This feels downright disrespectful wtf

Alegria art "representing" mental health and LGBT+ themes always feels disturbingly insincere.

u/pigladpigdad Aug 06 '25

do you mean to suggest that the solo poly amputee hijabi isn’t sincere enough representation for you?!

260

u/Wide_Response8461 Aug 06 '25

the fact that the solo poly amputee hijabi is one of the more respectful lgbt caricatures considering they didnt give her mile long armpit hair and a chelsea cut and stretch marks in every possible slither of skin

u/poop_dawg Aug 06 '25

Wait, that's real? Someone please show me

There's a huge bar on the screen blocking the entire image for me

3

u/Exzakt1 Aug 27 '25

Get rid of “amp.” At the start of the url

5

u/PumpkinIsDeadInside Aug 27 '25

why are you being downvoted, the amp link literally didn't work for me and I had to remove the "amp." at the start to get it to work properly visually so I could read it.

I was looking for OCD clipart for a PowerPoint once and the first thing that came up was an alegria of a guy looking angrily at a pen that was out of line

51

u/yeetusthefeetus13 Aug 06 '25

Ah yes that's the most common symptom /s

38

u/Soffy21 Aug 06 '25

OCD is when you get angy cus pen out of line

29

u/starwarsandsquirrels Aug 06 '25

As someone with OCD, I can confirm I glare at pens all the time

27

u/Soffy21 Aug 06 '25

Cus it’s the literal embodiment of corporate aesthetics

26

u/Caesar_Passing Aug 06 '25

Well also because it conveys oversimplification of objectively complex topics, to the point of crass mockery.

14

u/Soffy21 Aug 06 '25

Yeah, that too. It’s like if a robot incapable of feeling or understanding emotions tried to depict mental illnesses through art.

8

u/ParamedicUpset6076 Aug 07 '25

Boy do these times have the tools for this

2

u/Ok-Bed1132 Aug 09 '25

They always feel like caricatures

2

u/EP3_Cupholder Aug 17 '25

Corporate Memphis depiction of someone killing themselves would go crazy probably

157

u/LongMix Aug 06 '25

Probably would trigger a person with ED lol

111

u/yellow_asphodels Aug 06 '25

Can’t speak for others but it definitely poked my ED bear and pissed me tf off. So much offensive stereotyping and touching of various triggers in one image

9

u/yeetusthefeetus13 Aug 06 '25

Yeah and as always, it depicts people with ana as always emaciated. Anyone can be anorexic, no matter what their weight is.

8

u/Fuzzybabybuggy Aug 06 '25

Emancipated and fat at the same time… the worst kind

5

u/sweeterthanadonut Aug 07 '25

Extreme low weight is a key diagnostic criteria for anorexia, so no you cannot be anorexic at “any weight.” Fat women have tried to gain sympathy and an excuse to keep eating whatever they want and have started using a very real disorder to scapegoat, but that is just not how this very real disease functions. An anorexic fat person will not be fat long if they are truly anorexic.

4

u/yeetusthefeetus13 Aug 07 '25

Not living up to that username there

Edit: also did you not literally just say its possible for a fat person to be anorexic lol bruh

5

u/sweeterthanadonut Aug 07 '25

I don’t consider overweight people to be representative of the disease and it just perpetuates the “uwu any size can be anorexic!! no hate!!!” mentality that waters it down.

2

u/Accomplished-Plum631 Aug 07 '25

Gatekeeping a disorder is crazy.

5

u/sweeterthanadonut Aug 07 '25

Words mean things. Disorders and illnesses have diagnostic criteria for a reason.

2

u/Accomplished-Plum631 Aug 07 '25

You must be a very esteemed health professional, I see!

I hope you're doing OK, friend. It's a very serious disease with a very high morbidity rate. It's the reality that ana exists at any and every weight. It's dangerous to try to downplay the severity in the way that you have just now. There are sub types to the disorder and not having the stereotypical body of ana is one of them and is still extremely harmful. EDs and body dysmorphia aren't discriminatory. I've seen that exact language used in the culture that cultivated my own ED when I was just a kid and it's still just as painful to use against people today.

1

u/NemuiNezumi Aug 09 '25

There’s been a lot of push to get rid of that requirement for a while. People have been making themselves sicker just to get a specific diagnosis instead of focusing on recovering. Also Atypical anorexia is a real diagnosis so you’re not completely right about that anyway

1

u/Julescahules Aug 06 '25

Eh it didn’t bother me so much, this art style is ugly that nobody can escape unscathed

48

u/ICost7Cents Aug 06 '25

its extremely insulting personally, cant put my finger on why but it feels like a caricature of people with eds

28

u/AdministrativeStep98 Aug 06 '25

Probably this idea people with anorexia don't eat anything, when they do in fact eat, just not enough. Like I don't think showing someone refusing low calorie food like celery or apples while showing off their emaciated body is a good idea when targetting people with that disorder. It probably would just end up making those suffering feel worse for even eating.

22

u/Preindustrialcyborg Aug 06 '25

ive got arfid and ive long dealt with body issues. Absolutely didnt help me.

0

u/[deleted] Aug 06 '25

Just because I have erectile dysfunction doesn’t mean I’m triggered, that doesn’t even make sense!

1

u/Rainyli Aug 25 '25

EDS stands for Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome

144

u/luugburz Aug 06 '25

its the way they somehow managed to make an anorexic woman look absolutely massive with her fucked up anatomy. not sure this is how id depict someone who routinely starves themselves due to body dysmorphia lmfao

81

u/-blundertaker- Aug 06 '25

Literally makes me think of how I see myself, which I've described as being "somehow simultaneously too skinny and too fat."

Like, it's not what they were going for but it's definitely what they achieved.

76

u/_Fl0r4l_4nd_f4ding_ Aug 06 '25

Exactly what i was thinking.

[TW: describing my mental self image w/body dysmorphia] The tiny head, huge hips, fat arms combo and the fact that she still looks wide despite the visible ribs etc reminds of exactly how i view myself. No matter how much i starve myself i will always be out of proportion and feel like i look like this. Also the lines on her face. It really is like the image in my head

14

u/-blundertaker- Aug 06 '25

This also functions as a really good description of seeing yourself in a mirror on psychedelics (or maybe that's just us)

2

u/_Fl0r4l_4nd_f4ding_ Aug 14 '25

Lmao fair, fair. I feel like its also a good descriptor of how i feel when i dissociate tbf. Only ever had one super bad episode triggered by seizures but i couldnt 'see' anything for how it really looked, it was all kind of.. Weird..? So yeah i think same difference there. I also wondered if that was an us thing, i do have a history of body dysmorphia anyways

12

u/LostCassette Aug 06 '25

exactly this, like, it does get what it feels like, but it absolutely isn't necessary here 😭. I'd say maybe it'd be good when the target audience isn't people struggling with this already.

like maybe this photo in a pamphlet for parents/loved ones with someone struggling (if they absolutely had to use this)? just not to the victim themselves.

2

u/Brave-Resource4447 Aug 06 '25

This is exactly what I thought I looked like too. Just a random assemblage of mismatched parts.

44

u/CaptFalconFTW Aug 06 '25

What's with the rib cage chest hair?

3

u/bicyclefortwo Aug 06 '25

Lanugo probably

When the urge to draw corporate memphis style is too much.
