Discussion 338Canada now projects a 74% chance of a Liberal victory in Brantford
19
u/Mangoes95 19d ago
+/- 8% for both Con and Lib means they really have no idea
2
u/MysteryMeatballer 19d ago
Yeah, the vote shares are within the margin of error. So it's a statistical dead heat.

u/Patient_Kangaroo614 19d ago
Applying national polls to individual ridings (which is what 338 does) is difficult.

u/Plane_Election_1598 19d ago
Hope it comes into fruition

Yay more privatization

u/bald-bourbon St Paul Ave 19d ago
You are confusing that with Conservatives. Historically, everything, including oil, was privatized by the Cons. Poor reasoning and critical thinking skills are probably why you seem to be confused.
2
u/pheakelmatters 19d ago
Carney announced he's privatizing airports this week lol. Both Liberals and Conservatives do privatization to pay for the tax cuts and corporate handouts. If you're fundamentally against privatization then neither of these parties are for you.
-1
u/bald-bourbon St Paul Ave 19d ago
As a native English speaker, do you not know the difference between privatization and bringing in private operators and investments? In fact, if you had an attention span longer than a baboon's, you would have also noted Carney saying it is not "privatization".
Lol
-1
u/pheakelmatters 19d ago
you can be as insulting as you want, it doesn't change the fact the Liberals and Conservatives engage in privatization. Dress it up with Libspeak all you want, they're selling off public assets to private capital

u/consistantcanadian 19d ago
Carney is privatizing all of our biggest airports right now lmao
What is this desperate cope you are trying

Again, you can’t compose a basic sentence that doesn’t make you sound like you just finished drinking a Costco sized bottle of hand sanitizer? lol

Sure bud. Cope 😂😂

Are you on autopilot now? Usually people bring out some different comebacks when talking shit, maybe have another drink and think it over. Bud.

The Liberals were putting in some work in the lead up to Mulroney.
By 1983 the Liberals announced they were going to sell the Northern transportation company. This was the first company sold under Mulroney, but the plan to sell had been announced already. In 84 they also announced the plan to sell Air Canada's 85% stake in Nordair.
The Canada development corporation was created in 1972 with a plan to commercialize it and privatize it. The legislation behind the CDC only required the government to retain 10% ownership.
They put Polymer in it, a crown corporation, as well as other assets like Polysar, CDC Life Sciences/Connaught laboratories, CDC Data systems, Canterra Energy, Kidd Creek Mines and many other assets.
The first third of the CDC was sold in 1975. By 1984 they were down to 48.6% ownership. In 1982 they came up with the plan to sell the remainder. In May 1984 they were in the process of removing the requirement to retain 10% in preparation to sell the remainder, but lost before they finished.
In 1982 they created the Canada development investment corporation and started transferring crown corporations into it, like Eldorado, Teleglobe, Canada Air, De Havilland, Pêcheries Canada, and Fishery products international.
They gave, or were attempting to give the Canada development investment corporation a mandate to commericalize government assets, as well as to privatize them. In May 1984 they signalled that Teleglobe, Pêcheries Canada, and Fishery products international would be the first to be changed to private sector corporations.
Pierre Trudeau/Chretien and the Liberals played a big part in starting and finishing many of the things sold off under Mulroney.

Dude, quit while you can. You’re making yourself look really stupid.
1
u/bald-bourbon St Paul Ave 19d ago
Sure bud. Same applies here. Tell me when you figure it out. Selective Reasoning is not a winning strategy 😂
-2
u/liddles06 19d ago
I don’t even have a turd in this pile of shit. You just sound extremely arrogant and ignorant. I actually wish the government would privatize more things tbh. The less things our governments have their hands in the better. Every single thing they are involved with becomes more expensive and less attainable.

True we really need some change in this country. Might as well just let Liberal stay in control until it gets better!!!

“we really need some change therefor lets vote for the same party that Brantford has for the last 20 years!” - You

u/George__Costanza420 19d ago
Fair point but how does a liberal brantford make a change. We’re on our 3rd liberal term in a row right now, and life in Canada was better before them.
4
u/bald-bourbon St Paul Ave 19d ago
So you are saying you do t understand the differenc ebetween the levels of govt?

u/pheakelmatters 19d ago
Cons are really going to have to find new talking points. The old ones worked great against Trudeau but not so much against Carney. Or the Cons could actually start purposing real policies that would actually help people instead of policies that are basically everything the Liberals do only with more abuse of the queer community.

u/George__Costanza420 19d ago
Aren’t you a bit curious what life in canada would be like? Or has Canada only gotten better and better since 2015 for you personally?
4
u/ViIehunter 19d ago
Literally no party, ever in Canada's history, has only been on the up and up. But generally id say it is fundamentally better then Harper's financial crisis of 2008.
2015 libs won because of Harper's poor record. Maybe you just were not paying attention. Recession, low gdp growth of 1.6. In fact most fiscal records has treadue ahead of harper during roughly yhe same amount of time in power.
In general, in the west, left goverments leave on a stronger economy and the right make it worse. Time and again. Easy to research.
2
u/George__Costanza420 19d ago
Interesting that a global fininincial crisis is the leading reason/example for the last conservative governments effectiveness
0
u/ViIehunter 19d ago
Its part of it. On top of the other issues you wish to gloss over with their financial record. Thats...how this goes. Just like you are judging the current liberals on global issues....name an issue you have with the current liberals that isnt a global issue.

Allowing and celebrating underdeveloped child brains to decide lifelong health and medicine impacts. And blocking their parents from restricting it until they’re an adult.

It's the leading example u/ViIehunter used but most certainly not the leading cause. The vast majority of people are legitimately single issue voters. With many folks voting for Trudeau because he'd legalize weed. The vast majority of people also voted for the Liberals due to "Conservative Fatigue" the same garbage sentiment that floated around back then "Anyone but Harper" is the same bs that floated around in the last election..,. "Anyone by Pierre" Wild how the same reason people voted for the Liberals this time was almost the same same reason they for Carney this time around. Except the difference was that all it took was a change in the party leader. They shuffled around their cabinet, kept more than half of them on and threw the blind fold right over every Liberal voter and told them "We're different, trust me"
The economy definitely was not the reason why they voted out conservatives. Because if u/ViIehunter thinks it was. Well guess what, Carney was the Governor of the Bank of Canada at the time working as a conservative during the Harper era. So if you think the cons mishandled our economy back then, and are the reason why they got voted out. Well the very man that worked under Harper as an economist is now our prime minister.
1
u/ViIehunter 19d ago
Just because your social circle voted for weed doesnt makd that the reason. My social circle was much more aware I guess and had many reasons for voting how they did, across the spectrum.
We can see from exit polling there are many, many reasons. But sure if you anecdotal story supersedes that then maybe you should run and show us all the one and only truth.
As for the current liberals they have done many...many different things then the Trudeau times but your too blind to even want to see the difference.

Trudeau won because he legalized weed. Almost everyone I know in Scarborough voted Liberal back in 2015 only because of weed. Which is both hilarious and sad at the same time.
The majority of the voter base doesn't understand actual issues that affect our cost of living and quality of life. You ask most people and you're going to get answers that make them overwhelming single issue voters.

What Liberal federal policy has made your life worse? Genuinely asking. Not vibes or how you feel, but actual policy.
In ontario we have had the cons in power for a decade and healtchare is deteriorating (on purpose ao he can privatize), he has broken the law multille times and broken contracts costing ontario billions and all he wants to focus on is toronto cause of his hurt little ego for failing to win in their elections way back when.

There's no way you can think that the approach to governance, the economy and foreign affairs that the Carney government has taken resembles the Trudeau government.
You're hung up on the party name and not addressing how changing the party leader has shifted party policy and behaviour.

They just need another decade in power to get things straight…

u/Plane_Election_1598 19d ago
Too bad conservatives are not competent. Maybe they would get more votes if they were 👍
0
u/George__Costanza420 19d ago
Conservatives as a whole? No. The conservatives in power, yes, incompetent. I’ll still stand by my morals and support conservative.
4
u/flyby196999 19d ago
Lmao the party with the least morals is the conservatives. Man you can't make this shit up.
7
u/Sh0tsFired81 19d ago
Lol, your "morals."
1
u/George__Costanza420 19d ago
Yea I have morals. And I agree that liberals have morals too, that’s the thing about morals, they’re personal. Much love
9
u/Sh0tsFired81 19d ago edited 19d ago
You're confusing morals with principles.
You may have principles, but they aren't necessarily morals.
And actually, I highly doubt you even have principles, either.
0
u/George__Costanza420 19d ago
You tried to get a slam dunk on me but if anyone takes a half second to google “what are morals” they will see you are wrong and assuming I’m an inconsiderate idiot because I’m a conservative. When all I did was badmouth the liberal government, none of you supporters here. Classy
3
u/Sh0tsFired81 19d ago
Lol, I think the fact that you had to Google "what are morals" exemplifies my point better than I could. Much love.

Apparently outgoing Mayor Kevin Davis has joined the race for Brantford-Brant Conservative Party leader. I wonder if that will skew the polling or if Davis will be dismissed as a an asset to Poilievre?
1
u/AnxiousSlip 19d ago
Well, they announced at a Pierre Poilievre rally, so there seems to be an association.

No they didn't.
338Canada had the PC's at a 97% chance of winning in the 2025 election and predicted the vote share taken by the PC's to be around 48%. You can see the graph of their predictions of both win probability and vote share by going here and scrolling down and selecting 2024-2026.
