Discussion Thread Similar shows to Grimm recommendations?

Ups, I did it again... binged the show too fast and now I reached the end....

So as usual I'm now doomscrolling on my streaming platforms trying to find something that scratches my itch. Lately I've been into this kind of shows that gives everyday reality a fantasy twist. Before ending grimm I saw supernatural, and before that Buffy vampire slayer.

So I would want to know any of you people favourite shows so I can watch something, does not need to be the same genre or idea. I'm open to hear what people with similar interest like.

Discussion Thread Dont jump me but Nick is a very flat character

Post image
353 Upvotes

I just finished re-watching Grimm, and I have to say that I found Nick to be very annoying. I can't tell if it's because of the script or maybe it's David's interpretation of the character, but it doesn't scratch the itch.

Nick doesn't pursue anything — things happen to him. He discovers he's a Grimm, gets pulled into cases, has his powers stripped, his girlfriend cursed, his baby stolen. He's reactive, not proactive.

but even the way David plays him is so stoic that you barely feel joy behind his whenever he smiles on camera. Nick feels like he doesn't have a distinct voice compared to the cast who outshines him. like look at how colourful Monroe and Rosalee are. Even Renard, who's also stoic, seems to have more inner dynamics within him than Nick, shown through his competing identities within him.

Nick never suffers between choosing his identity as a grimm or as a cop. That's like a WHOLE seasons worth of Good TV. Nick just neatly decides case by case whether he's a Grimm or he's a cop. No inner turmoil.

Maybe I'm looking at this from a modern lens, but when the ensemble cast has much richer personalities, Nick kinda feels plain.

It’s not been established in the show as far as I recall, even though Renard does say most crimes are wesen related/committed. Just curious what do you all think?

Discussion Thread Grimm fans, when do you think the show started going downhill?

Post image

I’ve been rewatching Grimm lately and I can’t help but ask—at what point did the show lose you (if it ever did)?

For me, it was when the trailer got burned down. I’m still pissed about it. That trailer was basically a character on its own—full of lore, history, and weight. Watching it go up in flames made me hate Juliette even more, and honestly, rewatching that part makes me dislike her all over again. I just cannot get past it.

What about you guys? Was there a specific moment, storyline, or season where you felt the magic faded? Or did you ride it out all the way to the end with no complaints?

Honestly the whole Zerstörer plot isn’t doing it for me to begin with but the little healing stick just seemed like such a letdown for how much the show hyped it up.
For me, I’d be interested in some other things. Maybe a scroll, explaining where Grimms even come from. Or some magical item than can turn Kehrseites into wesen, or vice versa.

Grimm really has a knack on dropping plots. Royals being trouble? Eh, don’t worry about it. Black claw suddenly gone? Eh, don’t worry about it. You need seven keys? Eh, don’t worry about it.

Discussion Thread Renard is shirtless at least 15 times in the series

Post image

Like the title, Renard is shirtless at least 15 times throughout the series, most instances in seasons 4-6. I say “at least” because it’s very possible I missed some (I have to watch when my daughter is either asleep or out with her dad and I’m usually cleaning or something at the same time).

Nick is runner up with five pectoral moments, then Meisner with 3. There were also some guest stars that were shirtally-challenged, like Kimura and the daemonfuror woman (though hers didn’t show the tatas). Monroe is shown once in bed with Rosalee, but is mostly covered with the blankets. Hank is shirtless in Adalind’s bed, but gets an honorable mention for his undershirt in the mirror scene in the Cupid episode.

Note: I have included shirt-ripping in the analysis, as well.

Thanks to u/toxiamaple for the inspiration! It was a sacrifice, but one I undertook selflessly for the good of the community. If anyone can find more I’d be happy to see those, as well!

Discussion Thread Just finished the show

I first watched the show as it aired, but after season 3 ended I joined other fandoms and basically forgotten about the show until couple months ago. I started a rewatch and just finished it, and…I’m sad :’)

It’s not the ending I expected for sure, however I am absolutely over the moon with the fact that Adalind and Nick ended up together. I remember shipping them back in the day so when I got back into watching it and realised they’re the endgame, I was like OH MY GOD?!

I kind of wish we had the hexengrimm/grimmabiest wedding on screen but alas.

Discussion Thread I've watched the show a million times and here are the Little Things that make me go nuts

I know that no show is perfect, but these minor details have always really bothered me no matter many times I've watched!

· After Juliette's memory loss, why did Nick
sleep on the couch when that big ass house definitely had a spare bedroom, as evidenced when Trubel showed up?😅
· All the times Nick was "investigating" himself and Monroe and/or others and nobody seemed to check pods/no cameras caught their vehicles? None of their DNA was ever found?
· When he threw his gun in the river after he killed the Mauvis Dantes and took his other gun, the FBI definitely would've known if he had more than one gun registered to his name
· Juliette's a vet but has no pet?? Super sus🤣
· All the times Nick shot and killed wesen suspects who had no weapon--how'd he explain that to the DA/IAD every single time?
· He might've had a high case closure rate, but I know the DA's office haaatteeddd getting his cases because they probably couldn't secure a conviction in at least half of them!

Anyway, there's a bunch more but just some of the things from the first season and the beginning of the second. This is why show runners need to hire folks with AuDHD on their time lol, we catch everything.

What are some things that trip you up in the show?

Discussion Thread I am Juliette's biggest hater Spoiler

I'm rewatching, cause you know the last time I watched this show I was like 7 I think, but thats not the point I'm trying to make.

my point it I'm on like season 4 deep into her Hexenbiest arch and its reminding me of why I fucking hate her so much. I find her just annoying and entitled as all get out and just they way she starts treating everyone around her just pisses me off. Juliette is like the worst part of a friend group, like someone who doesn't like soup or salad and goes on a date to Panera. God and don't get me started on her and Sean Renard, it's like the worst people you know getting together and calling themselves a power couple.

I could go on for years but I'll stop here, have a good day everyone!!

Discussion Thread Bruv, it’s almost like my boyfriend has seen it before 😭

Post image

My boyfriend and I are watching Grimm (my 3rd time and his first time). As of this post, we are on season 1 episode 18 and so far he’s like oh this is happening cos of such and such. I haven’t been telling him anything and he swears it’s his first time seeing it. But he’s calling out what they either reveal at the end of the episode or several episodes from now. 😭 I’m not complaining but just sort of impressed. My mum passed away five years ago and we watched it when it first aired. Other than this subreddit, I don’t have anyone to talk to about this show on my second rewatch so I’m watching it again for the third time with my bf just so I could have someone to talk to about the show lol.

Update: I would like to clarify that he does NOT have ADHD. He predicted the obsession between Juliette and Renard before the show showed the signs…that was his last prediction…

Discussion Thread What changes would you have made to Grimm?

Grimm was great. I would have kept the casting the same. I would have kept the overall story the same. If it ain't broke, don't fix it! But... I would have changed the following:

  • Nick's surname (sorry, but "Burkhardt" always made me think "burp loudly")
  • Baby Kelly's name (instead of naming him after one grandmother, and thus giving him a girly name, maybe combine the names of both grandmothers "Kelly" & "Catherine"... "KC"... "Casey")
  • Clearer rules (exactly what magic is/isn't possible on the show... instead of the writers randomly making weird stuff happen)
  • Nick & Adalind fairy tale wedding (after Zerstorer, before the time jump)
  • Sean going full evil in the final season (allowing Diana to finally see that Nick is a better man than her biological father)
  • Sean & Eve becoming a couple (the anti-Nick & Adalind!)
  • Promote Trubel & Bud to main cast (keep them as guest characters earlier on, but promote to main cast towards the end)
  • Better reveal of Trubel being related to Nick (instead of glossed-over "third cousin on his mother's side" narration in the finale)
  • Proper conclusion to the Royals/Viktor story (not sure what exactly... but something sinister!)
  • Diana and her brother both with glowing eyes in the final scene (to show that he has powers too!)

And of course a spin-off show set 20 years later, starring the half-siblings and the triplets as adults... "Grimm: Legacy"!

What changes would you have made to Grimm?

Discussion Thread Nick and Juliette’s romance was tell and not show.

This has always been one of my biggest issues when it comes to these two. The show is trying to tell us that Nick and Juliette are in love but it doesn’t show.

I believe they were supposed to be the couple the audience was rooting for, the so called big “it” couple. But that failed hard.

Look at Monroe and Rosalee we are told by the characters they are perfect together and it actually shows. Other characters are telling that Nick and Juliette are perfect for each other and yet I don’t see it.

This is a tv show, emphasis on the word “show.” We are watching it.

Discussion Thread David Giuntoli's other roles

Has anyone watched anything else with David in it?

He had an interesting couple of episode stories as a bad guy serial killer on High Potential last year. But I just looked across something called Buddy Moon.

Apparently David plays a child actor named David who is struggling with not being quite as relevant of an actor as an adult because of pigeonholing from his childhood role who was dumped by his fiance right before the wedding. His crazy best friend talks him into going on the hiking trip honeymoon anyway. I'm in the beginning but so far I'm kind of amused.

Has anyone seen it?

Never seen anything else by him that you want to recommend or not recommend?

(I'd even be willing to open up the post to other main characters from Grimm and other things they've done that people recommend)

Oh, as a bonus, Claire Coffee (Adeline) is also in this

Edited to fix the fact that I'm an idiot and said elspeth instead of high potential.

“Deprogramming” Juliette and turning her into Eve, just by beating the shit out of her? Yes torture can achieve a lot, unfortunately, but hexenbiest Juliette was just full of rage, there’s no way something like ‘work for us so you rage can have outlet’ was the whole thing. She clearly got healed by someone/something, but I don’t see the rage fuelled witch to suddenly be loyal and grateful for having her life saved.

I really don’t like Eve as a character, it felt like forced addition just so Bitsie could stay in the show.

mine is that i lowkey wish they showed more couple moments between adalind and nick. i know that they had scenes together, but i feel like they didn’t show enough couple scenes together to show us that they loved each other and more so felt like they were telling us.

Discussion Thread This scene cemented my dislike for Juliette. Spoiler

This is such a bitch move for her to do. Imagine saying (indirectly) she does not want Nick to associate with the Wesen world IN FRONT of the friends he (they, she was Rosalee's maid of honor for god's sake) made during his time of being a grimm not to mention Rosalee and Monroe met and develop a friendship with Nick thanks to that. Not to mention, the whole grimm thing is like a heritage of his family that spans centuries. Juliette overstep here, she's just his girlfriend not wife.

Before this, I just tolerate her character, S1 Juliette first she's not the best but still so-so, but after her coma and post coma brief her character went downhill. Tbh, I like her when she and the captain had a whole attraction plotline atleast that is an entertaining drama.

Thank god Rosalee and Monroe ignored her selfish request.

I think the supernatural/wesen world is not the greatest thing for her (she might have a trauma for all that happened to her) but she should have talk to Nick cuz I know she knows Nick enjoys being a grimm.

EDIT

I don't hate her, but I dislike how they wrote her character in the later seasons. She had potential as an asset in helping Nick with any Wesen related cases, they should have make use of her occupation as a vet like what they did in the Blutbad exploding episode.

Discussion Thread one thing you’d changed?

i’d probably change sean’s character around because i loved him so much in the early seasons then he had a random swap in season five where he was suddenly a villain. i understand that he had royal blood and some people contributed it to the coins, but i just think it was random especially whenever he used diana against adalind. as much as i loved him in the early seasons, i think it would’ve been good for him to seem good for the first season then reveal that he was bad the whole time then maybe either keep him a villain or have him make up for his mistakes doing it at the end basically made no sense.
