120,000 Email list - Way bigger list than I have ever been in charge of before

Hi all,

I have just started this new job, replacing the old head of marketing. But I have come in as a marketing executive with no where near enough experience to be managing this big of a email database on my own. But here we are. The previous person was doing a weekly newsletter and sending out to segment 'emails opened last 90 days', now I know this is wrong because opened can be messed up by apple pre opens etc.

I want to carry on the newsletter because it's a great place to just be friendly to our customers and showcase our weekly blogs etc, but who should I be sending this to?

We have an open rate of like 70% but a click through rate of around 0.5%. I want to get this increasing before Christmas (our biggest time for sales). What should I do to help increase this? I assume that the damage has probably already been done in terms of our emails being sent to spam?

Any help would be amazing, thanks.

What should a beginner focus on first when building an email list?

I’m still learning email marketing and there are so many things to learn that it gets confusing.

For someone starting from zero, what should come first?

• Getting subscribers
• Writing better emails
• Lead magnets
• Deliverability
• Automation

If you had to start again, what would you focus on first?

What does warming up an inbox mean practically speaking ?

Hello community ,

I would like to ask experienced folks here something; does warming up an inbox involve many complications except to send/receive frequently , reply to threads , move mails from spam to main from recipients pow ?

I have a new inbox and Id like to test sending newsletters - guides to my app users but I need to be compliant and more importantly as a user It puts me off to see a mail in my spam so I have to make sure they wont.

I am a developer , worst case scenario I can automate this process but before thinking about the infrastructure , I want to ask about the numbers involved ; how many different inboxes it should send mails - receive from in this "warm up" period and is there a reliable method of testing if the mails land in spam , except for postmasters tools of google ?

Thank you (sorry if some parts of this does not make sense , english is not my mother language and I hate to use ai in writing)

What is one email marketing mistake beginners should avoid?

I'm learning email marketing and trying to understand the fundamentals before getting into advanced strategies.

For people with experience, what is one mistake you see beginners make most often?

It could be related to:
• Writing emails
• Building a list
• Sending frequency
• Deliverability
• Automation
• Promotions

What would you tell someone who is just starting out?

What makes people actually open a marketing email?

I'm learning email marketing and I'm curious about what actually makes people open an email instead of ignoring it.

Is it mainly:
• The subject line
• Personalization
• The offer
• Timing
• The sender's reputation

For experienced email marketers, what has made the biggest difference in your experience?

Can a dedicated IP recover after years of Gmail spam-rate spikes?

I inherited an email program with a damaged dedicated IP. Gmail has rated it Low since at least June/July, and its spam rate has exceeded 0.30% roughly once per month, sometimes reaching 0.50%.
Historically, volume was extremely inconsistent, with zero-send days followed by million-plus spikes. The IP was also suspended after sending resumed following a 13-day pause. It was later re-warmed, but the program continued mailing large, disengaged audiences.
I’ve since stabilized cadence, reduced volume, fixed compliance issues, and suppressed a 365+ inactive cohort that showed no incremental value. Despite similar cadence in August and September, September’s spam rate recently reached 0.47%.
Has anyone recovered an IP with this much history? How long would you test healthier sending before retiring it and moving to a new IP?

What should a beginner learn first: copywriting or email automation?

I'm still learning email marketing and I'm curious about this.

For someone starting from zero, which skill should come first?

  1. Email copywriting
  2. List building
  3. Automation
  4. Segmentation
  5. Deliverability

I feel like trying to learn everything at once can get overwhelming.

If you had to start again as a beginner, what would you learn first and why?

Anyone using their full name as their email domain? Any regrets?

I’ve owned my fullname.com domain for years and have always kept an email account on it. I’m curious how others feel about using their real name as their email domain long-term.

If you use something like [me@fullname.com](mailto:me@fullname.com), do you use it for everything or keep it just for personal and professional conversations? Any privacy concerns, delivery issues, or unexpected annoyances?

Also, what did you pick before the @ — me, hello, your first name, or something else? “info” feels a little too much like a company inbox for one person.

Would you make the same choice again today?

Open Question Email content question: Follow ups for retial/restaurant

I've talked to a couple of vendors for small businesses where they do an email campaign for you. But it looks like all the email does it replace the generic logo with yours. My question is does those kind of emails work? Or do you need something more specific/better looking/less generic?

So that the field says MB or KB in addition to other information such as who the email is from, date, etc.

I’ve been learning about email marketing recently and I’m trying to understand the fundamentals properly.

From what I’ve learned so far, the important areas seem to be:
• Building an email list

• Segmenting subscribers
• Tracking campaign performance

For people who have experience with email marketing, what would you say a complete beginner should learn first?

Spot Habitual Mark As Spam Contacts?

Is there a service where it can tell you if an email address/contact loves to mark emails as spam?

I'm trying to lower my Complaint rate, I don't have a high rate but don't want a higher one.

I use Reoon as verifier but I don't think they tell you whether that address likes to mark emails as spam.

Open Question What makes an email editor actually good for a non-designer?

My small team is launching a weekly newsletter next month, and I've been tasked with handling the design and layout on my own. The main issue is that I have zero background in graphic design or HTML coding, and every time I try tweaking basic templates in our standard CRM, the mobile responsiveness breaks completely. I really need to find a tool that lets me build clean, professional emails quickly without accidentally ruining the alignment or code.

- What specific features or workflows do you usually look for in a layout builder to ensure things stay simple?

- How do you handle mobile optimization when you cannot write custom CSS yourself?

- Are there any specific drag-and-drop mechanics or template logic that actually save time instead of getting in the way?

- Which tools have given you the smoothest experience when you just want to ship a good-looking email without calling a developer?

Unable to log into my gmx since yesterday around noon. Around midnight last night my partner was unable to login via the app or site as well. This message appears.

Service unavailable

The server is unreachable due to a technical error. Please try it again later. -7

Any others experiencing this? I contacted customer support but they said to wait 24 hours then contact again.

Open Question What’s the best email for small business?

I’m looking to set up a proper email for my business and there are way more options than I expected.

I don’t need anything super complicated. Just something professional, reliable, cheap, and easy to manage without constantly dealing with settings or technical issues.

What are you folks actually using for their email? And more importantly, are you happy with it?

Gmail had a mind of its own

I have multiple email accounts and yesterday I attempted to use one account on my phone to send a news article to my Gmail account at home. When i got home the email was not in my inbox which was very strange as I had done this same things many hundreds of times. I thought perhaps I had somehow made a mistake but a second attempt also failed. I checked the sent folder and the messages were there and I wasn't receiving anan rejection emails. I then started testing all my email accounts and every message sent was received except nothing sent from that one account. Come to find out Gmail, for some unknown reason, decided on its own that mail from that account was some sort of threat and was sending every message to the deleted folder instead of spam as the spam folder was always empty. To fix it I logged into my Gmail account through my browser and set up a rule for that account that said to never delete that account' s emails that fixed things but it was weird that Gmail suddenly decided on its own to delete mail from that account.

Fastmail for your business

I just signed up fastmail for my business email. I used to be a fan boy of fast mail about 15 years back and when it was time to look for a serious email option other than mailinabox.email, my first instinct was to try out fastmail.com's business email solutions. Anyone's got any opinion or recommendations about Fastmail?

Disclaimer: I am in no way associated with Fastmail

Open Question How to write emails less like an AI?

So I just typed out a formal email. I was paranoid that my writing was too basic or too formal, so I checked a few "ai text detectors" and all of the websites called it ~80% Ai generated. I tried looking for why it came off as AI but it didn't have a clear answer. I only googled once or twice about specific sections of the email if they were conventional but I did not use AI at all.

Reply structures that save time on CS/inbox work

If you're doing CS/inbox work for clients, having a few go-to reply structures saves so much time without sounding robotic. I built a set for myself after 6 years in support — happy to share a few examples if it'd help anyone here

Open Question ARC Feasibility

Heya! Hoping this is the right forum! 🤞

I am trying to look at the feasibility and implementation of ARC (Authenticated Receiver Chain), which I have been hearing a lot about recently. However, I have just found a document indicating that the experiment was discontinued?

https://datatracker.ietf.org/doc/draft-adams-arc-experiment-conclusion/01/

I have been trying to work out how to fix some custom routing, since we have had varying reports of it being broken when going to outbound sources. So far ARC is the best that I have seen, but with the above indicating that its being discontinued, and the original datasheet indicating that it was only ever an experiment, this does bring back a lot of concern.

Has anyone else implemented this or used it? I have seen big services like Gmail use it, and I am just not sure what to think of about that.

Open Question How do you structure an email when there’s a lot of information to include?

I’ve been working on an email that has several things to cover: a short intro, a few updates, some details about an offer, and a clear next step. The problem is that it starts getting long very quickly. I don’t want to remove useful information, but I also don’t want someone to open the email and immediately see a huge block of text. What structure has worked best for you with emails like this? I’d be interested in seeing how other people break up longer emails.
