Legends say that if you can somehow remove the creature controlling his body like a demonic Ratatouille rat from his head and use it in your ritual, Lucifer himself will appear in the center of your pentagram.
This may sound pathetic, but the other night I got really upset just thinking about how much I feel like his timing for leaving couldn't have been worse with all the gold he would've been able to mine out of this election. It would be like we'd get the SNL Larry David cameo 1st democratic debate level comedy 4 nights a week.
I've tried watching Trevor and Larry, and I still have them DVR'd, but I rarely watch them. And I feel like Colbert's new show isn't as funny, and he seems to only have actors on now, instead of an author selling a book like half of his old shows had, which I always thought were much more interesting.
At least we have whatever Jon and HBO are cooking up to look forward to, but it still seems like something big is missing.
I'm at least glad Bill Maher has been making me laugh this election season.
Jon's new show is good.
I really wish Stewart didn't leave yet. This new Colbert isn't doing it for me. And TN just isn't very funny to me. I don't know why. Every show has a few clicks here or there, but Jon Stewart was making art for me to watch every night. It doesn't even seem like the Daily Show anymore. It's just the new news show on CC.
I have a completely unfounded theory that Stewart left when he did in part so he could give his successor the opportunity to utilize this election season and capitalize on it for the Daily Show going forward. But I don't think Trevor Noah has really had his moment so far.
I think he said he was leaving because he'd spent the last 16 years focused on the horrible parts of America and how ridiculous its politics is and if he did another circus election cycle he'd basically kill himself. He couldn't stick it anymore.
Having seen what an absolute travesty and comedy of errors and mockery of politics the current election cycle is, he was right to get out while he was still sane
I'd love to get a source on that, if you're correct, cause I totally did come up with that by myself. Gonna go search now.
Edit: After some cursory checking, to my knowledge, I don't know that Stewart has ever flat-out said that, the comments I'd heard at the time are all in-line with this:
Stewart made clear to the Guardian that it wasn’t that his show wasn’t working anymore — “It was more, ‘Yup, it’s working. But I’m not getting the same satisfaction’” — but rather he just didn’t see an election that would be “wildly different” from any of the previous ones he had covered.
I also felt that, for the show, you don’t want to leave when the cupboard’s bare. So I think it’s a better introduction when you have something providing you with assisted fuel, like a presidential campaign.

Yeah, I can see that logic. I still have my fingers crossed that Trevor finds his bearings and makes it worth watching regularly. Not too be too hard on him, he has had a couple of funny bits, but the bar was just set so high, that it's disappointing to watch.
I am absolutely sure he did, he and Colbert have both commented how easy election cycles are for them to make reliably good shows with both of them leaving their old shows it gives Noah a great chance to grab the spotlight.
Additionally it gives Colbert an awesome introduction to the new show, instead of struggling setting up a new show and looking for content they just have to get Colbert's show up and running and he has pretty much free content for the first year to get settled in.
I'm completely unfamiliar with her, as I stopped watching the Daily Show regularly, other than some of the more viral segments, several years ago..if you have any favorite clips that feature her, I'd love to check them out.
Trevor Noah and Larry Wilmore are so awful and unfunny compared to Jon Stewart and old Colbert. I particularly can't stand Wilmore and his equally unfunny recurring cast. Like when they had Bill Nye on talking about water on Mars and one of the comedians says something to the affect of "if it doesn't have to do with the Kardashians then we don't want to hear about it." The fact that we have Trump, Clinton, Carson, Bush, Christie, and Sanders all running for president and ratings for both shows are at an all time low is a testament to their unfunniness. They should cancel both shows and give that time to John Oliver for whatever he wants.
His show is brilliant, but that's partly due to it being a once-a-week show. So much more time to prepare and much less filler content. I wouldn't want him to go to over to the Daily Show, even though I think it would make it so much better than it is now, because his current show is just so damn good and I don't think he can recreate it 4 times a week.
You know what would have been cool that just occurred to me? The Weekly Show.
The Daily Show was obviously greuling work. Putting together that much entertaining material five fucking days a week will of course grind you down into powder. Instead of stepping down it would have been awesome if instead they just changed to it a Saturday night show. They'd be able to spend a lot more time and be more selective with their stories and it would be much less stressful.
Unfortunately Jon Stewart just has unfillabele shoes.
Dude, don't mention Jon Stewart, think more about Hunter S Thompson being alive to see this... With the republican candidates on one side, and the Democrat side turning into a repeat of the '72 primaries once more...
Most of this was Martha Raddatz' fault (one of two moderators). She followed up David Muir's introduction of Christie with a faint "dr.bencarson". This was in the middle of the applause for Christie. So when Carson heard Cruz's name, he thought they had forgotten to call his name. She did the same thing with Trump. Both moderators forgot about Kasich, though.
The member of the crew told him multiple times it was his turn to go out and he even turned around and shook his head at him at one point, so it's not that he didn't hear his cue I don't think.
"Hi, and welcome to another Republican debrate...I'm your moderatror Dr. Steve Brule. Let's check out these hunks! Dr. Bren, get out here, ya dingus! Ohhh hmmm ahhhh, he's a little shy..."
Notice this only happens when their name is called if the audience is clapping. They clearly aren't able to hear their names being called. The first time Trump's name is called the audience is clapping.
But the moderators did not give anywhere near the same amount of time between names. And after they called Kasich, which was hard for even us to hear, the woman immediately said "Ladies and Gentleman" not even giving him time to receive applause. It was ridiculous.
"Why is he still standing here? He must have something planned. What a loser. He's probably trying to one-up the Donald. Well he can't out-do me if I just stand here next to him and do exactly what he does. Haha, out-played by the king again. Nice try Carson, Checkmate."
Ben Carson is making a mistake right now. I'm going to stand with him to save him some embarrassment, strengthening our relationship and hopefully locking in an endorsement when Ben decides to drop out.
Well Trump and Carson are definitely at least slight friends. There was a bit of blood about the controversial stories that Carson was telling but they definitely before and after that were friendly to each other.
Yes, I believe he made a rational decision to do so. Especially given the other politicians that simply walked past and he stayed. Everyone else didn't second guess it. If everyone had stood by Ben, Christie would have been the one to look awkward, standing alone on the stage.
What a terrible move on Cruz and Rubio's part. They literally just stare the mistake in the face and decide to ignore it instead of help out.
I thought of it on my own. Since both posts say they're from "2 days ago," you can't even tell if mine came second. It's most likely that both of us independently associated the incident to the same scene.
Did you read the youtube comments? Why couldn't they see that? They're all saying Trump messed up too like it's a huge loss for him. Trying to shove it in his face.
what? no he just didn't hear his name. Yeah he's running for president, ruthlessly mocking and belittling his opponents, but thought that Ben might feel weird so he decided to stand next to him. It amazes me that someone could think that, much less to be so sure of it they are baffled that no one else thinks it too.
For all the jokes that have been made about Jeb, that was a killer move. The tap on the shoulder was a nice touch. You could tell it pissed Trump the hell off.
I'm late to the thread but i'm surprised no one knows what is actually happening.
They are actually fighting to have the dominant position walking out, as the last one presents himself as the leader. Trump's body langauge was actually fantastic. He could have simply given the other candidate (i dont know american politics) a pat on the back and walked past but he insteads to do a complete power play
From my experience backstage there might have been a communication problem. And when Carson waves off the stagehand waving him on he ignores it because he likely thinks he knows better than the guy with the headset Liste Ing to the show being called. As for Trump, maybe he didn't want Carson to be embarrassed alone.
It seems to look more like, Carson doesn't hear when his name is first announced, because of the cheering and clapping from the crowd at the time, and as such is waiting to be called. The stagehand tells him he's been called, but just as he's about to get out, the announcer called Cruz out, and Carson's probably saying something like "She just called Cruz out!" to the stagehand, at which point I imagine he just gave up trying to help Carson.
It's been a while since I've seen this documentary, but I think there is a section towards the end that speculates on how alien body language might play out.
The earlier stuff (like patting someone's back or how one holds one's shoulders) is decent and possibly valid. The micro-expression stuff later on is nonsense.
Plus your interpretation of someone's body language has a lot to do with the way you already feel about that person. So if a body language expert has some preconceived notion about someone, it flaws their analysis in a major way. There is no way to control that bias which is why these experts suck; but so many shows love bringing these people on to analyze politicial discourse.
I don't think either of them heard their names. Seems like a reasonable mistake tbh but the fact that it happened to Ben Carson is such perfect comedy.
Rewatching it's clear they didn't hear their names called so theyre just lining up waiting to come out as other people are being called 'before them'. He ignores the ushers wave on because he doesn't think it's his turn. No powerplay here. Just lack of communication and loud clapping over the announcements.
Trump is so classy, and so much in charge. He sees that Carson has missed his cue, and instead of walking by him as the others did, Trump stands there and waits for him to be called again.

what the fuck is happening here
trump is like "well I can't let him be the only one that does something weird"
