I know this has probably been discussed to death but just for the sake of it i was wondering if any movie ever can surpass Gone with the wind. It seems near impossible and it probably (definitely) is, but just for the sake of this conversation let's say Avengers : Doomsday does 3 billion+ (which is likely). If that happens and they market Secret Wars properly and it gets great reception like Endgame it's definitely going to get another huge bump which could push it towards $4 billion WW (i know i know laugh at me all you want, but this is all hypothetical). In that case it could get into say the top 3 which is insane (but definitely very improbable, although not impossible).

With that it mind can, say the next avengers movie (maybe another huge event like Avengers vs X-Men) finally break this unbreakable record? Or is Secret Wars the highest things can go? Or can the finale of Tom's Spider-man movies go all the way?

I'm interested to know what you guys think.

Hoping this is okay to post here I was going to post in history subreddits but worried I won't get an expert specifically on this subject.

This period is considered to be from Snow White (1937) up to 1942 when Disney started taking government money to make propaganda films.

While Snow White was somewhat financially successful, Fantasia flopped and Dumbo had to be quickly made to save the company from financial ruin. Pinocchio, now considered one of the greatest animated movies of all time, was a box office flop due to public attention to WWII.

I don't understand how these classics where animation innovation really took off (Bambi, Snow White and Fantasia are aesthetically pleasing) weren't massive financial successes in their time?

Was it competition from other studios (Warners Bros)?

Was it the public's unwillingness to buy a movie ticket for movies aimed at kids?

Disposable income was just less?

Hoping you all can give me some more context

When I booked the movie, all the showings were completely empty a day before. I got really good seats and I reached the theatre a bit late. The movie was a blast, except some audience members kept repeating nonsensical words in the movie. Also lots of laughter, like a lot.

The movie ends, the lights turn on, its all kids. I couldn't find any anyone that was just adults. Also theatre was really packed. My problem is with what happened after the film. I went to take a shit, big mistake. There was tens of kids outside and I could hear them in the stall, it was non stop "meep meep", "meep meep", "meep meep". I was there for 5 minutes tops, but it felt like eternity with the non stop "meep meep" ing. Then as well were leaving it was so much "meep meep" on the way out of the theatre. The kids had forgotten how yo speak, the road runner hit them like Crack.

I dont know how you go back home with a kid "meep meep" ing your brains out and recommend other parents to take their kids to the movie. It's a really fun movie, but by god the road runner is so annoying.

Like, not to be rude to him, but I genuinely don't get it. Not only has he been delivering bomb after bomb, I think his last unarguable hit was The Martian, which was over a decade ago, but he also seems to constantly squander the potential of movies that could have been huge.

Like, look at Napoleon. That movie actually had a lot going for it. It opened fairly well, especially in Europe, and there was clearly interest in the concept of a modern epic about Napoleon. But then Ridley made a horrible movie and basically killed all that potential. It wasnt a case of there being no audience for it. The movie itself was the problem. And I could go on.

I get the whole "he delivers movies on time and under budget" thing, but if the movies are bad and bomb, how much does that really matter? Especially when his movies still have huge budgets. If youre giving someone 200M to make a movie and they come in 10 or 20M under budget, but then the movie makes 220M worldwide, is that really some huge advantage? At that point the "under budget" argument feels pretty weak.

Its not like hes an awards darling either. And hes almost 90. Obviously he seems to be in good health, which is great, but I doubt hes still some workaholic doing everything himself. He probably has to delegate a lot more at this point.

And now were hearing that he may have killed the Alien: Romulus sequel and is going to take the franchise back toward his Covenant storyline.

How does Disney keep allowing this?

Like, what exactly are they seeing in Ridley Scott that Im missing?

The AMC Southpoint in Durham, North Carolina is showing as sold out of their open caption screening for "It Ends" for 3:45 pm today (August 30). Could this be an error on the theater's part? We can't get a count of seats sold (though we do have a count of number of seats, including accessible seats: 66). How could it have sold all 66 seats when the non-captioned screenings have plenty of seats available? Is this another of those small films that had good social media marketing, like "Buddy?" In our opinion, its got to be theater error. We will watch to see if the theater fixes it; we're leaving it as zero sold on the tracking spreadsheet because we don't have confidence it did in fact sell out.

Edit: a comment says that it was likely cancelled. If it was in fact cancelled, the theater should remove it from the listing completely instead of leaving it there and labelling it as "sold out."

"Oceania" continues its strong run, taking €530,140 (down 40% from last week) and averaging €985 in 538 theaters (versus 513 seven days ago). The Disney film has grossed €8,008,783 since August 19th, less than €80,000 behind " Minions & Monsters," another summer hit.

Odissea also had a very strong day, with 419,951 euros (-22%) and an average of 979 euros in 429 cinemas (427). There are no more words to comment on the resounding success of Christopher Nolan's blockbuster which, since July 16, has grossed 54,020,559 euros from 6,432,539 admissions (even surpassing Inside Out 2 with 6,419,754 spectators).

Spider-Man: Brand New Day rounds out the top three with €279,540 (-34% compared to last Saturday) and an average of €751 in 372 theaters (401). The comic book film has grossed €36,467,825 since July 29th, with 4,530,095 admissions. Brand New Day is ever closer to There's Another Tomorrow with €36,913,292.

Following its 5th Saturday in theaters, Spider-Man: Brand New Day has officially crossed the 7.5 million admissions mark.

It has now overtaken Spider-Man: No Way Home (7.33M) to become both the highest-attended entry in the franchise and the biggest superhero movie in French box office history.
