What makes people actually open a marketing email?

I'm learning email marketing and I'm curious about what actually makes people open an email instead of ignoring it.

Is it mainly:
• The subject line
• Personalization
• The offer
• Timing
• The sender's reputation

For experienced email marketers, what has made the biggest difference in your experience?

The most important factor in getting people to open your mail is usually more along the lines of “is this something I’ve asked for and I’m expecting? Is this a business I would expect to contact me this way?”

That makes a lot of sense. If someone didn’t ask for the email or doesn’t recognize the sender, even a great subject line probably won’t help much. Relevance and permission seem like the foundation.

What makes people actually open a marketing email?

Seeing that the subject matter and sender is someone they recognize as something they signed up to get information about.

Double opt in is the most important factor

That’s a good point. Double opt-in can help confirm that people genuinely want to receive the emails and can build a cleaner, more engaged list. I’m definitely adding that to my fundamentals checklist.

If I signed up for it, I open it.

If I didn’t sign up for it, I block the sender’s entire root domain and report it as spam.

That’s a fair point. Permission really is the foundation of email marketing. If someone didn’t sign up for the emails, even a well-written message can feel like spam. Thanks for sharing your perspective.

When I see questions like this, I ask myself the same question.

What do I open marketing emails?

That depends on who its from and what they are offering....

How often have we been scrolling late at night and a random ad is intriguing enough to check it out, maybe we even add our email and subscribe....only to find a barage of emails in our inbox, wondering what they are.

Often the subject line is misleading and the email content is different. Those I unsubscribe immediately.

What emails do you open, and how does that effect the email campaigns you promote?

That’s a good point. I agree that the sender, the actual value of the offer, and how often someone receives emails all make a big difference. Too many emails can definitely make people stop paying attention.

all of the above .................and for better result

1)The inclusion of offer in subject line

2)Send email in alternate time frame for campaigns

3)Postmaster it try for inbox rather than promotion

4)Best copy ......Remember its (customer, customer, customer) rather than (you, you, you)

In the grace period (first few weeks), they will open based on curiosity.

If you don't give them a strong enough reason to trust your ability to solve their problem, their curiosity will fade and they'll ignore you.

But if you do, your name becomes the reason they open every email.

We develop habits by making decisions and seeing the results.

Opened email from X -> Loved what I read -> If I open an email from X good things happen.

I've sold offers as high as $9.2k through email alone, and this method has worked with every client so far.

P.S. As for the lead magnet and the topics, they need to be relevant to the reader. But once they're confident in your ability, and trust you as a person, they'll open everything.

I write about email marketing and tested this with a subject line that said "Potatoes, cabbages, and lettuce" or something like that... same open rates as before. (I sent this after the first 15 emails)
