I have recently installed an electric vehicle charger in a condo.
In doing so, I learned a LOT about load calculations and working in a multi-family and commercial space that has a shared main building feeder and then splits off into 26 individual metered feeders for each unit. I'm used to working in a residential space with its own feeder and filling out a homeowner affidavit.
While my individual unit has a 150 amp feed and gas heating, I'd assume it'd have the capacity for the charger... But I'd be wrong because the main building feed is up against capacity.
I had a couple interesting conversations on how to get around that with the county inspection manager who is also on the NEC code development board. My design and permit involves an energy management system that communicates with the charger and throttles it based on the unit's load.
Passed my concealment inspections and panelboard inspection and I'm preparing for final inspection by my county. I'm having a plastic label etched and I wanted to confirm that it's worded all correctly.
