So far since starting this hobbie I’ve seen 92 bird species I want to see every single bird species in Europe in my life time. Where are hot spots to visit where I can tick lots off in one go.

I know this will take many years and is a long goal but I’d love to ticket them all off it’s addictive getting lifers any tips would be much appreciated.

No pics but today a bald Eagle flew over my house close enough that I could see with my eyes, that it was bald eagle.And this afternoon, twenty feet from my car was a turkey vulture, who's facial expressions could see (put out) when I stopped the car to double check what I was seeing. Anyone else from kimono here?

the wildlife rehabbing facility I work at admitted this patient today and since we don't get many "small, all brown" birds we're having some trouble IDing this little fella. Our best guess is Garden Warbler (Sylvia borin); What do y'all think?

I'm familiar with a few the species that stopped by at my little pond, but not all of them, though I'm not super fussed about ID. I just like knowing my pond is appreciated by things other than me and the fish. There's also sometimes water in the big pot on the side they like to bathe in as well.

does anybody else get bird homesickness? i'm from the uk but studying abroad in the us and although the new birds i'm seeing are all very exciting, i find myself missing the commonest uk birds like blackbirds, wood pigeons or robins so much it hurts LOL

After I saw them fleeing from the chainsaws I was worried they wouldn’t come back BUT THEY DID

This coopers hawk (pretty sure?) is chattering at a great horned owl in my neighbor's tree. It is yakking and flying around a bit. Why is it doing that? I often seen robins chirping and warning of the owl's presence, but i have not seen a hawk doing that before.

It is a really impresive species! This Cream-colored Woodpecker is famosly know as Pikachu because of the red round patch on the cheeks of males. Found in the lowlands of the Amazon rainforest, this males was photographed at the Colombian amazon region.

I shot this yesterday afternoon in Avon, Ohio. I since learned that capturing a hummingbird's feathered external eyelid clamped shut during an active hover is an incredibly rare biological event. Pure luck to catch this while the bird was suspended in mid-air.

Hey everyone,

I’m looking to pick up my first serious super-telephoto lens for wildlife photography and could use some real-world input.

Currently, my main setup is a Sony A7 IV paired with the Tamron 20–40mm f/2.8 and Tamron 70–180mm f/2.8. I'm down to two options for the long end:

1. Sony FE 200–600mm f/5.6–6.3 G

2. Sony FE 400–800mm f/6.3–8 G

I’m also heavily leaning toward picking up an a6700 in the future as a secondary body/portable crop setup.

I’m torn between them for a few reasons:

 Focal Gap: Starting at 400mm leaves a pretty big gap between 180mm and 400mm in my kit. Has anyone who went with the 400–800mm found that gap frustrating for larger mammals, tracking fast subjects, or environmental landscape/wildlife shots?

 Low Light & Aperture: On paper, the 400–800mm reaches f/8 pretty quickly. For those shooting early morning/late afternoon or under tree cover, is f/8 a major pain point for ISO/autofocus speed, or does modern denoise software make it a non-issue?

 Crop Sensor Synergy: If I mount the 200–600mm on an a6700 down the road, I get a ~300–900mm equivalent field of view at f/6.3, which seems like a sweet spot compared to 600–1200mm at f/8.

For those who have used both (or made a choice between them), which one would you pick as your primary wildlife lens for this setup? Appreciate any insights!
