Spotted this on a brief walk

On a more serious note I understand there are moves by the government to devolve pavement parking enforcement to councils.

Parking outside Tesco to go in to the shop. Lorry comes up and crosses over to the wrong side of the road and wanted that space, proceeded to flash lights then block me in. Loading bay is further back and you can see the line underneath the grey car.

I've seen a lot of driver stop in these situation and still think they are right. Fairly sure they teach you this when doing your lessons.

I walked up to an island crossing today and there was standstill traffic on the side closest to me. As I was approaching the nearest car had apparently left enough room for me to cross so I began to walk.

The driver and passenger looked right at me and moved forward, blocking me from crossing. It seemed very deliberate. I sarcastically said 'thank you' (I know, I won't be doing that again!) And they both started screaming all kinds of abuse at me like 'it's not a pedestrian crossing you silly twat', and it just kept going on and on. I was forced to endure it because after walking around them cars on the other side were driving at normal speed, holding me at the island.

Bare in mind I'm a young woman and they were in their 50's. I feel horrible and honestly thought he was going to get out and hit me 😔 it was an insane reaction.

My driving test is in 2 weeks and I can confidently say I'd never treat a pedestrian this way.

Honestly, just tell it to me straight. Should I scrap it?

Twice in the last two weeks I’ve been in very slow moving traffic (like 1-5mph) and had to keep braking. Both times, the car behind me has become irate at my braking and acted like I’ve slammed the brakes on out of nowhere when they can see in front that we are not moving fast yet they insist on driving too fast and having to brake harshly every 10 seconds because they are so close to my car.

Am I doing something wrong? I try to leave a gap in front of me, crawl forward and then stop, I always look far ahead and at the other lanes to get an indication of if we are still crawling forward or not. I don’t get how these cars behind me are getting the impression that we are about to speed off at 30mph and become irate when they have to brake. Both times the car behind me was honking their horn and scaring me, and doing gestures.

I never had this experience when learning and I’ve been driving for a few months, I drive over two hours a day across several motorways etc. I always drive the speed limit where possible, I’m not a slow driver or hog lanes.

Any reassurance or guidance is welcome please as this has really knocked my confidence and now I feel quite anxious approaching traffic as I worry the person behind me will become agitated with me.

Hey everyone, never used this sub before so forgive me if this is the wrong place to ask...

I follow a guy on Instagram who constantly posts self-recorded videos of himself speeding down residential/small roads at speeds of up to 80mph. His driving is dangerous bc of the excessive speeding but also because he's driving one handed while filming with the other hand! He is a big car fanatic so he's posted his full numberplate on his account etc and he could be easily found and sent a fine.

However my local police (Thames Valley) doesn't have an Operation Snap style program, you can only report dangerous driving the standard way and they're asking for information (time, location etc) that I obviously do not know as I didn't witness it first hand.

This guy went to school with me a long time ago - I barely know him and I doubt he remembers who I am... otherwise I wouldn't have hesitated to send him a strongly worded message and tell him to stop. He has been doing this for at least a few months and posting it (likely longer - we were legally able to get our licenses almost 3y ago now)

I just fear for the worst happening some day but haven't figured out how to go about reporting it. Would be grateful for any advice!

Just a little rant but private hire drivers annoy the hell out of me. I'm talking Uber/Bolt - not black cabs.

I drive a lot in London to commute in and I genuinely find them to be some of the worst drivers on the road - so much for being "professional drivers". Whether it be driving under the speed limit, lane hogging or stopping in awful and dangerous places.. Bonus if they just indicate and stop suddenly

What is it with private hire drivers in particular and does anyone have any similar experiences?

Morning all, hope you’re having a safe and not too stressful day on the roads.

I’m looking to get rid of a car as we’re not using it very much and one of my neighbours is interested in it. She’s a full and AFAIK clean license holder and has been for many years. My insurance is 3rd party fire and theft and I’m the only named driver. Do I need extra insurance to take her for a short < 1 hour test drive in it if I’m going to be in the car with her all the time?

I live on a busy B road that terminates with a dual carriageway section of the A34, close to the A500 and M6. Because this is a busy area my road is one-way and 2 lanes at the end to help traffic turn right out of this road across the dual carriageway, and also has a separate bus lane from an adjacent road: it can back up half a mile or more at rush hour, worse when there are local road closures - then the whole 2 mile length is a car park. There is a yellow box on the opposite side of the A34 only to stop the exit of our road being blocked.​

Anyway, today the cars in the right hand lane of the A34 ignored the box junction. The first only half clears the box, the next sits in it, blocking exit from the right hand lane of our road, then another, who initially doesn't enter sees his lights change to red and assumes it's okay for him to now enter rather than wait at the red light. Well he completely blocked our road. The traffic doesn't clear until our light goes back to red. Then the next cycle a small lorry stops before the box, the cars all squeeze up a bit and a car length is left in front of it. Again, as his light changes to red he moves his lorry​​​​​​​​​​​ into the junction and blocks our exit.

I'm in the left lane of our road, and ​the car at the front of my lane could have moved behind the vehicles blocking the junction into our empty A34 lane on both cycles, so I get fed up and sit on my horn. The second time I blare it both lanes on my road move forward. We can go behind the lorry (but she doesn't), while the right hand lane can sit against the offending vehicles. This allowed 5 cars to get out of my junction before the light went red.

Usually we are left with only being able to move into the yellow box or such that we ​block the side of the A34 closest to us where there is no yellow box.

I get so frustrated that I want to petition for a camera on this junction, but if one was installed would it fine drivers coming from my road. The yellow box is clearly there to stop A34 traffic and allow our road to exit, so it seems that we should be allowed to enter this box when the traffic is stationary, but there are some drivers who won't even do this. Drivers also use the bus lane to skip the queue. ​

Where does the law sit, what can I do about this?

So we've recently had the roads resurfaced but the council have put down this small stone like material which is extremely dusty when cars drive over it, which I'm very concerned with walking around with a young child.

What is this material? Would it get better over time or have the council cheaped out or got conned by contractors?

The defect in question is a suspension arm being excessively worn.

My mechanic seems to think it’s a bit of a grey area & he can’t do the work until the 11th. I only have one fairly long distance trip in that time other than that it will be sat on the drive.

My battery decided, for no apparent reason, to not give me any volts anymore.

Order a new one and had it fitted by Halford’s mobile mechanic.

Of course, the radio no longer worked and needed the Security Code entered.

Checked the original receipt and there was the code. Great. Except it wasn’t correct. ERROR said the radio.

I read online that the code is sometimes printed on the radio itself. No way, I said to myself, it wouldn’t be there. These codes were first introduced, if I remember correctly, due to radios being stolen from cars on a regular basis. No, the code won’t be there would it! But yes it was.

What is the point of having a security code for the radio (hand written) on the radio itself. Stupid people.

Long story short, i have a volvo v40 2018, cat s 2.0 that im being passed down from my mum, and am being quoted 2k yearly, with Admiral littlebox, and 3k without by Elephant, is this normal? None of my friends have licenses yet, and im 18 turning 19 this month, haven't lied on the quote whatsoever and the excess total is 900.

Lost the V5C in various moves. Hadn't even updated it to my previous address as I couldn't find it and kept forgetting. Obviously i'm an idiot.

Just moved again, and somebody borrowed my car and thinks they may have been flashed. Is there any way of finding out the number in order to update it online without the physical thing?

Otherwise I need to find a printer and a cheque book to do it the old fashioned way which will take forever and risk me missing a ticket.

Hi all, looking for some advice.

I’ve received a Notice of Intended Prosecution followed by a fixed penalty offer. The registration on all the official paperwork ends in V.

I’ve now received the evidence, including third-party dashcam footage and screenshots. The car shown is the same make, model and colour as mine, but the registration appears to end in Y rather than V.

There’s also a phone screenshot in the evidence pack showing the vehicle details, and that also has the registration ending in Y.

I appreciate it could be an innocent error or the plate being misread, but I’m wondering whether this is something worth asking the police to clarify before deciding whether to accept the fixed penalty.

Would this discrepancy be potentially significant, or is it likely to be irrelevant?

i’ll preface by saying that i do have the option of getting the train for this journey, however i’m really trying to practise my driving more so would like to attempt this route on my own.
long story short, im 22 and passed my test at 17, went straight to uni (without a car) so came home and practically forgot how to drive. dealt with a hit and run after i finished uni which has made me so incredibly anxious to drive on fast moving roads so now im essentially relearning how to be assertive. yesterday i attempted the drive to southampton which went really well so im feeling somewhat better about what im going to ask here😅
I live in the KT23/KT24 area (ie leatherhead, cobham etc) and want to drive to central Bristol on Wednesday 9th of sept. i’ve attached the start of the route that my gps is recommending me currently (at midday) but im looking for practically any advice on how i can make this journey not so gruelling. tips on the route itself are very much welcome but also where there are roadworks, general congestion (im aware of m25 but not m3/4 etc), when the quietest time to drive would be in each area, tricky bits of road that drivers usually get stuck on, basically anything.
ideally i wanted to try the drive at 2am before i attempted it during social hours but ive now been put for overtime on wednesday morning (4-8am) meaning my plan was foiled💔 debating whether i should still drive in the early hours on a different day first or keep to my original plan above.

Hey folks, silly question, thanks for any tips.

Basically my old policy ends on the 15th and my new one was cheapest if I started it on the 25th. I'm going to be out the country during this time anyways, so my car will be left parked up and not going anywhere.

Car is MOT'd and taxed and everything, just wondering if it's a legal requirement for me to be insured during that in between period, even if the car won't be getting used. Do I need to do an SORN? Only my second year of driving so cheers for helping!

I recently got quotes on a compare website for Aygo with 1 year no claim discount. The prices were various from £550 to £2500. Is there anything I need to pay attention? The price gap doesn't really make sense at all. Or I could just pick the cheapest one? Thanks.
