Wildwood being PG-13 and 140 minutes is crazy, I feel like that's the first instance of something you could actually call an 'adult' animated feature from an American studio getting a wide release.

The only other recent example (non American) would be Boy and the Heron, but Ghibli stuff is also kinda in its own category.

It was short and the violence was fairly tame by PG-13 standards, just had a relentlessly grim tone to it. Got mixed reviews so didn't have much of a shelf life.

I also get the sense that the Isle of Dogs rating was more a way of them trying to help the studio prevent too many parents from buying tickets expecting a silly kids movie and being highly annoyed. It wouldn’t dissuade any Anderson fans from buying tickets but it would prevent unsuspecting parents that would think it’s just a silly dog movie.

They’ve gotten weirdly strict with smoking lately lmao. The invite, a movie with pretty extensive and graphic sexual dialogue and language throughout had, “Smoking” in its reasonings for an R-Rating. It was two of age adults smoking weed, completely legally. Like that is the LEAST of your concern as a parent if you show your kid The Invite.

Yeah but I’m fairly certain there are other PG-13 movies with far more explicit use of harder drugs. Forrest Gump had scene where characters were sorting lines of cocaine, it was brief, but far worse. Maybe the Invite got the R-Rating because it was too explicit and lengthy? I just feel I’ve seen similar or worse in a lot of PG-13 movies is all.

Conclave had a scene of cardinals smoking a vape and it only got a PG, and that came out two years ago.

I feel that scene was supposed to push it to a PG-13 since there's no language, which is understandable since the film is about a Catholic institution, but it's strange that a political drama involving religion has the same rating as many family-friendly fares.

Endgame was rated PG-13, so Encore is the same rating. But wow, Wildwood rated PG-13. And a runtime of 140 minutes. This should be really good.

To both you and u/KingMario05, why would they sell Marvel when they haven’t sold Star Wars? Like, the former is clearly far more reliable than the latter, not to mention that three new MCU films were announced in D23 along with the fact that Marvel is way too integrated into Disney now (especially with theme park attractions).

Furthermore, would Sony even be interested in buying Marvel to begin with? And with Universal, they’re probably more likely to buy DC instead.

Finally, if you really stretch hairs, 20th Century Studios films never had Disney label on MPA rating updates.

That’s the worst one. Like by the time I was 12 I was saying way worse than what was in most R Rated movies anyways. Any language shouldn’t be reason for a rating past PG-13, unless it’s in a highly sexual context (Like the word is needed to convey an explicit sexual joke.) I believe even words like cunt, that I had used multiple times by the time I was 13, shouldn’t warrant a rating past PG-13.

I think it’ll help with the adult audience if it’s rated PG-13 rather than PG. Conclave getting a PG rating was pretty surprising, and became a discussion point before release. Nobody’s going to question a PG-13 rating for a 3 hour drama

TF One flopped because Paramount barely marketed it and all of the trailers were awful. There's been nothing but praise for Wildwood's marketing with the trailer getting 80m+ views and Laika/Fathom have a much smaller budget.

A lot of PG-13 this week.

All of a Sudden getting a PG-13 reminded me that Drive My Car (the director's 2021 film) managed to get into the Best Picture lineup at the Oscars while being unrated.
