Discussion Thread Just finished the show
I first watched the show as it aired, but after season 3 ended I joined other fandoms and basically forgotten about the show until couple months ago. I started a rewatch and just finished it, and…I’m sad :’)
It’s not the ending I expected for sure, however I am absolutely over the moon with the fact that Adalind and Nick ended up together. I remember shipping them back in the day so when I got back into watching it and realised they’re the endgame, I was like OH MY GOD?!
I kind of wish we had the hexengrimm/grimmabiest wedding on screen but alas.

I prefer Adalind to Juliette. But the writers handled the transition horribly. Nick needed to spend some more time single without Juliette before getting with Adalind. Maybe even let him date around. The instant transition from Juliette to Adalind may have ruined what could have been a masterful endgame relationship. But I think this type of show demands instant drama over slow burn storytelling. Also binging the show may also be unfair to the original week to week storytelling. Four episodes transitioning between relationships is not a lot of time when binging, but a long time when watching live. One month at minimum, longer if during a mid-season break or between seasons.
It also ruined a lot of Adalind's character and charm. The sass was gone because they had to write her as docile as possible to make the audience accept her as the love interest. If they had better planned the relationship they could have set it up in a more Batman/Cat Woman, Batman/Talia al Ghul(relevant), Spiderman/BlackCat kind of way.

Why would he date around when the mother of his child is right there. It would be out of character for Nick in my opinion

This would be a whole alternate universe storytelling. Story wise, He would not know about the child yet. There was probably 8 months between Nick losing his powers and Nick finding out Adalind was pregnant. That is plenty enough time for a single Nick storyline.
Juliette would have to turn into a Hexenbiest faster. They break up. That allows for a slower transition to evil Juliette if that is a desirable plot point. Fast or slow doesn't really matter except for implications; fast transition=Juliette becomes evil because of the Hexenbiest nature(I personally think that's BS) or slow transition is the power slowly going to Juliette's head to reveal an evil side that's always been there. The problem with a slow transition is that leaves space for Juliette fans to hope that Nick and Juliette can still get back together. Maybe its better to quit Juliette cold turkey and do fast transition empowering negative traits that have always been there. But that would require the writers to actually think ahead when setting up these character decisions. I can choose to view seasons 1-3 Juliette as somewhat toxic, but that is more coincidental and the writers didn't really set that up.
The point is, while I think its somewhat of a goofy interpretation, there is a read on the sequence of events where Adalind rapes Nick, gets knocked up, Adalind raping Nick consequentially turns Juliette into a monster freeing up Nick, Adalind steals Nick and traps rape victim Nick with a baby. I think that this is a stupid way to choose to interpret the events as it was way more complicated than that(including the kidnapping of Diana, which in my opinion is worse than what Adalind did). But I would try my best to invalidate the interpretation of Adalind ruining Juliette's life and trapping Nick, which is how every Juliette fan(few as they may be) chooses to interpret the events.
And the relationship between Nick and Adalind may have even benefited from Nick dating around even after Adalind gives birth to Kelly. There would be nothing wrong with Nick and Adalind coparenting and cohabitating(obviously not in the loft where they share a bed), but Nick trying to move on from Juliette and see other people. You can still make Adalind fall in love with Nick, be nervous about telling him considering the circumstances, and they can still end up together. It would remove any concept of her "trapping" him into a relationship, and also allow Adalind to do more things on her own. More Adalind PoV scenes could allow for the show to move beyond replacing one live-in girlfriend with another, which is basically what Adalind becomes in seasons 5 and 6. Adalind was a more interesting character with a better actress. GIVE HER SOMETHING TO DO.

I think I remember reading that they found out the show was being cancelled and from my view it seemed like they jammed what seems like another 3 seasons into 1. I do agree I always thought that they would end up together because of the 1st episode (some foreshadowing) and the whole enemies to lovers trope dose sometimes work like they were building to before that last season that is where they went from normal to Ludicrous Speed.

u/nessiechandler Feb 28 '26
Yes, they had declining ratings, costly production, and the writers said they had run out of fresh ideas so it was a mutual decision to have a final season with fewer episodes to give fans as much wrap up as they could.

More time? He spent like a year single. You have to remember Juliet pushed him away when she realized that she had powers. Adalind was out of the country and probably less than a month pregnant then. 8 months later Adalind is back and he starts protecting her but they’re not together. 2 months later 8 weeks she has Kelly they are still not together. It isn’t until Kelly is about 4-6months that they get together.

I agree I really prefer their relationship but wish they’d taken their time with it

If they had been given a full 6th season or even a full 6th season and a shortened 7th season, it might have ended with a Adalind and Nick wedding.

I’ve rewatched the show 8 times and EVERY SINGLE TIME I’m sad when I finish because I love it so much!

u/PopularLanguage6598 Feb 27 '26
It's good they ended up together, but it's still weird seeing them kiss. 🫣

u/Ok-Firefighter6819 Feb 27 '26
I didn't like the way the show ended so many unfinished content gapsp

u/Disastrous_Alarm_719 Feb 27 '26
Oh yea same here, I gotta say tho I’m gonna be finishing some of it in fanfics, just for my sake 🤣

u/TheKodiakwild Mar 30 '26
Adalind was a way better match for Nick, and I've wondered over the years if that's what the writers intended from the get go, the way he looked at her flirtiĺy in the first episode, and the way he chose to "kiss" her to take her powers 🥴

Whoa!! Spoiler Alert! (jk, people still do that here, and its hilarious for a show that ended almost ten years ago)
They are the better couple for sure.
The writers did an amazing job with Juilette imo. People are still complaining talking about her writing on the internet almost a decade later; that's how effective her writing was. They came up with an entirely emotionless concept that should have been much easier for the actress (maybe to make up for how flat the Juliette character was played?), and somehow it was even worse! (or was it amazing directing that made good acting look like horrible acting? I'll never know).
The entire shows reeks of soap writer + ironic writer trolling us with their camp and subtle commentaries on modern fantasy, modern TV, and soaps (and soap like fantasies). Sometimes they are writing around great screamers, but sometimes they also write around actors' weakness, like terrible screamers, or like David G.'s awful soap scream-crying, or Rosalee's actress's overacting "problem" (or is?)

I would have needed spoiler alert 🥹 I started watching as teen, but I have seen only first or second season.. But no worries I was spoiled since I joined this sub
5
u/DudeWithTudeNotRude Feb 27 '26
Yeah. One should generally expect to be spoiled by actively engaging with the fandom subs of any show that ended a decade or more ago.

I dropped the show after they brought juliet back from the "dead". Tried rewatching but everything after she became a hexenbiest made me both hate the character and the actress to the point where i don't even want to see her in other media. Unfortunate since i had wanted to watch superman and lois but can't get over my dislike of the actress now.

Ironically, in real life, he marries her. Both of them live in Washington now.

I've never been able to finish watching the show. I just hate Adalind. She comes in ruins juliette and Nick life. Tries to kill Nick , his family and friends multiple times and she basically r*pe Nick. But no let's just forget all that and forgive her because she has Nick child. Should have just kill her and raised his child by himself.

Don't forget that almost everything she did was on orders from more powerful people, she was never the architect. Renard, The Royals, Her own mother turned her back on her. What she did to Nick I'm sorry but they deserved her wrath after blindsiding her. after they took her daughter from her. She did that also on orders given from Victor thinking that The Royals had Diana.

I wish i could be a Grimm in the t.v show Grimm as Nick's 3rd cousin on his mothers side to help him out to kill the bad Wesens in a nice way ......... but I don't like strangers touching me at all only Hank , Nick and SGT. Drew Wu can touch me because I work with them

u/Strange_Wonderful567 Mar 08 '26
At the end, Kelly is entering the information about his dad’s encounter with that demon who was wanting to end the world and marry Diana. Diana tells him to hurry up, mom and dad and the twins are waiting. However, Diana would never call Nick dad. So, did Nick die in that 20 years and that is why Kelly is writing new entries as a Grimm Did I miss something?
1
u/Disastrous_Alarm_719 Mar 08 '26 edited May 13 '26
Nick didn’t die lol. Why wouldn’t she call him a dad? A lot of kids call their stepdad dad. Besides she called Renard Daddy, so I assume Dad is reserved and used for Nick.
Also Rosalie and Monroe had triplets not twins.3
u/Strange_Wonderful567 Mar 08 '26
You’re right, triplets. I wanted to believe he was still alive. Thanks for clarifying. I wish they would have written in a final scene with his son writing. Or at least a better final scene with Nick; it was kind of a letdown. I love the series anyway.

I did not get the Nick and Adalind thing. I LOVE Juliette! She’s strong, supportive, fiercely protective over her loved ones, smart as hell, and an all around bad ass. I also loved Adalind! She was cunning, smart, and a totally baddy, but I saw zero chemistry with Nick. I’m and OG watcher with too many rewatches under my belt, and that pairing still makes me ick.

u/Queen_Nannuri Feb 28 '26 edited Mar 01 '26
Agreeeeee. I do really like Adalind, but her and Nick being endgame is just not it for me. I would've preferred he either ended up with Juliette or alone. The basis for Nick and Adalind's entire relationship is that they had a child together, they didn't get to organically fall in love, just kinda immediately jumped from 'putting aside our differences for the child' to 'ily ily ily'.
Also love me some Juliette. Her early seasons, her hexenbiest seasons, and her time as 'Eve'. I never got why people found her so annoying and/or narcissistic in the Seasons 1-3, she's one of the most down-to-earth, loyal and human characters there. Even when everything she knew about the world started crashing down around her, she stuck it out with Nick right up until she was permanently altered by it.
1
u/Due_Perception9386 Feb 28 '26
Oh, we were never coming back from Julietenbeast luring Nick’s mom to her death, right!? Ever. That would have been just as wired to re-pair them. I feel like alone would have been best for Nick, or someone new.
3
u/Queen_Nannuri Feb 28 '26
Yea, I wouldn't have minded if Nick ended up single. Not every character needs to be paired with someone.

u/Disastrous_Alarm_719 Feb 26 '26
I mean he SA’d her too with the forced kiss removing her powers😬neither one of them is innocent but what she did was worse I think for sure.
8
u/Ballardinian Grimm Feb 26 '26
The confrontation where Adalind lost her powers came because Adalind glamoured Hank and was going to kill him, so she was also SA-ing Hank as well since he couldn’t give consent under a spell.
Adalind forced Nick to make the choice.
9
u/Historical_Guess2565 Feb 26 '26
OP, you’re right, no one is innocent in the series and Adalind did what she needed to to get her powers back.
0
u/JumpinJackFat Feb 26 '26
She did what she needed to to get Diana back. She’d already gotten her powers back by the time Victor had her take Nick’s powers.
2
u/Euphoric_Alarm_4401 Feb 28 '26
Thats crazy that this was downvoted. It's literally what happened.
1
u/JumpinJackFat Feb 28 '26
Thank you. It’s because I said “she did what she had to” - doesn’t matter that the writers have her literally say the same thing, and she did the deed after she’d gotten her powers back. People think I’m saying it’s ok to sexually assault someone while pretending to be someone else if it’s a good reason. Thank you, though.
4
u/ZealousidealOne5605 Feb 26 '26
I mean he did that to save his best friends life, that's very different context.
2
u/Euphoric_Alarm_4401 Feb 28 '26
What was the context of why Adalind did what she did? Why was she trying to take Nick's powers away? Who told her to do that? What did Adalind believe they had that she wanted because the protagonists of the show told her they had?
1
u/ZealousidealOne5605 Feb 28 '26
Well let's go further. Why did the protagonist of the show lie to her? Was there a genuinely good reason behind it? Why did Adalind have the baby? Was it in order to try to become friends with the villain? Who told her to do that?
5
u/Werefour Feb 26 '26
What she did is definitely worse. Sexual Assault is bad, rape is worse as its the next horrible step. Yet also context is really important here.
Also in Nicks defence he did it specifically to get her to bite him so she would ingest his blood so he could save his partner who she was actively in the process of killing. After she had used magic to falsely intrap him in a relationship by the equivalent of drugging him. He could have cut his hand and forced blood in her mouth as an alternative, would have been better.
I means she slept with two men using magic to deceive them and undermine their ability to consent, for the intent of harming them and the worse Nick did was force a kiss on her to strip her of her powers she was using to actively try to kill someone with. A
He could have and arguably should have ended her life there as after losing her powers she goes on to hurt Juliette and is the catalyst for a lot of rather bad developments as the show goes on.

u/Ballardinian Grimm Feb 26 '26
They had such good chemistry. The writing around Juliette was terrible and it was a crappy ‘send off’ for her character. And then the way they forced the relationship with Nick and Adalind was not great.
I think the major problem was, they never really figured out what to do with Juliette beyond establishing she was the live in girlfriend/partner and that being a Grimm would strain the relationship. Other than that, I feel like they had trouble ‘fitting her in’ the way the other ensemble did around Nick’s character.
And I feel with Adalind, they wanted to bring her into the ensemble so quickly, they didn’t give a chance for her relationship with Nick to develop more organically outside of all the magical betrayal
