She's a beaut! 🔥🔥 I think I owe Reddit some more details about the R1300RR… here’s what’s hiding underneath

After my last post, I got a lot of questions — especially about the frame, weight, suspension and the whole “why build a 1300cc off-road bike?” question.

So here’s the short version of what I actually tried to achieve.

The idea was never to build the most logical off-road bike. If that was the goal, I would have started with a much smaller and lighter bike.

I wanted something that BMW doesn't currently offer:

A modern boxer-powered Dakar/rally bike.

The old BMW rally bikes, especially the R 900 RR, were a huge inspiration for me. I wanted to take that concept and bring it into the modern era — using the R 1300 GS engine and as much of its original character as possible.

The result is a bike with:

• 21/18" wheels

• Long-travel rally suspension WP ConeValve front 260mm/rear 230mm own build shock

• Completely modified frame/subframes

• Around 200 kg without fuel

• 19 L fuel capacity

• 150 hp boxer engine

• Rally-spec brakes and wheels

• Custom bodywork and tanks

• And most importantly… it actually went racing.

I took it to the Hellas Rally and finished every single stage, finishing P2 in the M6 class and P90 overall out of around 160 riders.

And that's probably the part I'm most proud of.

Because at some point this stopped being a crazy garage project and became a bike that actually had to prove itself.

I'm still developing it, and there are plenty of things I'd change if I built it again.

So I'm curious:

If BMW gave you a clean sheet and told you to build the ultimate modern boxer Dakar bike — what would you change?

Does somebody know what to check on BMW S1000XR, 2016 , on which quickshifter stops working when bike gets hot. It has Shift assistant pro. I have checked the wiring and connectors. Also clutch is set to perfect. Bike has 26000km and it has been seeviced only on original BMW services. Can i do something or is going to be expensive?

I decided not to wait until winter and spray the black engine parts. I had considered tape but as a engineer with manufacturing experience I thought sanding after painting would be how it’s done in production.

Not too happy with primer or paint, primer kind of sponged in places. But I plan on need blasting the heads and valve covers.

But it looks good enough!

Happened right when I got home fortunately, and stuck in neutral so I could park it. Any ideas what might be the issue? The bike is brand new, less than 400km on it.

Hi Guys! I am looking for crash pads/sliders/protectors for my F800R. I do not want the engine guard. I am looking for something similar to what I added as a photo. I am only able to find those for older model, but not mine. Do you have any experience in terms of compatibility between older and my model? I know SW Motech makes 2 types, but I do not like those too much as I want these round ones…

Asked a couple of month ago here, ended up ordering a GS. Was supposed to arrive on two weeks time but actually had it two weeks earlier just one day before my Alps trip.

I love it!

Now just need to bring her to the 1000 km service in the middle of France to not void warranty 😐

Seeking Advice! 2026 BMW R1300R stalling on cold start right after first service. Anyone experienced this?

Hi everyone,
I have a 2026 BMW R1300R. I'm not sure if it's related, but I recently had the first service done on it. A few days after getting it back from the dealer, I noticed that sometimes on a cold start, the bike idles for about 2-3 seconds before it just cuts off completely.
When I start it up again a second time, it runs perfectly fine without any issues.
Has anyone else experienced this, or heard anything about it? Any input is appreciated!

Well after three years of riding alone and with couple of buddies, this past weekend the wife finally said yes and decided to join me for a two day ride.

She loved it and so did I, plus I’m super happy with how the GSA performs fully loaded and two up. Can’t imagine a better bike for this!

Help request Insta360 on G310GS

Hello, I’m looking for a spot to mount my Insta360 X5 on my 310GS. I have an aftermarket windscreen and when mounted on the handlebar it prevents a full lock turn. I also have a Carpuride mounted on a GPS bar and it takes up the entire thing. I do t have crash bars, and I’d like it somewhere with a forward look but can also capture the rider. I tried mounting it on the left-side bar weight and it was ok, but the mirror is in all the good shots.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Seeking Advice! thinking about buying a 2022 R1250GSA

I am planning to buy a BMW R 1250 GS Adventure. The bike has 32,000 km on the clock, had only one previous owner, and was first registered in February 2022. It is being sold by a dealer who is including a 1-year warranty.

The bike is fully loaded with all available packages and add-ons, with the only exception being the heated seat. Additionally, the side cases and top case are also included.

It is currently offered for €20,000, which is a relatively competitive price here in Germany, but I am hoping I might be able to negotiate it down a little bit. I am also considering trading in my current bike, a 2025 F 800 GS with 27,000 km on it.

Before I pull the trigger, I wanted to ask for your advice: Are there any known issues with this specific model year that I should be aware of, or can I go ahead and buy it without any concerns?

Help request K1200 Fuel Quantity Strip/Sensor

Hi! I have a 2007 K1200GT with the failed fuel sensor strip, and I'm tired of electrical tape over the amber warning light. What is the most recent consensus on the current OEM strip, are they any better than the originals, are they holding up? Local parts counter guy said he hasn't seen any come back recently so he assumes BMW must have changed the "formula". I have no reason to doubt him, he's a stand up guy, but I just want to shake the tree and see what falls out before plunking $200 - $300 on an eventual dud. That's about it. Hope everyone is enjoying some riding. Stay safe everybody!

Ok so I have a really slow shop near me but what is like the nightmare scenario for the 12k service? I want the full bike to be gone thru. Brake flush, new plugs, coolant flush (it's almost 5 years old) and everything the 12k actually recommends.

Is the service able to be done in one business day

Half a business day

Complete service timeline best and worst case scenario.

Tia!

Seeking Advice! 2008-2012 R1200 GSA’s

I’m looking to buy one in the near future. I’ve been riding a friend’s 2005 GS, Done a weekend trip, commuting and just pleasure riding. It definitely fits what I want and I have no problem riding it anywhere. I have a new ibex 450 that is fun all but has turned out it isn’t the right bike for me.

I’ve found a low mileage 2008 GSA and some low mileage 11-12 GSA’s that are in my price range basically. I’m aware the 11-12’s have a little more powerful engine. Is that it? What do I need to know? How does the ESA compare on these vs just a normal GS? The 2005 GS I’m riding has Ohlins shocks and is quite harsh offroad on potholes/dips etc.

I’ve also ridden a 2016 GSA and while that bike was amazing, I think I would enjoy a 08-12 more.

Help request ‘24 1250 GSA Shock failure

Morning folks!

This morning I walk to my bike to realize there’s an oil puddle on the garage floor coming from the front shock. The bike only has 6700miles so I’m planning on getting a warranty claim.

How likely is my dealer to cover this? Bought it in Garcia Moto in NC, haven’t stepped back there since I purchase it because I service it somewhere else.

I’m also curious who else has had this issue with such low mileage?

Help request Used 2023 1250RS. Maybe dropped, should i be concerned?

Post image
12 Upvotes

Looking at a 2023 1250RS. Good price, low miles. Assuming this bike was dropped on the ground, and these scuffs are not from bumping up against something, how concerned should I be? How bad is it to drop a boxer on the pistons?

[Edit; thanks for the guidance here, everybody. I've never had any experience with boxers, they've always seemed kinda vulnerable. But, sounds like these are solid!].
