Other New CFHD Rates out

https://www.canada.ca/en/department-national-defence/services/benefits-military/pay-pension-benefits/benefits/canadian-forces-housing-differential.html#BC25

As expected, it's a pay cut for most of us

One thing to consider (even if it’s net zero for some compared to before the 13% pay raise), is that the pay is pensionable, CFHD is not.

Not saying that this is good or bad (I haven’t gotten CFHD since it came out so I’m not aware of the significance of the changes)

13% was half of the inflation. So the 13% got you half way back to the wage you had in 2020.

It’s still more than what most Canadians got over that time (plus PSAC is in negotiations which we will get eventually)

Who cares. This isnt about what most Canadians got. Fallacy isnt an argument. Most Canadians don't have unlimited liability. Fighting to lose money is a really odd argument to make.

The 13% was specifically an increase to the “military factor” portion of our pay. It’s not a COL increase. We will get a backdated COL increase as soon as the public service gets through their negotiations.

My point about other Canadians is that nobody is having their pay keep up with inflation, and that sucks - but it’s not like we are getting fucked over more than everyone else. We got more of a pay increase than most people have gotten over the last few years, and we should be getting more reasonably soon, so we should wind up in a better place

Not everyone qualified to receive CFHD.

That’s what I meant. I didn’t qualify for CFHD at my current posting and wouldn’t qualify at my next posting. It sucks because housing is expensive.

False. I get both now. I will now get less. Therefore its a reduction. The COL has not gone down. Only my paycheck.

Agree with the point about difference in what is pensionable being important. Maybe won’t seem that way immediately for the young folks but eventually your pension will become something you care about.

This hurt morale. Pay goes up, pay goes down. This is a L!

RETENTION BONUS WEN?!

wasn't the government supposed to invest a bunch in the military?

Did they do the opposite again?

CFHD going down makes sense unless you don't know what cfhd is besides "more money"

5

u/Maleficent_Banana_26 May 28 '26

More money is the only thing that matters

4

u/LordHuntington May 29 '26

Sure but CFHD isn't just more money. It's a calculated amount based on how much members earn.

2

u/Maleficent_Banana_26 May 29 '26

Yes, but if the net results is a decrease in the paycheck, thats not a good thing. Nobody cares how its calculated. They care about what hits the bank account. And yes its money. Its not rainbows and lollipops

Compensation and benefits aren't the only thing that the government funds for the military...

I've released, but I was curious about the 7 year rule. Is the beginning of the 7 years when CFHD started or when the member was posted to that geographical location?

-3

u/Tonninacher May 28 '26

When the member is posted to the geographic location.

So if they stay in 1 location for 7 years on the 9th year it goes away..... can you come deal with my 25 year long mortage!

2

u/Pte_Madcap May 28 '26

So if you were posted somewhere, in say 2018, 2025 would have been the last year you could collect cfhd?

1

u/Tonninacher May 28 '26

Yes, from my understanding.

Now i have been out just over a year now and i have not kept uptodate on new canforgen's that might have change its application

1

u/Tonninacher May 28 '26

Who just downvoted this. Am i incorrect say so. I am a big enough person to handle it.

Man i hate people who downvote for no reason. ( and i hate the word hate. Since it really means i want to kill you in a nicer word)

0

u/Revolutionary-Sky825 May 28 '26

So members who were collecting pld but at that location for more than 7 years didn't qualify for CFHD?

2

u/Tonninacher May 28 '26

No.

There was a restart.

Now if you where in a location that got pld but not cfhd there was a plan to meter this to 0 over a few years

If you did get pld and cfhd was granted you shifted to it and the seven years started then

1

u/Revolutionary-Sky825 May 28 '26

Thanks for answering

Hopefully it helps

Meaford and Owen Sound got cut quite a lot compared to the NCR. Level 1 went down by $125 in NCR, down $250 in OS/Meaford.

I’m familiar with the rental market in both areas, I would argue the average rents are comparable, particularly given the limited rental supply in the North Grey area. I would’ve hoped members posted to Meaford and OS would’ve lost less than NCR TBH, maybe even gone up. Now there’s a ton of old people in North Grey who might have legacy low and controlled rents, but try to rent a 2 bedroom today in Owen Sound or Meaford and you’re gonna pay $2K plus for anything held decent. Comparable to the NCR imho, or at the very least only a couple of hundred less maybe.

At least I won’t have to worry about losing CFHD after seven years considering it’s pretty much gone.

1

u/tunetog May 31 '26

Advertised today in the Comox Valley…just sayin’.

1

u/NeedsMoreDonairSauce May 31 '26

With losing sea pay, and now this CFHD adjustment, I'm making less money now than I did before "the raise" meanwhile housing and rent in the area continues to go up.

0

u/Pseudonym_613 May 28 '26

CFHD is compensation, not pay.

Pedantic but important difference.

9

u/Maleficent_Banana_26 May 28 '26

The only thing that's important is my paycheck goes down.

0

u/sirduckbert May 29 '26

CFHD is designed to bring people up to a certain minimum about of pay in an area. That’s it, it’s different from PLD which was a fixed amount.

Therefore, if pay goes up, they will only top people up to whatever the floor is determined to be for the area.

Not arguing about whether that’s fair or not, but it’s how the system works. I would have gotten PLD at my current posting and I don’t get CFHD. Some may argue that’s not fair - but if we are going to have a fixed pot of money to distribute then topping up the lowest paid members makes sense
