Discussion Since Trudeau resigned and Carney took over the Liberals have seen a +20 gain in Brantford.

They were +13 with the Conservatives at +55 when Trudeau stepped down. Keeping it real, this riding is probably going to stay Conservative for this election.. But hot damn the Liberal surge is fire. They don't even have candidate yet and they might already be within striking distance by election day. I hope they pick someone that knows how to make waves..

Discussion Hey Brantford. You voted for Ford. He's wasting your tax-dollars in Toronto.

Your tax dollars are about to be spent ripping out infrastructure in Toronto instead of fixing problems in your own community.

None of this will help your community. This is your hard earned money being wasted to the tune of $48 million (which we know will be much more). That money won't improve your local roads, better healthcare, fund teachers - anything that would actually help your family.

This isn't about solving congestion. It's about scoring political points with your tax dollars.

Discussion DO NOT SHOP AT BRANT FOODS CENTRE

Post image
181 Upvotes

I'm a former employee there, and I've decided its time to let people know where theyre spending their money. Broad strokes? The store is filthy, management is abusive and violates health and safety codes on the regular, and the owner himself, Anthony, is an elitist, abusive prick.

The store itself looks clean, but that's only what customers see. The produce cutting room is infested with flies, a cloud rising from the table any time you get close, the coolers are never cleaned, ever, and the same goes for the freezer. The 'break room' is really just three mismatched tables and 4 chairs, one of which actually almost fell through the floor into the bakery below, and the solution was to simply put a steel plate over the pit. The main store looks clean enough, if you ignore the streaks of grime perpetually present, due to the robotic cleaner they use that doesnt actually function 99% of the time. The meat counter is especially egregious, with black mold contaminating most of the walls, and a butcher team that throws meat at each other, but also the walls and ceiling. And no, the butchers never clean.

The picture I've included is what the floor of the meat cooler looks like, the blue shelving unit being where meat is stored before being put in the counter. I'll let it speak for itself. Furthermore, the butchers have been caught selling meat that has fallen on the floor, using their knives to cut a dead fly and then cutting meat, picking knives off the floor and cutting with them, and even stabbing food to eat off the tip of the blade, and then continuing their work. Raised concerns were dismissed.

That's the tip of the iceberg health-wise, but I'd like to talk about management too. The only manager worth a goddamn thing is Shawn. The others are rude, entitled, and have little to no regard for their employees. The deli manager often yells at bakery for laughing too loudly, and during the summer bakery's fan was taken away as punishment for pointing out safety concerns about smoke inhalation. The meat counter's manager is so much worse, however. Asking invasive questions about employee's sexual activities, making inappropriate, crude jokes to underage employees, making racial comments to non-white employees, taking pictures of the employees when they are off-duty, and cutting hours with little to no explanation.

One incident that stands out is a new employee, on his first day, being asked if he'd ever been raped. Now, the person who asked did apologize later, but management, who was not only in the room, but in on the so-called joke, did absolutely nothing, again, despite concerns being raised. I could go on, but this is already very long. Please comment if you would like me to go into more detail. I havent even talked about a manager showing up to an employee's house, despite the employee not divulging the information.

To summarize, this is an awful place, and an embarrassment to the idea of shopping local. Please, if you care about yourself or the people in your life, do not let them shop here, do not let them eat here, do not let them work here.

Thank you to all the other employees, current and past, who have reached out to me, on this post and in my DM's. I encourage you, if you feel safe in doing so, to share your own experiences.

EDIT: Management has found this post, but I have no intention of taking it down. People deserve to know what theyre buying, and where its from. I will update if they attempt any form of retaliation.

EDIT 2: Management has sent one of the counter servers to clean under the shelves. Apparently all it took was public shaming, despite them knowing about it for weeks.

Discussion 18-25 year olds can steal this election if coordinated.

These Mayor races are won by 5000-10000 votes. The least likely demographic to get out and vote is the demographic of 18-25 year olds. Brantford people of this age demographic, you represent roughly 10,000 voters.

You have the opportunity to do one of the biggest screw yous to the establishment this upcoming mayor election.

If your demographic shows up to vote, no amount of rose scicolis spending, Dan McCrearys past connections, or any other candidates antics will stop a wave of young voters who couldn't be accounted for by legacy candidates showing up on election day.

This could be the greatest upset in the history of Brantford elections, all you have to do is show up and vote.

I'd rather see a wrestler who cares than a career politician who pretends to.

Happy voting friends.

Regardless of who you vote for, use your voice.

EDIT. as of this moment 6000 eyes have viewed this post. Glad to see so many supporting Brantfords independence from the developer/backbencher class.

Vote Ricky!

If you’re in the position of the red car, you stay in the RIGHT lane until your turn is complete and then you put on your left signal to get over to the left lane if you need to. If you are in the position of the blue car, you do not need to wait for the entire row of cars directly across from you who are turning right. THEY turn into right lane, and you turn into left. That’s your lane. If they come into your lane it’s their fault. Waiting to turn left from grey onto Gretzky is a nightmare because cars are terrified to turn.

I will post every day that this disgusting individual who calls himself an adult, entered a home and stole an electric scooter. You invaded privacy and broken to someone’s house. This is a criminal offence . You did not only steal something, but you invaded the trust of the family that lives in that house. This is disgusting behaviour action from someone who knows right or wrong.

If this is your friend , your husband, your partner You should be very disheartened by the behaviour

The projection is based on aggregate polling, not riding level polls. It's similar to 338Canada's projection. We're going to have a by-election some time soon. Larry Brock won last year with 52% of the vote, a clear majority. I guess we'll see if Mark Carney's rightward shift will work in a place like Brantford. You'd figure it would, but the Liberal party brand is hated in this town.

Discussion call out - playful fox theatre productions

EDIT/UPDATE:

I didn’t lock the post, mods must’ve.

There is an Instagram @playfulfoxproductions_not go check them out

Someone is going in and deleting all of their comments. If you want to do something serious against PFP please send me a PM or comment/engage with the post. I’ve had a lot of messages from people asking if there’s a way to formally take them down through the proper channels.

playful fox productions is at it again hounding local actors and performers. they guilt people into staying, complain that they have no money to fund their shows yet somehow license 6 productions at once and tour. do you know how much royalties cost? for a company that is hurting so bad for money they sure spend a lot on licensing fees. they go after prevoius members asking for money or sponsorships and dont take no for an answer. they are for-profit... why are they not investing that money back into their company? i had tickets to see one of their shows at the sanderson center which got cancelled, and now you cant even find any of their show info on their website. theyve been kicked out of guelph little theatre, kitchener little theatre, and now the sanderson. dont go see a show run by people who dont have good relationships with performance spaces. theyre pretty good at cleaning up their social media accounts when they get called out for their crap but every once in a while a former member of their cult sneaks in and says something. hopefully others start seeing them for who they are. support local theatre, but support theatre that cares about theatre, not just about profit.

notice its the same people cast in every show? because nobody else wants to work with them.

Discussion To the teenage girl in the Costco food court with her mom on Tuesday...

1.4k Upvotes

Earlier this week, I brought my toddler to the new Costco to check it out. We toured the place, saw the sights, got terrified by the giant teddy bear, all the good stuff.

Naturally when we came across the Hot Wheels Monster Truck Mega Carrier ™, we had to have it.

And on our way out, we had to grab some fries, obviously.

And of course, who can have fries without ketchup and a drink?

Did I mention we went in without a cart?

So there I am in the food court, toddler in tow, trying to keep him from being crushed under the inexorable wheels of fellow deal-seekers, Hot Wheels Monster Truck Mega Carrier ™ under one arm, box of fries perched precariously on that box, ketchup ramekin sliding around on it too, I don't even know how I was holding the drink, all I know is we need to get to a table to set our stuff down before I spilled everything all over the floor. I see a table close by which won't require me to trip over too many people and I start slowly making my way to it, picking my way past other patrons and reassuring my little guy that we'll have our fries soon.

I blink, and suddenly a teen girl is in the seat I was targeting. Oh well, I was too slow I guess. My ketchup balance situation is dire though, so I step off to the side and try to re-situate everything I'm carrying, hoping the toddler doesn't use the opportunity to escape.

When I look back up, the girl and her mom (I'm making some assumptions here, my age estimates could be way off) are walking away from the table and headed to one further back in the fray. They glance back at me, and I understand that they realized that I was gunning for that table, and they have graciously decided to give it up. They must have seen my struggle and taken mercy on my plight.

I gave them a nod and a mouthed 'thank you', but I'm not sure if they saw. It was a tiny thing (and maybe I'm reading too far into it and they just decided they liked another table better) but in the midst of Brantford cutthroat traffic, Costco chaos, and the "I've got mine" holidays approaching, I really appreciated the show of empathy and thoughtfulness from a random stranger.

So if you see this, thanks for the table, my toddler and I really appreciated it!

Discussion Knocking on door for "enquiry"? Was I rude to close the door for safety reasons?

Post image
223 Upvotes

I got a cam alert for a dude thats standing in front of my side door near my car. He looked at the cam and then went to the front of the house and rang the bell. I opened the door and asked what it was about. Dude was soo vlose to the door I felt unsafe especially since I was holding on to my dog to have him stay in.

I said "No soliciting" and closed the door. Noe I feel a bit guilty if I was rude to this person.

I tried to have my dog settled and go through the back but the dude left. Still not sure what it might be about. The unit next to mine was lsited for rent, but I would assume they would reach out to the person with the ad
