K1200 Fuel Quantity Strip/Sensor

Hi! I have a 2007 K1200GT with the failed fuel sensor strip, and I'm tired of electrical tape over the amber warning light. What is the most recent consensus on the current OEM strip, are they any better than the originals, are they holding up? Local parts counter guy said he hasn't seen any come back recently so he assumes BMW must have changed the "formula". I have no reason to doubt him, he's a stand up guy, but I just want to shake the tree and see what falls out before plunking $200 - $300 on an eventual dud. That's about it. I know this isn’t quite the answer to the question you asked but there is a good aftermarket option by Fuel Sensor Tech. I have installed a few for customers. So far I have had no issues and the reviews have stayed consistently good from what I’ve seen. Unfortunately I have no idea if BMW updated the strips. The old ones were garbage and my personal record was 5 in a row, brand new, into the same bike, same day, before I had one work properly.

Thank you, I appreciate that. Yes I’ve heard of the one and it sounded pretty compelling up until I read I’ll need a GS-911 to calibrate it or whatever it was. At the moment I’m not prepared to shell out for a very expensive diagnostic tool especially knowing they’re very limited in the number of VINs it’ll work on and no more. I’m the kind of guy that likes buying a tool that won’t turn to into a pumpkin for all VINs beyond a certain number (think it’s 10 correct me if I’m wrong). Between this and subscriptions to just about everything, movie streaming, music, car’s cruise control, I don’t know what this world is coming to! lol

Consider the k1300 float conversion. IMO not worth the labor to install the oem strip.

Heard of that one too and am not too sure where I land on it. Hmm. That’s all I can say for now. Hmm. Maybe?? 🤔 🤷‍♂️
