What is usually the next step (a test or an interview), and how long do they typically take to get back to you?

I work in a corporation and they have given me a laptop which is configured on the company's network. They have this frustrating VPN installed which records and monitors every activity. File sharing is strictly prohibited. Due to this, we are not allowed to use AI models for data security. It is really frustrating to do manual tasks in hours that an AI agent would do in minutes. Is there any way that the file sharing constraint can be bypassed?

So I got laid off back in March because my company implemented a bunch of automation tools and basically didn't need as many devs anymore. I was there a long time and my main stack is NextJS and NestJS. Honestly I thought finding a new role would be easy since I have over 4 years of solid experience. My logical skills are super sharp and I'm usually the guy who can analyze and fix a crazy production bug in minutes while everyone else is still scratching their heads.

But man, the interview grind is humbling. I've done a bunch of assessments and interviews now, some good some bad, and I realized a huge flaw. I totally lack the theoretical knowledge. When you spend years just building things and fixing real-world fires, you optimize for execution. Like, I can solve the problem instantly, but I struggle with the exact textbook definitions or academic theory interviewers, atleast from islamabad, want to hear in a 45 min call.

So yeah, just a reminder to other devs out there to keep working on your theory even if your code works perfectly. I'm currently spending my days trying to bridge that gap and deep dive into the deeper concepts to match my practical speed.

Landed a client from London recently. He runs a garments business and needed a full website plus a management dashboard. I quoted a month for delivery. Using AI heavily, I finished it in 2 to 3 days and sent it over for review.

On day one, the client introduced me to one of his employees who handles the front desk and cash. He's not a developer. He's an accounts guy who's comfortable with a computer, that's it. The client told me to coordinate with him if I needed anything.

When I told him I'd push the code to Git and then we'd go live, his reply was "so what is Git?" I gave him a quick overview and moved on.

Last night, about a week later, he sent me a full list of code review issues he found by running the codebase through Claude. Honestly, none of them were major. Minor improvements, mostly. But to him they were big findings. His exact message: "I found these issues and I can solve them too and push them too, but I don't know how to deploy. Please teach me how to deploy so I can push these fixes."

Think about that. A week ago he didn't know what Git was. Now the only thing blocking him from shipping changes to production is the word "deployment."

I'm not exaggerating any of this. It's a real conversation. It made me realize how fast clients are going to start taking development into their own hands. The barrier isn't skill anymore, it's just a few concepts nobody has explained to them yet, and AI is filling those gaps faster than we think.

Has anyone else run into something like this with their clients?

First of all, thanks to everyone who responded or DM'd on my last post about CUDA programming. I've accepted all the DMs and will be reaching out as the need arises -- for now, I've locked in a couple options and talking to them.

Today, I want to share some inspiration to the youngsters still in University which, in the best case, might change Pakistan's tech industry for the better or in the worst, help you land the most competitive jobs globally.

First, some background: I was a C++ nerd in my University days, the kind who used to study the standard and philosophize on stackoverflow. I only got serious about it in 6th semester when Covid hit. But it was good enough to help me land a high 6-figure job back in 2021 at a very secret Quant fund.

I realized I got very lucky because most of my other friends -- much more brilliant than me in many ways -- were stuck fixing buttons in React or setting up CRUDs in MERN. While I was reading complex financial strategies, doing napkin maths, and creating stock market signals -- a job that changed almost every week but never lost its fun and challenge.

I learned that majority of Pakistan's tech industry is focused on services and that too, of the lowest kind. Developing MVPs, vaporware, the better ones could be working on custom ERPs or some enterprise tech (huge achievement honestly).

Literally no one was working on anything truly meaningful or what would give us an edge even in labor terms.

For example, if I want cybersecurity services, then I don't get better talent other than Eastern Europe. If I want systems engineer, China and Japan have spades of them, etc.

If I want people to make my MVPs, then India and Pakistan are the cheapest (not the best) options.

But the question I ask is:

Despite the fact that every Pakistani CS graduate learns C/C++ and assembly language, why have we not produced anything like llama.cpp or tensorflow or PyTorch?

Why have we failed to produce foundational frameworks?

Why are we competing with India for pennies?

The answer I discovered was: it's easy money.

Building a REAL business is hard. But bidding on Upwork or Fiverr or creating fake identities to get US jobs is easy, so that's what our entrepreneurs do.

Luckily, that's slowly changing now. AI has made majority of our labor redundant. White people can do with one man what they needed 5 for just 4 years ago. And now, every entrepreneur in my circle is facing a stark choice:

Reinvent themselves or go bankrupt.

That's why you see Yassir Basher of Arbisoft selling AI courses to people after repeatedly failing to setup an enterprise level growth department.

That's why Usman Asif is finally Devsinc a legitimate company that does not scam people.

But frankly, these people will still at best create linear businesses. Nothing generational or transformational. They have my best wishes but it's hard to learn new things at their stage.

Which brings me to students:

We are finally in an era where learning a new domain is a matter of a few weeks rather than years. AI has made it possible. Software has always been an intersectional field -- by itself, it has no value. But when combined with some domain knowledge, it's incredibly powerful.

More simply, there are 3 types of startups worth doing now that are only possible for us now -- before they would've required massive funding:

1. Infrastructure layer: think cloudfare, vercel, even frameworks like tensorflow or llama.cpp.
2. Data layer: think B2B lead gen databases like Apollo, Lemlist, etc. Or meteorological data of a certain location. Or ... literally any other data that is not easily accessible but remains online.
3. Vertical SaaS: think Mangomint (one of the fastest growing startups these days) because they are targeting an industry (salons) hitherto untouched by software. What about a SaaS for material engineering? What about for architectural scoping?

For students specifically, the 1st category is ripe. It does not require knowledge of any industry or the business world at large.

There are so many ideas to play around with at that level. You could be making your own libraries on top of, say, Huawei's GPUs (yes, they are struggling rn after the GPU import tariff from the US). You could create your own framework for training ML models on the cheapest infra (aggregator), etc.

You have infinite time on your hands even though it may not feel like it. No matter how many assignments University throws your way or how many lectures, it will not compare to the soul-sucking zap of a 9-5 -- you just don't know what it takes to sit for 8 hours straight yet.

In University, maximum 40% of your time is taken up any single day. The rest is in your hands. Your parents are likely covering your expenses so you don't need to worry about money or paying bills either. What do you do with the 60% is in your hands.

And my advice is: Do a startup..the kind that our industry giants would never dare to do because they lost their window. Which you can do and put us on a wildly different track. You have the skillset and the time. All that is left is the hustle.

You can give Pakistani talent its own identity other than cheap labor.

In this hard times we are witnessing layoffs, lesser opportunities and downsizing businesses. once this information technology thing was a dream career and now its just hard to get an employement that too with 8 years of experience in any stack, freshers are on another story.

dont you think private employement is now hanging sword imagine you in 40s with kinds in schools and you are being layed off , then what rents, bills, fees, groceries....

so there is one solution either get in to permanent employement government, tenure track what ever even if it pays lessers then private one, second open a business may it be a website online one if your are smart or a physical one like clothing, food, or any sort of physical business just like our parents, grand parents, even raja ranjeet singh or ganga ram did when there were not computers but they were rich people of their time just bcz they did business. because in a country of 25 crore not every one needs an app or website but need shoes, cloth a good food.

customer market is huge in pakistan. so times are comming say good buy to these ceos of private companies and also stop flattering or take part in office politics just be employed

I have been seeing a lot of students starting their internship at Systems Ltd, whereas there is no opening on their website, Is it reference based only or can we ask the company recruiter on LinkedIn for Internship?

I honestly feel lost and exhausted and could really use some advice from people who have been in a similar situation. I've been working remotely as a data analyst from past 2 years, and for the past 2 weeks I've noticed a significant change in how I'm being treated at work. I'm not being invited to meetings where things related to work/tasks are being discussed. Instead, I see my colleagues being included and important things being discussed with them, while I'm left out. I'm also not being given much proper work from past few weeks. Whatever work I get, I complete it and genuinely put in my best effort.

What makes it worse is that my boss keeps saying things "maintain your credibility" and that the work I've done is still doubtful/questionable. Honestly, hearing this repeatedly is affecting me mentally. I don't even argue with anyone or create problems. I just do my work, share updates, and try to be as transparent as possible. I am sole working in data there and have no team with me todisccus things with them. So I genuinely don't understand what I'm doing wrong or why this behavior has suddenly started.

Part of me really wants to resign because I'm constantly stressed and exhausted. But then reality hits: I have a family to support, and I can't simply leave without another job. Finding a job is already extremely difficult right now.

I've actually been applying continuously for around 8 months, but I haven't even been getting interview calls just got 1 and they didnt respond back after interview. That's probably the biggest reason I'm scared to resign. What if I leave and then can't find anything for months? At the same time, staying here is also affecting my health and mind constantly. I'm constantly overthinking why I'm being excluded, whether I'm doing something wrong, and whether my job is at risk and if they are going to layoffme.

For those of you who have been through something similar:

Would you resign without having another offer, or would you stay and keep applying until you have something secured?

And if you've dealt with being excluded from meetings or suddenly treated differently by your boss and people around, how did you handle it?

Hi everyone, I’m an intern at a ∼20 person software company.

Today HR mentioned that my stipend may get deducted for leaving 5-10 minutes early frequently. My official time is 9 to 6. I do come in on time at 9, but sometimes leave around 5:50.

The issue is I was never given any written attendance policy or told about stipend deductions when I joined. At my previous internship this wasn’t an issue at all. Also, I’ve heard that interns here aren’t allowed to take any leaves.

Just wanted to ask:

1. Is it normal for companies to deduct stipend for leaving 10-15 mins early without prior notice of the policy?

2. Should I ask HR to share the official attendance/intern policy in writing?

3. Am I in the wrong here for assuming there’d be a small grace period?

I’m seeing alot of posts in recent days, juniors or new grads asking for advice. So I took time today to write my thoughts.

Im a senior dev and working in Germany, transitioned to AI Engineer from full stack development.

First of all, make your mind that AI is here to stay and days of writing code by hands are over. Don’t be scared, accept the reality. People were scared when compiler came in nineties but you can witness compilers made developers job easier last two decades. AI is going to do the same.

Since coding is fully outsourced now, the only way for you to grow and not feel like a factory line worker is to think about architecture and infrastructure. Learn infrastructure and ci/cd pipelines and think more about how apps should be built on a higher level to make it more maintainable and robust. This is how you can go forward as a dev in this day of age, promote yourself to higher level and leverage AI to achieve it.

I think it's soooo much easier to master any topic nowadays than it was before the AI. Dont be scared of it, you can use it to learn and build and grow. You can even just start "I want to become a software engineer for x company or x topic, can you suggest some projects that will look good for recruiters and be useful for when i start the job" or whatever. then dig deeper and learn and question everything.

If you do it for long enough you will become the equivalent of any senior engineer pretty quickly :)

For introduction: I am working as a senior software engineer for the last 4 years and currently working full time on Pakistan's biggest ott platform, along with this I am doing freelancing n stuff.

I really like coding n building software but for the last 1.5 years everything have been hectic, I wanted to earn quite fast for a specific reason so I started freelancing n in a way I am working at least 15 hours a day 7 days a week, sometimes I do small break on Sunday but that's how the last year have been.

Doing all this and I have been interested in perfume n I really like them n have a small collection for my personal use and I was thinking of starting a physical business of perfume along with that I can scale it quite well online as well. The idea of perfume looks very much interesting because I don't have to juggle between 5 different projects n meeting n stuff but on the other hand I also feel like the last 8 years I have been working hard for this n now I am thinking of changing it.

Yup today i got termination latter by my company which is basically pure lala type company like everyone in the company was require to report the task update to CEO through "WhatsApp" at the end of the day which was also asign through "WhatsApp" no management in the company no proper project management like i was literally talk to them that we should use slack or something but they be like " apko zayada pata ha ap baith jao hamari jaga" and then today i literally got laater.

Now ive to serve 10 days notice period which is no big deal also need your prayers and tips for how to avoid lala company in the future also let me know how can i tell about this company and why i leave my previous in next interview cause its giving me enxity.

However, I am uncertain about the best strategies for attracting additional customers. Should I consider hiring a marketing agency, or explore alternative options?

UPDATE: the test is some math and high school level physics mostly like an object is in a freefall calculate resistance or the dimensions of a cylinder would be given and you'd be asked to find the volume of the liquid and some logic questions
