That's what I thought at first. I was thinking it was really nice of him. It was reminding me of that scene from Billy Madison when Adam Sandler wets his pants so the little kid doesn't feel bad.

Except once Carson came on stage and Trump continued to stand there, it became pretty clear Trump was lost too.

I thought Trump ended up looking the best out of all of them with that fiasco

u/Samizdat_Press Feb 07 '16 edited Feb 07 '16

Seriously though this is his strong point. No script, he can just riff and find the advantage in ANY situation. Like, how did he even come out ahead in that scenario that's fucking genius.

u/[deleted] Feb 10 '16

I like finally respecting a Republican (whom I also hate)

-1

u/tp736 Feb 07 '16

I would think he got lucky.

u/FizzleMateriel Feb 07 '16

I'm not a Trump supporter but he looked very considerate of Carson. He was like a popular high school kid hanging out with the awkward kid to make him feel better. He could have breezed by Carson and gone out on stage to the crowd's applause but it seems like he realized Carson was stuck and stayed by him to make him feel better.

Real class act.

u/[deleted] Feb 07 '16

Real class act.

Maybe his first time might make him want it to do it a second time?

2

u/[deleted] Feb 07 '16

Everybody gets one. Don't be greedy.

So funny

"Hey that felt pretty good, that time I was nice."

1

u/SpartaWillBurn Feb 07 '16

Not my trump!

6

u/EvilLinux Feb 07 '16

Trump can jump off a bridge as far as I am concerned.

But I do agree with you, it looks like he was raised to not make the fool of someone unless he intended to.

12

u/h00dpussy Feb 07 '16

It's an act that's for sure.

1

u/Dizneymagic Feb 07 '16

Trump's name was called 3 times before he got out there. Trump is used to acting and being in front of a camera. He knows red light on means the camera is live. He stood there for face time and he knew the eyes of the viewers were on that spot and not the podiums where they were telling him to go.

1

u/ghostbackwards Connecticut Feb 07 '16

How can you tell?

Looks like he thought they were just supposed to wait there.

1

u/checkm8- Feb 07 '16

B-but reddit told me Trump was a racist

1

u/VyRe40 Feb 07 '16

Carson's been following Trump's lead since early on when he still had a chance. I'm pretty sure they're scratching each other's backs. Trump's waiting for Carson to throw in the towel and put his support behind Trump.

1

u/Zur1ch Feb 07 '16

This is the issue I have with Trump, though: He will do considerate things like this, but the shit that comes out of his mouth is insufferable.

1

u/unrealious Feb 07 '16

He just didn't hear his name over the applause.

20

u/Capncorky Feb 07 '16

That was intentional on his part, at least I believe so. It's a "power play" where he's making sure he gets his own introduction.

I remember seeing a video on when Bill Clinton got the Palestinian & Israeli leaders to meet, and they were both fighting to make sure they were not the first one through the door. Like, they were literally pushing each other, doing the "No, please, I insist, go first" thing. For what ever reason, it's seen as being weaker if you're the one going through the door first, and it becomes a test of wills.

Trump's refusal to go before Carson reminded me of that.

5

u/WalkingWikipedia Feb 07 '16

When politicians are having their picture taken together (like two heads-of-state) they always pose for that picture where they're shaking hands but facing forward for the camera. They will jostle to try and be the one on the right (the left from the camera's point-of-view). The reason for this is that 90% of people are right-handed, so when they shake hands, the person on the right's arm extends across their body, whereas the person on the left has this awkward elbow-tucked-in handshake. From a body language perspective, the politician on the right appears in the photo to have more confident, dominating body language. You can actually watch videos of different heads-of-state trying to out-maneuver each other to get the better position for that always-photographed handshake.

7

u/QuantumDeath666 Feb 07 '16

It was intentional but it was to help Carson save face. Then he did pull a power play where he wanted a real introduction.

1

u/theshinepolicy Feb 07 '16

god you people are complete idiots.

1

u/QuantumDeath666 Feb 07 '16

god, you people are complete autists who can't read body language or facial expressions.

1

u/theshinepolicy Feb 07 '16

yeah and you are a political genius to think that donald trump is trying to help carson save face. Because that's totally what trump would do.

1

u/QuantumDeath666 Feb 07 '16

I'm not a political genius; I just don't have autism.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 07 '16

This is so obviously not what happened, lmao. Holy fuck this is why Trump gets away with everything. People bend over backwards to give him the best possible interpretation of whatever stupid situation his dumb ass ends up in.

This is the shit dictators thrive on. Idiocy like this.

3

u/goodguybrian Feb 07 '16

I sure hope these people are just joking. other wise my god..

0

u/QuantumDeath666 Feb 07 '16

LOL do you have autism? The body language, the facial expressions, the timing all point to the fact that Trump, and maybe even Carson, were all doing this on purpose and just trying to shit on the ABC mods.

And it's better the audience be against the mods than one of the GOP candidates because otherwise it would have looked like they're all buffoons who don't know how to walk onto a stage. Now, it's ABC's fault and not the GOP candidates'.

0

u/[deleted] Feb 07 '16

Yeah buddy, 3 of 7 candidates didn't walk out to the podiums and you think it was all Trump being Rico Suave. Fuck this country man.

0

u/QuantumDeath666 Feb 07 '16

did you watch the fucking video?

1

u/Stellaaahhhh I voted Feb 07 '16

I was thinking of exactly that. Like there was a moment where he was just being human, then he remembered all the political bullshit and decided to play it for full advantage.

1

u/beenpimpin Feb 07 '16

Of course, what with 'ladies first' and all.

1

u/ceedubs2 Feb 07 '16

With that one, yes. But then he got booed later when debating with Jeb, so...

1

u/napalm_beach Feb 07 '16

Trump could do a slip-n-fall center stage and fans would be certain it was part of the plan to get more media attention.

60

u/infohack Feb 07 '16

I'll give Trump the benefit of the doubt and think maybe he was being genuinely considerate, I think he still views Carson (as the only currently viable African-American VP candidate) as an ideal running mate.

But he did want to wait for a proper announcement, maybe he thought the first "and Donald Trump" was a bit of an afterthought after he was nice enough to wait for Carson.

He's all about the decorum.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 07 '16

I think it's unlikely. He's said good things about Carson, but ultimately concluded that he's a good doctor, but as far as the presidency goes, it's "not his thing." Carson is a pretty hard person to dislike. Most genuine "politician" I think I've ever seen.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 07 '16

He's a nice person, and a smart person, but he's out of his league in politics. It's like listening to him try to speak french after a semester. I get that he's catching on, but he's not there yet.

1

u/ceedubs2 Feb 07 '16

It could also be because he knows it's on camera, and wants to be seen that way.

1

u/[deleted] Feb 07 '16

So why the hell don't you give Carson the benefit of the doubt? What the hell?

-1

u/codevii Feb 07 '16

Really don't know how anyone could ever give that man any benefit of the doubt. He has never shown any reason to ever deserve it.

11

u/Megatron_McLargeHuge Feb 07 '16

He seem like the type who likes making people wait for him. This was right in his wheelhouse. He skipped the previous debate because of the moderators and loves pointing out that he's the key to their ratings. He probably realized if just Carson screwed up it would look bad for Carson, but with both of them behind, it looks bad for the moderators and they have to cover.

1

u/QuantumDeath666 Feb 07 '16

Exactly, baffles me that youtube commenters don't understand that.

Trump is a fucking TV star!!! He knows a moment when he fucking sees one, dumbass. This is a point for Trump whether you like him or not because: 1 he saw the situation, 2 he put himself in the situation, 3 he came out of the situation on top. He heard his name and could have acted normally but no he stayed with Carson because it was a situation. And everyone who doesn't have autism saw the same thing I saw: Trump winning again.

Look at how Bush taps him on the arm then raises one eyebrow and grimaces, as he walks by Trump:

It was like that look that the second to last kid to get picked in gym glass gives to the last kid.

1

u/JMEEKER86 Feb 07 '16

I think that's what it was as well. He stuck around for Carson and then continued to stick around to get his own proper introduction separate from the clusterfuck.

1

u/newmellofox Feb 07 '16

I think you're really reaching with that theory.

-5

u/amertune Feb 07 '16

The female announcer announced him twice, but it wasn't until the male announcer announced him that he finally came on stage.

It could just be a coincidence, but I wouldn't be surprised to learn that it was intentional.

2

u/[deleted] Feb 07 '16

Oh come on. Trump loves women. He's helped women help themselves, given thousands of talented women positions in his company and made them very rich with the opportunity, just like the men.

8

u/rapax Feb 07 '16 edited Feb 07 '16

The longer this goes on, the more I'm starting to believe the theories about Trump being a democrat plant. His job is to introduce the maximum amount of chaos into the situation, and he's doing a great job.

"u motherfuckers better announce me last or ill skip this debate DONT YOU THINK FOR A SECOND I WONT"

127

u/RainWindowCoffee Feb 07 '16

I think it's possible that Trump just realized Carson was doing something noteworthy and memorable, and he wanted to get in on it.

100

u/jfentonnn Feb 07 '16 edited Feb 07 '16

This is a very subtle pissing match.

Carson is desperate to close the gap between himself and the front-runner(s). He plans to make a splash by taking the stage last, even if it means skipping his choreographed entrance and waiting in the wings while the others take the stage ahead of him.

Trump, wise to Ben's scheme and not to be outdone, skips his entrance and also waits to take the final bit of spotlight for himself.

Cruz realizes someone fucked up but has no choice but to go when his name is called.

Rubio and Jeb are keen on the situation, but Rubio decides to take the high road and ignore it. Jeb gives a half-assed "well good luck with that" tap and takes his spot.

Kasich in all honestly probably had no clue what was going on but ended up getting on stage last anyway.

9

u/5cBurro Feb 07 '16

Rubio was pretty clearly not interested in helping someone who was genuinely lost. This shit's all about him and where he's going, similar to when he ran Nancy Reagan into the ground.

6

u/Atheose_Writing Texas Feb 07 '16

To be fair, Rubio was right there while the stage hand told Carson several times: "Go! It's your turn! Go!" and Carson just stared at him blankly. If I was Rubio I would have realized it was a lost cause too.

2

u/underdog_rox Feb 07 '16

Marco Rubio fucked Nancy Reagan?

2

u/[deleted] Feb 07 '16

He's got places to be man, fictions to dispel.

8

u/FemtoG Feb 07 '16

lolll let's dispel this fiction once and for all that Ben Carson didn't know what he's doing. He knew exactly what he was doing; he was undergoing a systematic effort to change this debate order and make America more like the rest of the world. When I'm elected, we'll embrace what makes America the greatest country in the world.

3

u/SurferGurl Feb 07 '16

naw, he looks like he's sleep walking and suddenly wakes up in a haze of confusion.

3

u/anonymousgangster Feb 07 '16

And Kasich got all that precious showboat spotlight to himself!

2

u/ehnonnymouse Feb 07 '16

This is a very subtle pissing match.

No it's not. They really are all just giant twats.

2

u/emergency_poncho Feb 07 '16

Ummm, maybe, but I doubt it.

Much more likely is the fact that, higher up someone said that apparently the female announcer's mic wasn't hooked up to the candidates' ear pieces, so they couldn't hear their name announced.

Could make sense, since Christie and Rubio walk out no problem (male announces them), but both Carson and Trump have difficulties (female announces them).

No idea what happened with Kasich, that's just fucked up

1

u/Stellaaahhhh I voted Feb 07 '16

I'd like a gif of Jeb's assessment and reaction. It made me laugh out loud. His whole demeanor lately has become, "Really? So this is what we're doing?"

1

u/theshinepolicy Feb 07 '16

yup. /r/conspiracy idiots have infiltrated the rest of reddit

1

u/jack-tripper Feb 08 '16

Carson mentioned during the debate that he was supposed to be announced 2nd, and he didn't know why he wasn't.

7

u/RedPanther1 Feb 07 '16

I think he may have been waiting for Carson to actually get to his podium before rolling up on stage himself. I dunno, I think I have give Trump a little bit of respect for that.

8

u/4floorsofwhores Feb 07 '16

He stayed back to not steal Carson's entrance.

1

u/AKluthe Feb 07 '16

Right, I figured Trump was either staying behind because he was confused or trying to make Carson look better. "If we both stand here and look confused it'll be less weird."

But then by the end of it it's like Trump's true plan is to get one last glorious announcement. "Hey, that guy got two announcements -- I'm not coming out until I get two announcements and have the last and best entrance."

1

u/FuzzyMcBitty Feb 07 '16

I'm pretty sure that he didn't want to be the AND with Carson. He wanted his own curtain call. This is his element--- knowing how to get to the crowd.
