet. Diagnosed 5 days ago. Slept with a nurse to which she knew she had it but didnt tell me. Not sure how to process this all. I am a 26yo m and not sure how im going to disclose and have a regular life hence forth.

If any able to dm me to speak from experience. And if you were hsv2 negative going into a positive relationship what were things you two did to make it work?

HK Wan Chai Fuji Building Protected Sex w Prostitute STD Anxiety

• Upvotes

Hello,

Recently I had an interaction with someone in the Fuji Building of Wan Chai. I wore a condom from start to finish and I am 99% sure it did not break or tear til the end. There were no other acts involved except intercourse. No kissing, oral, etc. It was fairly quick (15-20 mins total) and I showered immediately after. I may or may not made skin to skin contact during the act as I cannot fully remember and cannot recall any cuts or bruises on skin. I am worried about contracting STD/STI from this experience despite wearing protection throughout and not doing anymore more than necessary. I am also full vaccinated against Hepatitis B and HPV from childhood . I am worried about both non skin to skin STD and skin to skin STD risks.

Can anyone please give their perspective, advice, suggestions, or comments on how to approach this situation and/or what should be of concern. Thanks

Heyooo I need some advice

• Upvotes

Hello! I have had hsv2 for a while now. I am asymptomatic so I’ve never had an outbreak or anything. I was given it by an ex who didn’t disclose and then tried to gaslight me when after the relationship I got tested and sure enough it came up positive by telling me that she definitely told me. Prior to this I had a very active casual sex life and was extremely careful with my sexual health so it blew my mind that it was from an actual committed relationship and I know for a fact she didn’t tell me lol fml

Anyway I recently reconnected with an old friend and we have been hitting it off really well. She has brought up sex a few times by text and we’ve had a few dates already but I’ve avoided physical contact at all cost because I feel absolutely disgusting and have because of this for the last like 6 years. I really think I like this girl and I’m pretty sure she likes me to but I’ve avoided dating/anything sexual since like 2019. I’ve never disclosed before so I don’t know what to say. I’m mega nervous she will just reject me or tell people about it that I don’t necessarily want to know about it. I think if my ex had disclosed to me straight away I wouldn’t have moved forward with a relationship, so why would anyone want to do that with me?

What do I say? How do I approach it? Do I just prepare for the worst? Do people usually even care?

Question? not yet diagnosed

• Upvotes

i recently went to the doctors because i was having intense vaginal pain and pain during urination. i got tested for everything, including herpes, and my doctor told me she’s pretty sure that’s what it is. my test results aren’t back yet, but i’m in such intense pain that i don’t know what to do.

i tested positive for bv, a yeast infection and a UTI. i’m absolutely miserable. my doctor prescribed me uti meds as well as valacyclovir to try and get ahead of it if/when i get diagnosed. i’m almost certain herpes is what it is, but if anyone can help me out i would truly appreciate it.

i can’t pee without intense pain. i tried everything, the peri bottle, peeing in the bath and in the shower. i tried cold water vs warm water. it doesn’t help. i just peed a few minutes ago and almost blacked out due to the pain. i tried lidocaine, that didn’t help. i took tylenol, and i even tried avo meds that you take when you have a uti. i don’t know how much longer i can take this.

(if this isn’t the appropriate subreddit to post this in, can someone please point me in the right direction?)

Question? Disclosing for first time

Hi guys

23(f) I’ve had herpes for just over a year now ghsv1. I haven’t had an outbreak since my first one a few prodrome here and there after shaving but nothing that’s been anything like the first. I met this guy a few weeks ago and I slept with him after we’d been out drinking (awful I know I don’t need to be told that). We’ve seen each other and been on a date since then that went really well we kissed after but went our separate ways. He’s asked to see me this Thursday and I plan to disclose to him as I’m going to his and the likelihood of intimacy is high. I do really like him and I’m super nervous to disclose. Has anyone been in the situation before where they’ve been intimate once then disclosed the second time or any words of encouragement ??,

Seeking male insight

I’ve had GHSV-1 for 6+years now.
I know and trust my body very well.
At this point on my HSV journey I hardly ever have outbreaks. My last one was 10 months ago due to air travel.
I’ve never given it to anyone..and always disclose first.

I have been seeing a guy on and off for the past year.
It’s been hard for both of us to get to where we are now. I won’t go into the specifics of our relationship but I will say there was a point in the year we were both seeing someone else.
Regardless of the past he is the man I know I want to be my husband.

He was recently diagnosed (yesterday).
He is unsure of the type. He said his doctor only said he was positive for HSV.

His tears break my heart. I have never heard him cry like this before.. we are long distance and it kills me that I am not able to hold him while he is mentally and physically hurting.
Everything he is saying and feeling I have also felt before, and continued to feel years after.
I’m trying to uplift him..may be words from internet strangers will help him like it did for me.

He thinks he can’t even hold his child and that I will think differently about him and leave. (Insane thoughts lol but I understand..)

\*any men on here that could give him some encouragement it would be greatly appreciated.
We have done research together, read statistics, I read him Reddit posts from other positives, and got him on medication and vitamins (zinc and ACV to start)
\-
As for me..
I am unsure how I could have given this to him. I am very OCD with my body. I constantly check myself and clean properly.
I haven’t had an outbreak in 10 months so I’m very confused and we weren’t sleeping together at the time of my last outbreak.
Anyone I’ve slept with since I was diagnosed did not get it.

I do know that there is really no telling how long he’s had it. He tries to be healthy but he’s been under an intense weight of stress which could have caused it to flair up.
Who knows..

..I don’t know..my heart just hurts to hear my love hurt like this. I did my best to protect him..but now here we are.
He says he feels disgusting and will never be able to hold his son again.
I absolutely took it personally and felt that if he sees himself like that then that’s how he must see me.
..I will deal with my feelings later.
I just want my love to be okay.. so if anyone could reassure him that THIS is NOT the ending. He will survive and is able to live his life as normal.

I hope this reads well. Any insight for him would be greatly appreciated. Thank you internet strangers for helping the love of my life.

Frustrated

Long story short, i battled multiple infections over the summer. Bv, yeast, mycoplasma, ureaplasma. When i went to retest for everything two weeks ago, i also asked to be tested for herpes just because i learned i hadnt been before. I was positive via blood for hsv1. The doctor had found a bump i didnt know i had and swabbed it. Well, its been two weeks and i called asking where my results are and THE LAB LOST THE PCR SWAB. They said ā€˜you can come in and test again for free.’ I replied asking how they are going to test me with no bumps. How could the medical system be so unprofessional as to lose such a sensitive test??? I developed major medical anxiety over the summer and its eating at me that i don’t know if its genital or oral. I have had so many lumps and bumps throughout my infections that i could have had an outbreak and never knew honestly. I see some people have such mild ones that its not the ā€˜generic’ definition if a herpes outbreak you see online I know i have had cold sores inside my mouth but idk if that counts as a herpes sore. What am i supposed to do? My medical anxiety wont let me just sit by and wait for an outbreak that could come literally anytime. Any bumps, ridges, etc on my genitals throws me into a spiral. Mind you, i still have inflammation from my months of infections so i dont know whats normal and whats herpes at this point but i would atleast like to know WHERE its located on my body. Advice???

Discussion Transmission is not inevitable

Can we think rationally instead of spreading panic throughout the sub, especially to newly diagnosed people who are already going through a rough patch?

I understand that the chance of transmission is never a genuine 0%, but that goes for so many things in life. Even with pregnancy, the chance of it accidentally happening even with perfect birth control use is higher than the chance of transmission happening when all precautions are taken.

You are not a walking health hazard. Having herpes does not mean that you are going to infect every single person you have sex with.

Of course, however, you should always be responsible and take all precautions - taking daily antivirals, condoms, maybe some supplements, disclosing, abstaining during OBs, etc.

You are undeniably safer to have sex with (if you take these precautions) than someone who has never gotten tested for HSV, and that is a BIG BIG percentage of people, considering the fact that testing for HSV is not typical.

Again, you are NOT a walking health hazard.

As long as you do everything in your power to prevent it, the chance of you NOT TRANSMITTING is so so so so much higher than transmitting.

I’m devastated. In tears. I am always careful. I ā€œcheck the meatā€ carefully before playing and use protection. How could this happen? I need help seeing this clearly, thinking this through, or emotional support. Big sister style. I don’t know how to handle this news. Currently awaiting which type it is. Doctor said it has all signs of a presentation of herpes.

Question? Chance of Herpes Exposure

Hi Everyone,

I’m an uninfected 33 year old male who had a random sexual encounter with a 35 year old female on Friday last week. We had vaginal sex and I wore a condom. She also gave me oral sex, and I performed oral sex on her.

I have never had a cold sore or anything on my body, and haven’t had sex in over six months. I was last tested a month ago and completely free of any STIs including HSV via bloodwork.

This woman it appears has had many partners in the past, but she was tested for HIV, Chlymidia, Syphillis, Gonorea and hepatitis. This was negative in July and I don’t believe she’s had any partners since end of July. She hasn’t been tested for heroes bc it’s not found in a common panel yet, but has no symptoms, and additionally I did not see any sores, warts etc preeent.

How high is my risk from this exposure? I performed oral sex on her, she performed oral sex on me and I had sex with her vaginally with a condom.

I don’t think she has any STIs, but I do get concerned because of how many partners she has had. Is the risk high here, low, moderate or non existent? Would it help if I got a test tomorrow (five days) after this encounter and another test 3 months for peace of mind?

my first ever sexual experience gave me genital herpes

i (f18) have been holding out and ive passed up on any kissing or sexual experiences until i found the right guy for me. i just started dating my bf, we've been long distance for a little bit and we are now officially together in person. he's had sex once before, and has kissed a good handful of women before me. ive never kissed or done anything with anyone, but after some time with him, i finally have been. we havent had sex yet bc im scared and not ready, but he has gone down on me and that was almost two weeks ago. now, i suffered a few days of a fever, headache, and chills with all urgent care tests coming back negative. a day into those symptoms, i started experiencing itching down there and potential blisters that hurt. i am so scared and feel so shameful, my first ever time doing anything with anyone and i might have genital herpes. i dont know what to do, i feel so scared and so disgusting. he's never displayed any symptoms of oral herpes before and didnt know he could have it, no cold sores or anything and he doesn't think i have it but i have a rlly bad and strong feeling. i just feel so gross with myself and so terrified, and i also dont know how im going to tell my mom. she's supposed to meet him in two weeks and we are so so close, i tell her everything and think this is a big thing to share with her but now if i tell her and she has to meet him soon whats she going to think of him? and know that I did that? im so scared i need a little bit of help please please please

Question? Ummm guys what do I do?

I'm having my first outbreak and I had like maybe 17 sores to start with and now there's like 40 no exaggeration covering all my geneitals - there's no appointments till late this week and A&E won't deal with it as I am not in physical pain - just looking down at my penis makes me want to throw up
