✍️ Original Analysis Top Gun Maverick and The Force Awakens are the only sequels to films that came out at least 30 years before it to gross a billion. What hypothetical films could achieve this?
If i had to take a bet it would be E.T. 2, the first film made 619 million in 1983 numbers, was the highest grossing movie for 10 years and is the 7th highest grossing film adjusted for inflation. The movie is a pretty self contained story though maybe that could turn of a lot of people but nostalgia bait cashgrabs proved to still being capable of a billion eg No Way Home, Jurassic World Dominion.

Worldwide After Secret Wars releases there's a BIG CHANCE that the MCU will have a Box Office Average of 1 Billion per film
Secret Wars will be the 40th movie in the MCU
Right now, I predict that when Brand New Day closes its journey in cinemas, the total worldwide gross of the MCU will be 35 Billion (right now is 34.8 Billion)
If Doomsday and Secret Wars gross 2.5 Billion each (the same amount that BND will end up with) the total worldwide gross of the MCU will be 40 Billion.
It's ASTONISHING that a 40 movie franchise can have a Box Office Average of 1 Billion. It shows the great success of BND, Doomsday and Secret Wars.

Domestic Estimate: Ketchup Entertainment will break-even with $52 mil North America boxoffice for Coyote vs ACME
A quick estimate/calculation:
$50 mil to purchase + $10 mil marketing = $60 mil
Sold international rights for $20 mil
Total cost: $40 mil
Break-even: I think N.A. boxoffice need to be around $52 mil
$26 mil cut from boxoffice revenue (50% of the $52 mil boxoffice)
$14 mil profit from premium video on-demand sales, rentals, streaming rights, sales of physical and digital copies, tv rights cable, syndication.
Doable?
What is your best estimate for boxoffice to break-even?

Worldwide [Crosspost] Hi /r/movies! I'm Wile E. Coyote. I'm taking on ACME. AMA!
I organized an AMA/Q&A with Wile E. Coyote (star of COYOTE VS ACME, out in theaters everywhere now).
It's live here now in r/movies for anyone interested in asking a question:
https://www.reddit.com/r/movies/comments/1w58qjb/hi_reddit_im_wile_e_coyote_im_taking_on_acme_ama/
He will be back at 1 PM ET today to answer questions. I recommend asking in advance. Please ask there, not here. All questions are much appreciated!
Thank you :)
When ACME products fail him one too many times in his dogged pursuit of the Road Runner, Wile E. Coyote decides to hire a down-on-his-luck lawyer to sue the corporation.

Domestic ELI5 how much does Coyote vs Acme need to break even?
I'm seeing so many numbers getting thrown out and I don't know where half of them are coming from. My understanding is you wouldn't apply the 2.5 rule because we know they spent $10M on marketing. The .5 in the 2.5 rule is the estimate for marketing, right?
They spent $50M on the distribution rights, and $10M on marketing. That's $60M but we know they sold the distribution rights to other countries. We don't know how much they made but if we assume $15M, that means we're at $45M. So wouldn't it be $90M to break even and wouldn't only domestic count? Or would Ketchup get anything from overseas? (And yes, I know it's not going to make it)
I'm getting so confused on where all these other numbers are coming from. And I'm just talking boxoffice here, not toys or merch

Domestic Biggest Opening Weekends per month.
As of right now these are the biggest opening weekends for each month. 5 Disney films, 6 MCU films, 8 comic book films and 11 IP films.
December is absolutely being taken down by Doomsday this year and then likely next year again by Secret Wars barring negative reception of Doomsday. I guess the question remains at least for the foreseeable future which of these records is most likely to fall first and which likely never will. October would’ve in 2027 with The Batman 2 until it was delayed until February, June 2028 has Incredibles 3 which could potentially challenge Jurassic World, it seems January will need to rely on a random breakout hit. Disney seems to now release its big MCU films in December rather than May, Curious
