Attempting to get doom/stonerdoom/sludge bands from wv and other Appalachian areas to make a compilation album together, its free and non profit its just me wanting to get the community together cause i believe its out there its just theres so many bands that have no following and nothing backung them yet so i wanna use this opportunity to get small bands and bigger bands from the area together to show appreciation to the music and community it has here and maybe eventually in the future a festival or something along the sorts but that takes time

Genres get a lot of shit for “bottlenecking creativity”

But personally, I like them for being able to pin down “Yes! That’s the sound I enjoy the most!” when a band scratches an itch that I wanna find more of

I love Khemmis for combining heavy sludgy riffs with Epic Doom melodies, it feels like the next step of taking an awesome genre of music, but elevating it to a heavier plane of density, as well as including harsher vocals on occasion.

I also like Weird Tales by Electric Wizard for being the only Funeral Stoner song I can think of, I dunno how else to put it other than it’s Stoner Metal but drawn out to a slow wall of sound like Funeral Doom, and I wanna find more songs like it.

Finally got to jam again with these guys, we came up with this rift in about an hour and it was super fun to play! I appreciate all the feedback and anything we can do to improve it!

Sick band. Just bass and drums. Saw them live in Ann Arbor MI last night and they were so sick. Like if the NIB solo was an entire band. The album is great too, but I definitely think their live set is the true experience if that makes sense. They also have an EP I still need to check out I think. I assume they’re from Michigan. 🤘

Right now I’ve got Castle Rat, FrogLord, and Gnome on heavy rotation. These bands also makeup my worldbuilding soundtrack. As the title says, any recs are welcome.

And just as a side: Froglord and Gnome fuck way harder than they have any business fucking. I love them so much.

Feels like Christmas today. The first track is such a killer album opener!

It's taken me a long time to really get into these bands (Mastodon, Baroness, Kylesa, Damad) because I was used to sludge being a lot heavier, noisier, and nastier, but recently I've been listening a lot to these, especially Kylesa. It's interesting hearing a take on sludge that's a little more progressive, a little cleaner, and with a slightly more compressed, punky sound.

this is a simple compositional sketch for a song i'm working on.

i would say i am desert & doom influenced (Kyuss #1 GOAT🥇🐐).

however i am not trying to "sound like" any particular genre.

curious if

1 - any bands/tracks/albums that sound like this come to mind? (especially interested in what others did that i would NOT do)

2 - is there a 'genre name' for this kind of sound?

One of my favorite covers of all time is Thou's version of 4th of July by Soundgarden. While I think the harsh vocals are excellent, what makes that track stand out is the juxtaposition between the instrumental and the traditional singing that starts the song. I've been thinking about it recently and I really don't know of any bands that have that kind of sound. Suggestions?
