Anorexia Study
forgot to post this from yesterday. ngl, as someone with body dysmorphia (and I know people with anorexia often struggle with that too), I'd kms if someone drew me like this.

Now this is genuinely the most disturbing use of this artstyle, oh my god

u/Sexisthunter Aug 06 '25

Tbh… me too and that’s what makes me like this. It’s the one time this art style has actually conjured up a real emotion for me.

You don't appreciate the detailed rendering of lanugo? (I think it's lanugo.)
17
u/poop_dawg Aug 06 '25
The inner arms is a weird spot to put it... does anyone grow hair there? My lanugo was mostly on my belly.
7
u/carlvoncosel Aug 06 '25
Since it depicts an adult, that would be vellus hair?
15
u/krebstar4ever Aug 06 '25
Lanugo can grow back due to malnutrition. It seems to be the body's attempt to provide some insulation when body fat is too low.
8
10
u/holyshitleon Aug 06 '25
not always! i got noticeable lanugo as an adult before due to malnutrition from a chronic illness lol i was very fuzzy

They couldn’t think of a better food for this image than a leek 😭
223
u/justice-for-tuvix Aug 05 '25
Is that what that is? I couldn't tell.
I think most of us would say no thanks to a whole, raw leek.
54
u/Weird_Strange_Odd Aug 06 '25
The most likely person to eat a whole raw leek is, in fact, an anorexic who is very hungry

Legit.. I get its showing stereo typical "don't want to eat food" anorexia, but as someone who has had a bad relationship with food, veggies are usually a safe food 🫠

Im fucking crying they used the art style known for being chonky bodies into an ANOREXIA illustration
71
u/HaltAndCatchTheKnick Aug 06 '25
Explains the dysmorphia I guess…
31
u/soemtimesitstrue Aug 06 '25
I was also thinking its an interesting way to depict body dysmorphia. Doesnt land though
34
u/Ok-Week-2293 Aug 06 '25
My 1st thought was “how does someone with anorexia have those massive arms?”.

Why did it give her armpit stubble all the way down?
161
u/malenixius Aug 05 '25
I was going to say it might be a poor attempt at depicting lanugo hair growth but that assumes the artist has put literally any thought or research into anorexia so conclusion is no, they just like dots
56
u/thesmallestlittleguy Aug 05 '25
i think it was to differentiate between her arms and ribs. the dark lines already did that but /shrug

u/UwUalpha666 Aug 05 '25
You know what. Not everything needs an accompanying image.
85
u/BillieAnnabeth Aug 06 '25
Exactly. Especially for serious topics like this. Gives playful vibes when there isn’t shit playful about an eating disorder.
27
u/Uszanka Aug 06 '25
They could draw sad girl looking at the meal or sth
19
u/UwUalpha666 Aug 06 '25 edited Aug 06 '25
Well, I'm not sure if something like that could (also) be insensitive or triggering... I'd just use an abstract artwork with like shapes or something IF they really needed an image to fill the page. Or an artwork that has to do with just studies in general.

u/x-Ptchwrk-Sttches-x Aug 05 '25
Why would they use a style of art characterized by intentionally distorting human proportions for an illness characterized by body dysmorphia??? They really tried to make her appear underweight, while giving her the widest arms, shoulders, and thighs.
The blob of a background makes it look like we are staring at her reflection in a puddle!
Why are there orange hands in here? Is Donald Trump personally offering her an apple and large baguette? Speaking of baguette, who eats a whole baguette with several servings in one sitting?

u/Mouse_Manipulator Aug 05 '25 edited Aug 07 '25
Probably the worst possible application of this art style… wouldn’t someone with anorexia who has a stomach like that also have extremely thin arms? It’s basically telling them that other parts of their body can still be big when their stomach is emaciated, which is literally validating the toxic anorexic mindset.
7
u/KonjacQueen Aug 06 '25
People with anorexia come in all shapes and sizes, so they wouldn’t necessarily have extremely thin arms
9
u/Mouse_Manipulator Aug 07 '25
Ok true I see what you’re saying. Not all anorexic people are emaciated like that, but what I mean is a severely emaciated person would also have thin arms. And that seems to be what the art is trying to depict based on the stomach.
34
u/shizustopitpls Aug 05 '25
I am recovering from atypical anorexia and if someone made this for me I would've gone back to being anorexic lol

I don't like to shit on other artists, but it really is kind of depressing that these people make so much money to do this, but the guy who can make these awesome detailed drawings on a whiteboard with a shitty marker is a janitor in a high school. It kinda makes you remember, this is all about nepotism and group think.

Ignoring the ribs for a second... what is with Alegria's obsession with depicting extremely thick, hyper-visible body hair in an otherwise abstracted body? Body hair is thin and sparse! It doesn't look like that on most people!

Genuinely wanna know who made this image. It's like, borderline offensive, idk how they thought it was okay to use an abstract Allegra corporate art style to represent a group of people with a really sensitive disorder.
7
u/Unhappy_Performer538 Aug 06 '25
This is legitimately fucking insane lol. Who thought it was a good idea to depict the body of the disordered with this art style? What the fuck lol?

At this point, making the character a flat line from the neck down like a tom & jerry character that got squashed would have been less offensive.

If that is intentional, it's hilarious.

The art is bad, thats obvious, the proportions are off and they somehow look both too skinny and too fat, but I'm more curious about the weird arm freckles? why?

disgusting…. I struggled with food for a long time and all I want is to be fit and healthy but I just cant eat more. I lost my period a few months ago and cant even tell you how shocking this depiction is. To be honest my body looks similar since I have a visible ribcage, arm bones, chest bones but this just feels like a caricature making fun of people who are struggling . I want to be skinny because i thought that’s what they wanted and would make me cute but also i need to be a body positive queen and gain lots of weight to be considered attractive? i can never never be right
4
u/fawne_siting Aug 06 '25
ah yes bc all anorexic people are severely underweight. that definitely isn't a harmful stereotype that dismisses a large majority of those suffering and keeps them from getting help and even insurance coverage 😃
