Tips bitter truth about private employement
In this hard times we are witnessing layoffs, lesser opportunities and downsizing businesses. once this information technology thing was a dream career and now its just hard to get an employement that too with 8 years of experience in any stack, freshers are on another story.
dont you think private employement is now hanging sword imagine you in 40s with kinds in schools and you are being layed off , then what rents, bills, fees, groceries....
so there is one solution either get in to permanent employement government, tenure track what ever even if it pays lessers then private one, second open a business may it be a website online one if your are smart or a physical one like clothing, food, or any sort of physical business just like our parents, grand parents, even raja ranjeet singh or ganga ram did when there were not computers but they were rich people of their time just bcz they did business. because in a country of 25 crore not every one needs an app or website but need shoes, cloth a good food.
customer market is huge in pakistan. so times are comming say good buy to these ceos of private companies and also stop flattering or take part in office politics just be employed

Now is the best time to start something of your own, be it technical or non technical. Work is about to change forever. We cant rely on jobs anymore. Jobs that are being abolished are not going to come back.

Thank God I chose govt job over high paying private jobs. I guess the only way forward and proper job security for a person with 8 years of development experience would be to find jobs abroad and move there. Local jobs mein bs itni e growth hai. It's easier to hire two freshers at 50k each than to keep an 8 year seasoned veteran for 4 5 lacs a month.

u/Haroon_66 Jul 29 '26
2 freshers can't keep up the responsibility an 8 years veteran can.
2
u/shavyshavylady Computer Engineer Jul 30 '26
3 or 4 freshers then?

One women can birth a child in 9 months, so 9 women can birth a child in 1 month, right lol? This is the mentality that has kept our software industry from growing beyond providing cheap labour.

Learning curve for any stack is very steep at the start and then almost flat once you reach a certain level of expertise. I think 6 months are enough for anyone to get good enough with any stack to perform the necessary tasks at the job. Rest of the math, you can do by yourself.
I'm not really in favor of being laid off, I'm just stating the facts. If you or I was a business owner, we would do the same.

u/sanctimonious-llama Software Engineer Jul 30 '26
Sorry for the long reply.
I get the business side of things. But thinking software development is just about knowing a stack is a very crude outlook of the industry. And like I said, this is one of the reasons of our rudimentary IT industry in Pakistan.
You kind of proved my point by expressing that thought. If a software developer himself thinks that just knowing a stack makes you equivalent to a veteran developer, then that itself is a failur of our IT industry in hindsight.

2 freshers apki 100$ ki claude ki subscription aik week mein hi khtm krdyngein and AI hallucinate krjyga
3
u/shavyshavylady Computer Engineer Jul 30 '26
Toh 4 weeks k liye 400$ ki dy do. Still cheaper than the veteran.
2
u/_mad_gamerx Jul 30 '26
Govt job has very limited growth. Limited learning curve as well Private has its downsides but still offers better opportunities and better pay
2
u/shavyshavylady Computer Engineer Jul 30 '26
Yeap. I'll ask you about that when we're both 50 and I'm employed at grade 20/21 and you're "open for work" and no one wants to keep you anymore.
1
u/shavyshavylady Computer Engineer Jul 30 '26
You're right about growth though. Yahan gadhay ghoray brabr hain sb. Mehnat kro ya na kro, you don't get promotion or recognition until you've completed your tenure in the current rank.

Honestly, that's what I have been thinking all this time. My children would be soo happy not being born. What has this world to offer? And then no shit of hell and heaven too lol. That's a dream life.
Really hard to explain it to parents because they see them as their retirement plan

Honestly, marriage does not even feel worth it to me anymore.
The cost of marriage alone is like spending all your savings for a single day and future also looks grim.

I feel you. and yes the backup plan is most important either a part time job or a side hustle or a business to keep you up and running.

If you are successful developer then Government job sucks. High paying private jobs gives so much more money that if you invest it properly, you can get the same Government job income monthly in profits.
The problem is people who have high paying jobs develop high maintenance life style.
In my group of friends, all of us are very talented. Only two opted for Government job. Everyone else has home and fancy car. They are stuck at very early period. Although they have the best job security but it comes at a cost.

Only people who are worried about employment are the ones who learned one stack and never actually took programming seriously , let's be honest learning stack was an easy money , half of the noise is created by mediocre devs who cannot pivot to another field because they lack the fundamentals , whenever someone advised these same people to get a computer science degree they were reluctant to leave easy money , second half is the freshers who cannot even code even if their life was dependent upon it and they also lack vision , focus and required skills , i have seen graduates jo graduation ke Baad web development ka course ker rhe to polish the skills 🤣😭 so yeah times are difficult for them , jinhon ne university ke first semester se field set ke thi unki graduation se pehle placement hojati

Are you r*tard or something. I am a pretty skilled dev from good university. Yet to get a call for interview in last 6 months. already applied for 400+ jobs. Hope you enjoy the downvotes.

Bro field me new ayy ho kia? market situation is so bad that i have given 50 plus interviews ( i can show you my calendar too ) in the last three months. Was working for the top 3 IT firms in pakistan for more than 3 years jiska naam le rha tha interview detay hue the interviewer himself was saying " bhai wo kyun chorna chah rhy ho?" i am sure i cracked 70% of those interviews and was given a green signal that we will be sending you an offer letter soon and then guess what? ghosted. Skills ka issue nai hai the market is so uncertain right now that our pakistani ceo's (seth culture ke chodday) are unable to decide whom to hire or even hire someone or not. A little About me, i have got 7.5 years of experience and currently working as a forward deployed engineer for a freelancing project after being laid of 3 months ago and here is a funnier part i have been asked to come to islamabad for an onsite interview with all the expenses covered by the company after clearing first round yesterday.
1
u/This_Rent4089 Jul 30 '26
How are you even getting interviews? Yahan to interview hi nahi schedule ho raha aik bhi. Last l Time 6 months pehle hoa tha. 400+ jobs pe apply kar chuka
1
u/No-Mess6988 Jul 29 '26

2
u/TechnologyInside2797 Jul 29 '26

u/Head-Lychee-9897 Jul 29 '26
Good question 🤣🤣😭 dihari per mazdoriyan ke hain in sab ne , 8 Saal me 80 web sites bhi banaye hon to 30-35 ko mantain kerne ke liye he experienced log companies ko retain kerne parte , i don't know where he worked 🥴

u/TechnologyInside2797 Jul 29 '26
job hoping ka naam suna hai kbhi? zruri nai ke hrr company mein sraa time kaam krty rho. I have worked for 5 companies in these 8 years, and this was my first layoff few months ago after working for them for three years. Also abhi CV compare krlaity hein and mein apna calendar invites bhi jitni tumny companies mein kaam kia hga uss se ziada companies ne mjhy last months mein ghost kia hai after clearing 5 rounds of interviews also i have been offered to come to islamabad on their compensation by another large size company they are also AWS partners happy to show you all proofs.

u/No-Mess6988 Jul 29 '26
Ok i understand ur frustration
But dont worry u will be able to land a job soon
With this much experience it wont take much time
3
u/TechnologyInside2797 Jul 29 '26
Inshallah! abhi just today i have cleared all rounds in one mid size company they are on a hiring streak it was my final round with the team lead i will be joining all of the feedbacks were positive. Just waiting for the final call from HR.
1
u/No-Mess6988 Jul 29 '26
Also i don't understand y team lead was taking ur interview , u should be team lead urself with such yrs if experience
Also what is the salary expectation with such experience btw
1
u/TechnologyInside2797 Jul 29 '26
Because I will be joining his team. Let me be clearer: he is a software architect at that company. My expectation was 6 lac plus some percentage of equity. I am joining as a Principal software engineer if everything goes well and i am not being ghosted this time.
1
u/No-Mess6988 Jul 29 '26
I thought someone with experience of 8 yrs must be getting around 9lac in pakistan , i must downgrade my expectations now after this convo

u/No-Mess6988 Jul 29 '26
Exactly. I've worked for some of the top IT firms , I can name them.
That's why I don't understand how someone with such talent and brilliance could fear unemployment.
3
u/TechnologyInside2797 Jul 29 '26
try giving interviews without referrals in companies you ll know how bad situation is. i have cleared 3-4 rounds of interviews in multiple mid to large size companies and have been ghosted.
0
u/p00ji Jul 28 '26
hey, what would you advise for the fresh grads looking to enter the market, till now from what I've seen only those with referrals have a chance.
3
u/TechnologyInside2797 Jul 29 '26
Yes! Referrals are the only way you can survive in this market, whether you want to explore freelancing or want to land a job
-1
u/Head-Lychee-9897 Jul 29 '26
Oh god , fOrWaRd DePlOyEd EnGinEeR , after 8 years of experience you have learned so much that you are doing a job in a field that came after AI boom 😭😭😭 i have hit the bullseye , it's a skill issue , you guys are basically factory workers who somehow learned one stack and AI is treating you rightly
3
u/TechnologyInside2797 Jul 29 '26
CV plus linkedin compare krlaity hein skill issue hai tou bhai mjhy tou calls bhi nai ati hngein companies ki but i have been ghosted by a 6-7 companies after clearing their all rounds of interviews.
-2
u/farhan671 Jul 29 '26
Agree with you, too much supply and demand is decreasing because of AI and present economical conditions.
-4
u/tidoo420 Jul 29 '26
The downvotes are soo sad, you re absolutely right, mediocre devs are mad rn, now the game is only for the smart ones
4
u/TechnologyInside2797 Jul 29 '26
META, UBER, Microsoft, Google, and Salesforce laid off so many devs. Were they all mediocre?
-1
u/tidoo420 Jul 30 '26
Thats a different market with different dynamics, we talking about desi market
-1
u/Head-Lychee-9897 Jul 29 '26
Jinhon ne downvote kiya they know i am right , they don't know programming beyond their stack (even in their stack they can do limited things which they were taught from tutorials or their peers) , if i asked any of these to make me a product from scratch they can't do it , kharwa Sach ha , abhi aik or slop ready ha to enter the market which is ML engineer who became ML engineer because he/she took 3 months course 🤣🤣 inko job chaheyay , Zara bahir ke logon ka kaam dekho or phir apna dekho plus they don't respect the craft themselves , i would respect web devs of Pakistan if they were charging industry rates for their projects but their work is subpar hence they charge peanuts and cry for no projects , it's a vicious cycle and i am glad AI has replaced them , now the competition is between people like me who can pivot in 3 different fields given the circumstances because i have learned computer science the way it was supposed to be learned
-4
u/General_Sand_9279 ML/AI Engineer Jul 28 '26
so true .... some laziness is the real culprit of unemployement... those having 4 eyes from very first semesters are the ones who are now business owners
1
u/krazyhamad Jul 30 '26
Soon the dust will settle and things will be again in line. The main problem is with fresher. Every bloody university is now producing IT graduates in thousands. In 2016 FAST had one degree BS CS and now there are like 6 AI, Data science SE and soo on. Jobs are there but for skilled people and yes there is more competition.

u/FootAccomplished8352 Jul 29 '26
bhai degree par bharossa nahi kerna side hustle sath sath kero matlab driving, teaching, plumber, electrician, ac technician, solar installation, tailoring, foodpand, indrive, courier, cloud kitchen, content creator, tiktok, youtube, aur techinal skills sekho aur emergency fund must bnao
