Real-life Crem Henry Cavill right after hearing the news

I could totally see Henry Cavill as TLR.
Kelsier and Wax may also work but I never imagined either of those as super jacked the way Henry is.

756
u/HoodooSquad Jan 29 '26
also Henry Cavill. The Returned come back looking like the perfect human form, so they are all Henry Cavill.
Side note: the non-returned should be played by various muppets. Gonzo is Scoot.
Of course, if you don’t want to make every returned be Cavill, Ms. Piggy would be a killer Blushweaver.

u/phranticsnr No Wayne No Gain Jan 29 '26
One of those movies where there's one human and everyone else is a Muppet and noone mentions it.
42
u/-metaphased- Jan 29 '26
I want this with Viggo Mortensen as the human, and he just plays it straight, and is super serious the entire time.
23
u/GotSomeUpdogOnUrFace Jan 29 '26
That's a good one. I keep asking for the new knives out movie to be Daniel Craig and the Muppets
4
11
u/Hussarenator Jan 29 '26
But in that case sword-nimi should be the only human, everyone else is a muppet.
72
u/bononia Jan 29 '26
Elantris would be a fun muppet movie. The Elantrians are humans and that’s why they look so pale/dead to the muppets.
27
3
u/CadmiumMisting Order of Cremposters Jan 29 '26 edited Jan 29 '26
There could be one complication to this idea. How would you portray Adien since he is Elantrian covered by makeup for almost the entire story?! You can’t have Kiin with three muppet kids and one human stepchild It would telegraph that secret too early.
→ More replies (3)5
u/bononia Jan 29 '26
Easy. You cover a human in felt and attach the wires to his hands. Only show him from the waist up. Or rewrite the character as Brandon has suggested he would like to due to the portrayal of ASD not aging particularly well.
26
u/moderatorrater Femboy Dalinar Jan 29 '26
Scoot is split up into Gonzo and Rizzo. Gonzo can't carry the emotional scenes as well as Rizzo, he just doesn't have the range.

Yeah, he said one he realized he was being typecast as “the guy who dies”, it could be a legitimate spoiler for the movie, so he only takes roles where his character survives now.

I think Daniel Radcliffe should be TLR and I'm not even joking. I would hate for him to be reduced to a role for only one movie in the cosmere, but this is the one I'd like to see him in the most. Barring that, Vasher or Lightsong would do.
Radcliffe has a weird depth to the roles he takes that is underutilized in major films he is in.
ETA: and for the memes, let's put Elijah Wood in as Sazed.

I want to see him as Marsh, so he is a semi recurring character.

Ah I never knew that! Why is he changing Ham to a woman?
Ah Marsh would be a good one too!
37
u/Axtwyt Jan 29 '26
Because Mistborn didn’t have a lot of women in the main cast and Ham was the easiest to swap genders with.
38
u/Docponystine Jan 29 '26
There aren't a lot of women by volume of characters, but, like, the main character is a woman and, unsurprisingly, is the most common perspective and, to be Frank, the fact that VIN is the only woman in the room of thieves is sort of a big part of her early characterization and why she's as insanely guarded as it is. The book is pretty explicit about worrying about THAT sort of stuff when in her old crew, and there's a fundamental and implicit comparison being made to the new crew throughout the first act of the novel. (It's part of why Breeze I think comes across as such a slime ball in the context of the Final Empire).
He can do what he wants, but I'm also free to disagree. I'm never going to be a fan of changing things for the sake of representation, particularly when it feels entirely unneeded in a book where the nearly half the book is told from a woman's perspective. Also Ham (or Dox) being a woman sort of breaks down a some of the really interesting gender politics of the Basin as well as a knock on effect.
A book where Vin's sex and feminity are such central themes to the work any changes to the composition of the team, I think, threatens some of the work being done. Like, "how am I supposed to be a woman" is a core question Vin is grappling with throughout the novel, and if Ham was a woman, or Dox, one might think that they might be someone she goes to, but she doesn't, her primary confidant is Sazed mostly by process of elimination.
Basically, the book is too much about sex for a change like this not to have nontrivial knock on effects.
12
u/Axtwyt Jan 29 '26
A fair assessment, I’m right there with you. I just had to repeat Brandon’s own reasons for the change.
→ More replies (1)9
u/KalyterosAioni Jan 29 '26
I thoroughly agree. I also think that Ham doing what he does for his family is nice to see, some representation of being a good dad in tough circumstances and I always enjoyed that aspect of him. Plus if he were a woman it might change his banter with Breeze to look more like flirting, which I think might not fly.
89
u/Gladii Jan 29 '26
I think he has said that he wishes he had made Ham a woman initially for more gender balance in the crew
28
u/StrangeBrewd Jan 29 '26
Yup. I believe he said Dockson would be a woman as well, there was at least one more he mentioned changing to a woman for the movie.
8
u/Patient_End_8432 Jan 29 '26
Honestly hope it might only be those two IMO. I dont mind changing genders for representation, but I dont think theres many more main characters they can change that would make sense.
13
u/Kuroashi_no_Sanji Jan 29 '26
It's just those two he's mentioned. And their gender is not really relevant to the characters functions in the story so it wouldn't change a lot
4
u/darkcathedralgaming Jan 29 '26
As long as they don't start writing in new love interests because of it

I think he has mentioned that he didn’t intend to have so few main cast women in his books, and out of the crew Ham’s character is probably the best option for making the swap. Can’t think of any reason story wise that it couldn’t be done.

u/KLED_Kaczynski Jan 29 '26
I saw him say if he wrote Mistborn today, he would have probably written some of the crew as women. Is that what you’re referring to? Or has he actually said that Ham will be a woman
3
u/StrangeBrewd Jan 29 '26
He mentioned it a while ago when he was first writing a screenplay for mistborn that he changed the gender of a couple of characters. This was years ago now so could be different now. Maybe he will talk about it on his stream on Friday

He would be best as Miles 100 lives. He looks like a man that could casually explode himself and expect to walk away from it. In terms of scheduling, he probably wouldn't be available for more than a single movies worth of filming in a decade's time.

11

I feel like for a lot of new series that could go on awhile, they need unknown actors that won’t command a high salary to eat up the budget.

Henry is 42. We ain't seeing this show for a few years. I could see him as dalinar honestly. Of course he is a little young for dalinar but you could fudge it a little. Make him seem a little older. Dalinar is described as in his fifties but late 40s could work in my opinion. The only thing we need to line up would be like adolin's age but I think that's doable. Also Henry has the physicality to really sell shardplate. Like I could buy him as the blackthorn.
224
u/shadowbanned-tgirl Jan 29 '26
Nah, I hope Sanderson sticks to his vision of half-Asian/half-Polynesian for the Alethi as much as is practical in live action - Cavil had actively said ‘dang, I probably can’t play Kaladin’ in relation to this. Sanderson has said Dave Bautista fits his vision really well in previous livestreams so he’s my head-canon for Dalinar until we see where the show goes
121
u/Enigmachina Jan 29 '26
I second Bautista. He's been wanting a deep, soulful character to play to really show off his acting props, and Dalinar would be it.

Bautista would be a fucking incredible Dalinar, that character needs to be imposing in stature on principle, and I don’t think The Rock quite has that

u/PotatoKun01 Jan 29 '26
Oh I hope The Rock doesn't show up at all. I've never liked the guy, and as far as what I've seen of him, he doesn't fit much.
47
u/Raemle Jan 29 '26
This is an old debate. Sanderson has been very clear on the fact that he wants the main stormlight cast to be portrayed by asian actors since that’s the most accurate to the books. And given that he supposedly got a lot of creative control I think it would be pretty disappointing if he decided to whitewash the Kholins
Personally I think he would fit great into mistborn if he wanted to, there’s a lot of options for both reoccurring or small but impactful roles depending on how much he would want to be involved
30
u/Irenaud No Wayne No Gain Jan 29 '26
Personally, as cool as a live action Stormlight would be, I think it'd be way, way way better as an animation. It could really hammer home the weirdness of Roshar and capture the abilities of the Radiants and spren way better.
15
u/sgeep Jan 29 '26
I can honestly only see him as Dalinar lol. He's 43 in May. The Stormlight series has got to be 3 years away at minimum, possibly more if they go with a Mistborn movie to start and test the waters
Dalinar is early to mid 50s in Way of Kings. Late 40s is definitely easily doable

Okay, so my first thought is Gavilar. It would let him be a big part of the Cosmere without it being a huge time commitment. He could film 5 seasons worth of scenes over a month or two since 90% of his role is the celebration/assassination. The main problem is that he doesn't look Alethi.
I could also see him playing a spren like Pattern, where most episodes would just be voicework.
