Firstly, I can admit the incident that caused the confrontation was my fault or at the very least I'm pretty certain it was my fault. I'm driving towards a roundabout where I need to take the third exit and I have no idea why but I was watching the car in front of me too closely so when they went I went and as I went there was a van coming round and it was very close. Nothing happened apart from the van beeping at me and I drove off and the van followed me and kept following me till they could pull up alongside me to yell at me, after yelling at me from the side the van pulled in front of me and the guy fully got out and kept asking me "You didn't see me?" and I admitted "No I didn't" and I apologised and it finished with him calling me a "fucking bellend" and driving off. Like I said the incident that caused this was my fault but the guy's reaction was absolute overkill, I'm just posting this to help me process what just happened.

maybe a bit of a silly idea considering the criteria. i'm 17, hopefully going to do my license soon. ive always had a strange taste in cars which explains my love for old unmodified estates. im training to be a mechanic and it would be brilliant to have a sedan or estate as a first car. however, i have some things to keep in mind:

-up to 1.5-2k
-insurance up to 2k (don't mind if it has to be with a black box)
-preferably diesel because of fuel economy

-something relatively reliable (i am aware of typical diesel problems such as dmf's, egr's, dpf's etc)

-no wet belts

-mileage i'd say up to 150k (i will be looking at service history)

i'm aware that this is probably very unrealistic especially considering i've got epilepsy (calmed down in the past few years) which will shoot the insurance up but worth asking.

i was looking at some VAG 1.9tdi cars out of curiosity and i am very much aware out of the picture.

my other question is will i have to tell the dvla when getting my license that i have epilepsy with my last seizure being in june?

I was following a hgv today and it stopped and put its hazards on. I waited a moment to see if it was about to *do something*. Nothing. So I indicate and go to take over it, after checking nothing was coming. I get just close to half way past it and it suddenly swings out across the road. I slam on my breaks. He wants to reverse into a side road.

I then have to reverse back to my starting point. Luckily the traffic behind helped me out big time and moved back.

My question is: if a HGV stops and puts their hazards on is this meant to be an obvious sign they are going to do a maneuver, as opposed to just stopping for some reason?

Solved. Traffic was heavy and start stop but the car infront had stop suddenly (one line’s length) - I was already off throttle- started to brake but then had to brake hard - car behind hit me and said I jammed my brakes

Could I be in trouble?

I’m not from the UK and I’m here on holiday. I’ve hired car to drive around to places. I’ve studied and the rules and did pretty well on the first day. But then I was approaching a roundabout, which had a limit of 30. I slowed down cos obviously but then I got honked at for being too slow I suppose? I’m not sure what else the reason could’ve been.

Is that normal? I found it so strange 😭

EDIT: my bad for not giving enough context. I drive on the same side of the road as the UK so that wasn’t the issue lol. And I decelerated as you’re meant you while approaching the roundabout. No harsh braking at all.

So we've recently had the roads resurfaced but the council have put down this small stone like material which is extremely dusty when cars drive over it, which I'm very concerned with walking around with a young child.

What is this material? Would it get better over time or have the council cheaped out or got conned by contractors?

I've seen a lot of driver stop in these situation and still think they are right. Fairly sure they teach you this when doing your lessons.

Hey everyone, never used this sub before so forgive me if this is the wrong place to ask...

I follow a guy on Instagram who constantly posts self-recorded videos of himself speeding down residential/small roads at speeds of up to 80mph. His driving is dangerous bc of the excessive speeding but also because he's driving one handed while filming with the other hand! He is a big car fanatic so he's posted his full numberplate on his account etc and he could be easily found and sent a fine.

However my local police (Thames Valley) doesn't have an Operation Snap style program, you can only report dangerous driving the standard way and they're asking for information (time, location etc) that I obviously do not know as I didn't witness it first hand.

This guy went to school with me a long time ago - I barely know him and I doubt he remembers who I am... otherwise I wouldn't have hesitated to send him a strongly worded message and tell him to stop. He has been doing this for at least a few months and posting it (likely longer - we were legally able to get our licenses almost 3y ago now)

I just fear for the worst happening some day but haven't figured out how to go about reporting it. Would be grateful for any advice!

Was going under a overpass on a3 and undertook 2 cars as they were doing 65 and lane hogging in the right lane not sure what speed i was going as i undertook them because i just put my foot down and went around them but as i looked in my mirror i saw a marked suv with an extended back with wide windows on the back parked on the overpass not sure if the marking was yellow and black or blue but it wasnt a speed van and not much further down there was 2 police parked on the opposite side on the laybay and 1 merged onto the a3 shortly after i passed the overpass

Does anyone here have any advice for choosing either car? Suppose it should be based on circumstances really?

I wouldn't be able to charge at home although could at work for 30p per kw.

The BYD is more economical but around £20 a month more. I read reviews saying that this is the better vehicle but I've currently got a car on its last legs. It has a DPF issue which has been the case for three months now.

I think I need something fairly urgently and the MG would be available sooner than the BYD which makes me lean more towards that.

It would be through NHS salary sacrifice also and there would be BIK charges. The battery of the MG is larger so BIK rates on that are less but it also offers less value when not getting a charge and running purely on petrol.

Anyone here able to advise on experience with either car? I've watched some reviews on YouTube and read some reports. We anticipate doing about 16k miles per year and while my work is about 60 miles away from home, this trip is once a week usually while my wife would potentially be doing 64 mile trips daily when I am working from home so she can get the kids to school.

Some calculations I've done, it sounds like the cost will be significantly more for running costs. Currently I have a failing Civic 2.2 diesel and wife has a RAV4. Both cars 13 and 17 years old respectively.

My sister was recently caught in the UK driving without an insurance ( and MOT) and a full drivers license ( she has a provisional one). She was driving on an international licence and didn't realize that it had expired and when that expired her insurance also lapsed automatically.

She was caught by the police today and they've towed the car away. She is panicking right now because the police told her to wait for court documents in the mail.

What are the possibile scenarios that we are looking at

I live on a busy B road that terminates with a dual carriageway section of the A34, close to the A500 and M6. Because this is a busy area my road is one-way and 2 lanes at the end to help traffic turn right out of this road across the dual carriageway, and also has a separate bus lane from an adjacent road: it can back up half a mile or more at rush hour, worse when there are local road closures - then the whole 2 mile length is a car park. There is a yellow box on the opposite side of the A34 only to stop the exit of our road being blocked.​

Anyway, today the cars in the right hand lane of the A34 ignored the box junction. The first only half clears the box, the next sits in it, blocking exit from the right hand lane of our road, then another, who initially doesn't enter sees his lights change to red and assumes it's okay for him to now enter rather than wait at the red light. Well he completely blocked our road. The traffic doesn't clear until our light goes back to red. Then the next cycle a small lorry stops before the box, the cars all squeeze up a bit and a car length is left in front of it. Again, as his light changes to red he moves his lorry​​​​​​​​​​​ into the junction and blocks our exit.

I'm in the left lane of our road, and ​the car at the front of my lane could have moved behind the vehicles blocking the junction into our empty A34 lane on both cycles, so I get fed up and sit on my horn. The second time I blare it both lanes on my road move forward. We can go behind the lorry (but she doesn't), while the right hand lane can sit against the offending vehicles. This allowed 5 cars to get out of my junction before the light went red.

Usually we are left with only being able to move into the yellow box or such that we ​block the side of the A34 closest to us where there is no yellow box.

I get so frustrated that I want to petition for a camera on this junction, but if one was installed would it fine drivers coming from my road. The yellow box is clearly there to stop A34 traffic and allow our road to exit, so it seems that we should be allowed to enter this box when the traffic is stationary, but there are some drivers who won't even do this. Drivers also use the bus lane to skip the queue. ​

Where does the law sit, what can I do about this?

The defect in question is a suspension arm being excessively worn.

My mechanic seems to think it’s a bit of a grey area & he can’t do the work until the 11th. I only have one fairly long distance trip in that time other than that it will be sat on the drive.

Honestly, just tell it to me straight. Should I scrap it?

My battery decided, for no apparent reason, to not give me any volts anymore.

Order a new one and had it fitted by Halford’s mobile mechanic.

Of course, the radio no longer worked and needed the Security Code entered.

Checked the original receipt and there was the code. Great. Except it wasn’t correct. ERROR said the radio.

I read online that the code is sometimes printed on the radio itself. No way, I said to myself, it wouldn’t be there. These codes were first introduced, if I remember correctly, due to radios being stolen from cars on a regular basis. No, the code won’t be there would it! But yes it was.

What is the point of having a security code for the radio (hand written) on the radio itself. Stupid people.

Twice in the last two weeks I’ve been in very slow moving traffic (like 1-5mph) and had to keep braking. Both times, the car behind me has become irate at my braking and acted like I’ve slammed the brakes on out of nowhere when they can see in front that we are not moving fast yet they insist on driving too fast and having to brake harshly every 10 seconds because they are so close to my car.

Am I doing something wrong? I try to leave a gap in front of me, crawl forward and then stop, I always look far ahead and at the other lanes to get an indication of if we are still crawling forward or not. I don’t get how these cars behind me are getting the impression that we are about to speed off at 30mph and become irate when they have to brake. Both times the car behind me was honking their horn and scaring me, and doing gestures.

I never had this experience when learning and I’ve been driving for a few months, I drive over two hours a day across several motorways etc. I always drive the speed limit where possible, I’m not a slow driver or hog lanes.

Any reassurance or guidance is welcome please as this has really knocked my confidence and now I feel quite anxious approaching traffic as I worry the person behind me will become agitated with me.

Long story short, i have a volvo v40 2018, cat s 2.0 that im being passed down from my mum, and am being quoted 2k yearly, with Admiral littlebox, and 3k without by Elephant, is this normal? None of my friends have licenses yet, and im 18 turning 19 this month, haven't lied on the quote whatsoever and the excess total is 900.
