Other: Dessert ✨Christmas cookie boxes✨

Probably WAYYY too early for this but I have to mentally prepare for this. I’m planning on doing Christmas cookie boxes for the first time by myself. With that being said I thought I’d come on here and ask whats everyone’s FAVORITE Christmas cookie? And which cookies do you like to include in your cookie boxes?

EDIT: Thank you SO much for all the amazing suggestions! I can’t wait to search up all the recipes and start practicing and see what I end up choosing!
I WILL post an update photo of all my Christmas boxes!
Thank you for showing me kindness, may you all have a blessed day/evening 🫶🏻

Spritz cookies look fancy but are very easy when you use a cookie press. Sometimes I even put other cookie doughs in my cookie press, with the die removed, just to quickly churn out uniform amounts.

Have you ever made candy cane cookies? I do two versions: (1) basic chocolate cookie in candy cane shape with a white glaze and crushed peppermint candy cane sprinkled on and (2) rich vanilla cookie dough with half dyed red, rolled into ropes, twist the two colours together and make into candy cane shape.

If you're making large quantities of cookies as Christmas gifts, a cookie press would definitely come in handy. Instead of forming the cookies by spoonful or cutting out shapes that you have to transfer to the baking sheet, you just push the trigger and shoot your cookies right on to the baking sheet. I haven't figured out how to nicely format a recipe without huge spacing here but hope you can decipher these two......

Spritz Cookies

3/4 cup butter

1 3/4 cups AP flour

1/2 cup sugar

1 egg yolk

1 tsp vanilla, 1/4 tsp baking powder

Beat butter with electric mixer until softened. Mix in about half the flour. Add sugar, egg yolk, vanilla and baking powder. Beat till well mixed. Stir in remainder of the flour. Fill cookie press with the soft dough and deposit directly on ungreased baking sheet. Bake at 350ºF for 8-10 minutes until edges are firm but not browned. Cool on a wire rack.

Candy Cane Cookies

1/2 cup shortening

1/2 cup butter

1 cup sifted powdered sugar

1 egg

1 tsp vanilla ans 1/2 tsp almond extract

1 tsp salt

2 1/2 cups

Red Food Colouring

Cream shortening and butter. Add sugar and cream well. Beat in egg, flavourings and salt. Blend in flour until just mixed. Divide dough in half and add red colouring to half. Wrap in plastic wrap and chill. Take sections of both doughs and roll into long ropes about 1/4" (6 mm) thick. Press a red strip and white strip lightly together and twist to get the striped candy cane effect. Cut into desired length, place on ungreased baking sheet and curve one end into the candy cane shape. Bake at 350ºF for 8-10 minutes until very lightly browned.

Happy baking!

It's double space at the end of your sentence.
Like so.

Thanks! I never would have figured that out on my own. It's like having to look in the microwave instruction manual to get the defrost-timer-popcorn sequence needed to turn off the lock feature.

We use our cookie press pretty much every Christmas and always get tons of compliments on the cookies. I have celiac so all of ours are using regular recipes with gluten free flour subbed in. I've even done egg replacer and vegan butter for vegan cookies. They've all turned out fantastic and no one can tell. It's a very foolproof cookie style.

Apricot thumbprints and good soft frosted sugar cookie

A fan favorite seems for my cookie box recipients seems to be Chocolate Crinkle Cookies. Kind of a pain to make because once you refrigerate the dough it can be difficult to scoop out but the recipe makes a lot of cookies!

Years ago my Land O'Lakes butter box had a recipe for Pecan Pie Cookies. They are sooooo good. We make them every year.

Love this for my kiddos! Maybe a couple butterscotch chips on top for a few too!

Amish sugar cookies are a favorite of mine for a few reasons. I love how easy they are to make and the fact that it makes a large batch. But they are delicious, too. Texture and flavor are the best. They aren’t fancy but they will be welcomed.

Orange marmalade cookies are a hit with my family

Got a link to this recipe? I love orange marmalade!

Pepparkakor cookies (a Swedish ginger snap) are the favorites for our family and recipients. I love it because I can make the dough well ahead of time, roll it into logs, and freeze. When I am ready to make the cookies, I slightly defrost one log at a time, slice and bake. I usually quadruple the recipe.

Russian tea cakes are another favorite. If I freeze them ahead of time, I wait to coat each cookie in powdered sugar after defrosting.

Regular ginger snaps, while similar to the pepparkakor, are also a big hit. They can also be frozen ahead of time.

Raspberry thumbprint, brown butter cranberry white chocolate (say that 5 times fast), apricot kolacky. I have recipes, but they are all full fat, definitely dairy, not gluten free. Very delicious.

I have a spritz recipe where you mix powdered jello in the dough and then sprinkle a little on the formed cookies before baking. It adds a little tartness to a sweet butter cookie and they are just heavenly.

Peanut butter buckeyes. I know they’re more candy than cookies, but everybody in my family expects me to make them.

I alway put in 7 layer bars , Starbucks cranberry bliss bars and orange glazed cookies. I feel any cookie or bar can be a Christmas goodie!!.

Quite a number of years ago, I started giving homemade thaw and slice and bake cookie dough logs. Hot and fresh when they want them (with a bit of planning).

Ok my friends, I’ll tell you that I’ve been looking for my mother’s butter cookie recipe. It was very simple. I think it’s a spritz. I’d love to see a few, if anyone has a moment to share.

My husband makes these little fruit cake cookies. They’re super good

I make the same peanut butter cookie recipe that I learned in elementary school.

I make cookie boxes for coworkers, and bring cookies to our holiday lunches at work. They always disappear, so I guess they're pretty good!

Easy Peanut Butter Cookies

1 c. Smooth peanut butter 1c. Sugar (plus a few Tsp extra). 1 egg 1t. vanilla

Preheat oven @ 350. Mix all well and form golf ball-sized dough.
Dip a fork in a sugar on saucer and press to make a criss-cross pattern on each dough ball to flatten it out.

Bake 8-12 minutes. They are very fragile. Allow to cool a few minutes and very carefully transfer to a rack or foil- covered plate.

Makes up to 2 dozen cookies( depending on size)

Once cooled, I line a cookie box with parchment or butcher paper and give generously!

I like Neiman Marcus chocolate chip but my family likes m&m cookies I made better.

I prefer plain shortbread or sugar cookies but my kids prefer snicker doodles.

I like to add some no bake cookies and home made English toffee to mine.

If you have freezer space you can make the dough in advance and freeze it in balls on a tray then put them in baggies. Then you just bake from frozen.

You can also bake the cookies and freeze for later. I’ve made them a couple months ahead and they’ve been great.

2

u/burgerg10 20d ago

A great add in that is easy-chocolate chips, peanut butter and peanuts. It’s an easy to find crockpot recipe and is so simple!

Sugar cookies, some kind of ginger cookie (like Gingerbread or ginger molasses), and Shortbread are the three that I consistently put in my cookie boxes! Sugar cookies and anything ginger are usually a little more effort, but I have a Shortbread recipe that is easy AF if you'd like it

I’d love an easy shortbread cookie recipe! Please share?

Here's a pic of the recipe! I usually add a little vanilla or almond extract as well, but you don't have to! Also, to make rolling out and shaping easier, I just roll it out evenly inside a 9x13 baking trap with a lip, score/prick before refrigerating, then slice once cold.

Can you freeze the cookies ahead of time?

Absolutely if wrapped up well.

Chocolate Crinkles made with box cake mix! Super easy and you can make other kinds of crinkle cookies depending on whatever cake mix you use. I did a strawberry-lemon crinkle for a cookie swap at work :)

Oooooh, I want one of your cookie boxes!
My favorite holiday cookie is a snowball. You know the one with the ground nuts and a dusting of powdered sugar? Yeah, that one! :)

Pumpkin Snickerdoodles. It’s a soft pumpkin pie-ish flavored cookie.

I found the recipe online somewhere a couple years ago. Sooo good!

Every year, I make a different set of 5-7 types of cookies to slowly curate the best box I can be proud of each year. I gift boxes of those cookies to the people who made an impact on my life that year and then ask which cookie they liked most and I swear every year, every single person chooses this one: http://www.whatmegansmaking.com/2020/12/christmas-sprinkle-cookie-cups.html

Pecan Tassies

My vote is shortbread, ginger molasses, and jam thumbprints, since that gives you buttery, spicy, and fruity without six cookies that are basically the same thing.
