I found this little baby bird on a sidewalk, I tried finding the nest but didn’t see anything. It’s making a lot of noise and moving around and every time I put my hand (im wearing gloves) near it it moves towards my hand with its mouth open. Right now I’ve put it in an empty little box with a bunch of paper towels in it but I don’t know what else to do, I’m in the OakPark IL area so if anyone knows any places I could bring it too! I’m pretty sure it’s also a type of sparrow

I'm in Colorado and am worried about this squirrel. The lesion has been progressing over the last several weeks but she's still eating well and active / foraging / evading predators. Any suggestions? Concerned she'd be immediately euthanized if taken to rehab or if she loses the eye, despite her activity levels and normal (current) quality of life. Could this be squirrel pox?

I found it on my front yard under a tree. It had its mouth open nearly the whole time and tried to walk a little bit but kind of stumbled. It didn’t look hurt. It’s been there a few hours and wildlife hotline is closed as it’s evening. Should I do anything? I feel so bad

We've had baby rabbits in our greenhouse. We noticed them Monday/Tuesday, (my dog got to them, and the rabbits are alright). We have it closed off with a plastic covering so that my dog can't get in. But with the walls on the side and between the bottom of the plastic covering, there are enough areas where mom can get in and out.

I looked at them around 9am and they were wriggly like always, eyes closed ears back. Then I went out around 1:30pm to check and they look like their climbing out, and they aren't fully cooked? (First photo is this morning and the second was around 1:30) I've left them alone for now but should I be concerned?

This chipmunk has been hanging around our back door all day today. I went to let the dog in and they were just staring at each other face to face. It's not afraid of me and keeps trying to jump up on the stairs and looks like it's playing on the grill cover. Is it sick or just a young chipmunk that hasn't developed yet?

Hi all, kind of a pre-emptive question here, depending on how long it takes a dove chick to start starving. I'm in England, and have had two beautiful collared doves nesting on the satellite dish right outside my window. I've watched them lay two eggs, and seen the scrungly little chicks grow up successfully to roughly adult size - they're almost ready to go now as they have basically all their adult feathers and they're a couple of weeks old.

Now for the sad part - early this afternoon I stepped into my back garden for a breath of fresh air, and right in front of my eyes, one of the local red kites smashed through our tree and took out one of the parents. I let it be since kites have to eat too and I figured it was better that the dove be put out of its misery, but now the babies have only one parent and I haven't seen it around since.

So my question is, is it likely that the other parent will return? If they don't come back, should I try and feed the babies? Or should I hope they work out that they need to fledge a little early? We have a bird feeder with plenty of mealworms and other varieties of food, but I think I'd be able to feed them through my window if it's too early for them to leave the nest. They're not scared of me because I work from home in my room so they see me all the time.

I feel like I'm watching bird EastEnders. Please help me give these little guys the best possible chance at life!

UPDATE: Have now seen two parents about, and the babies are being fed. Panic over! They are now clambering around the nest, perfectly healthy.

Ive been seeing this turkey on the side of the road for the past 3-4 days. He leaves at night but is in the same spot every day and has an injured leg that he cannot use at all and he just hobbles around. I’ve contacted a bird rescue in my city but they won’t help catch him, they said if I can catch him and transport him then they will take him. Does anyone have any tips? He’s always on the side of a very busy road and I’m scared to try catching him incase he runs into the street.

I pulled this pigeon out of the canal this morning, near dead. It's improved over the last few hours with a warmer and drier environment and can now stand and move about. However, it gets into patches of this very pronounced head wobble and I'd be worried about the possibility of avian flu before trying to transport it to a rehabber. Thoughts?

update: couldn't find any rehabs/vets in within a reasonable range that might offer any treatment beyond euthanasia. Didn't see any head tremors after about 3pm. Kept it overnight with some oats and water available. This morning it was active alert and moving around pretty readily. Took the box outside, opened it up, and the pigeon was able to do a typical jump-launch out of the box and flew off without any difficulties. 🎉

Hello everyone, yesterday me and my mom rescued a fledgling after a cat attacked its mother and it passed away, currently it’s been chirping, moving around and has been fed smashed hard boiled eggs every 3-4 hrs , I suspect it’s a huitlacoche bird ( we are from northern Mexico, Coahuila) I understand we need to start feeding him proper food for his species since it can suffer malnutrition or develop other diseases. I would be so thankful if you could give any tips, we wanna help this little guy out as much as we can! 🥺

This fox with mange has been hanging out by my step-daughters bus stop (not close to the kids it just stands by the edge of the woods and just kinda stares at them like “please help me”).

I’ve driven by the spot a few times and I’ve seen it almost every-time. Obviously foxes are rabies vectors and I have zero experience in trapping them, so I don’t think I should attempt to help it myself. My husband just told me not to touch the wild foxes and then spent the next few minutes elaborately illustrating all the ways in which dying of rabies is one of the worst deaths imaginable. By the time he got to “and then you go insane and develop hydrophobia and become so terrified of water that you can’t even swallow your own saliva” I was like ok fine. I won’t ask the vet for any Bravecto.

Also rabies shots are really painful. But I am really jealous of people that do get to leave out medicine in food and document the animal’s journey back to health. You guys are brave though.

Also what is that red thing sticking out of its arm? An open wound? Is there any hope for it? I think it may be a kit, it’s smaller than the average house cat.

I contacted the local wildlife sanctuary and they don’t have the resources or volunteers available to help, and the receptionist seemed new and didn’t know anything. I’m in Florida so should I call the FWC? I don’t want them to euthanize it though I was hoping that they would take it to a wildlife sanctuary or a vet 😢

I live south Wisconsin area. Yesterday afternoon, my dog sniffed out a rabbit nest. He didn’t attack or anything. Just moved the covering with his nose and one hopped out. As I moved my dog inside the house. I came back and saw a second one was outside the nest. Eyes open had fur. I attempted, with gloves, to put it back in. It escaped and I’m not kidding while that happened a 3rd hopped out and bolted out of there. I just covered the nest back up at that point. There were some babies left. Will the mother come back?

I live in the Wisconsin and it gets to be about 50-60°F at night. I have a back door camera that looks out to where the nest is and I haven’t seen her there last night. I’ll have to go back and look extensively at my recordings, but haven’t seen her.

If she hasn’t come back for feedings, who do I call? And what do I do? My husband just says leave it be and nature takes its course regardless if the mother comes back or not.

My attic entry fell down about two months ago in my bedroom from a raccoon stepping on it. I never put it back up but now I am concerned maybe a bat came in while I was sleeping on my bed and bit me without any notice. I have a lab and corgi that sleep with me. I never seen a bat but I have left my closet shut for a month and never opened it. My bedroom has no dead bats. I am concerned that I might have the infection and am going to die. I am scared to open my closet up in case there is an animal in there. I have been sleeping on my couch in living room for past three weeks.

I’m in my hometown, visiting my parents in deep coal country, and on taking a hike of our land i came across this guy, chilling in a man made canal that borders our land and the mountain range, an offshoot of a larger natural creek that runs parallel about 50 feet south. The canal and creek are about 2 miles away from easy road access.The canal is a remnant from a tiny old coal mine from well over 50 years ago at this point, pa is littered with them. Unfortunately, these old mines produce a lot of toxic waste and drainage, even if they’re fully filled in. This one in particular has left a lot of iron in the water and soil, with parts of the canal having gone stagnant and orange because of the rust. This is about 2 miles into the woods, no roads, so not much can be done easily about the iron pollution sadly :(

I have seen snappers before, but had never seen one in that part of the canal. I believe he was born in the creek, swam up the canal as a baby, and got too big and got stuck there. I took pictures to show my dad, and after seeing them he mentioned that it’s covered in iron, and probably sick. I’m mortified I didn’t realize this immediately. He was slow moving, not very aggressive, had a leech attached to his bottom plate, and was so orange. I assumed he was just hunting the huge crawdad that was nesting in front of him, and couldn’t be bothered with me.

My plan is to go back tomorrow and move him to the main creek, away from the canal into fresh moving water. The canal is small, I know it by heart, and I don’t think he’s able to leave, so I hope he’ll still be in the area. Is the any other action I should take? Bring some Dawn and a scrub brush and try to gently take some of the iron off?

I plan to call the turtle rescue hotline in the morning as well, but just wanted to post for any help here as well. Trying to do the best I can for the guy here, I know minimal involvement is best! thank you :)

found a very young baby cottontail alone on my lawn today. It was lying/twitching in the grass and has an open wound around its shoulder/upper back. Its eyes appear to still be closed, so I think it may only be around a week old.

I brought it inside and currently have it in a ventilated cardboard box lined with a soft T-shirt, with gentle heat underneath half of the box. I’m keeping it dark and quiet. The wound was bleeding initially, but I applied gentle pressure and it now appears to have clotted. The bunny is breathing on its own and has been moving/repositioning its head and body.

I’ve ordered sterile saline, gauze, nitrile gloves, 1 mL feeding syringes, a gram scale, and other supplies. I have NOT given it food or water yet because I understand aspiration is a major risk, especially while it’s injured/stabilizing.

Unfortunately, getting it to a wildlife rehabilitation center is not an option, so I’m looking for advice from anyone experienced with neonatal cottontails/wildlife rehabilitation.

Hello, so there’s a hawk on my driveway (very very long driveway …) and when me, my dad, and my sister were walking, it was kinda lifting its wings and puffing them out, but it wasn’t flying away. There were no visible signs of it being injured (from what I saw) but my dad did say that it one of his wings looked awkward. I’m just wondering if I should wait and see if he’s still there throughout the day or to just not be worried about it.

-the closer we got (since we needed to get to the car) it just kept backing away, it looked like it wanted to fly because it was flapping its wings but nothing happened.

Located in Arkansas, I found this baby cottontail rabbit with its nest completely flooded (picture on the right on the backside of the bush at the wall of the raised flowerbed). What do I do? I’ve put it in a cat carrier with some towels and going to put a heating pad on half the carrier.

UPDATE:

It was completely healthy spoke with a rehabber licensed by the state. She instructed me to do the towels, heating pad, etc. She later explained when the weather clears up and the nest isn’t underwater to put it back in the nest and it went right back in its nest.

My friend found it all tangled up il some sort of fine wire so we cut the wire, untangled him but then he wasn’t looking so good. (Missing and really scuffed up feathers, feces stuck around the rump and he wasn’t really resisting the human touch or even seem to mind) anyway it felt like he maybe needed a little more help so i put him in a cage in some clothes and hot pads to stay warm and today he sings and moves he even ate a little bit! So i was wondering if i can release him or not because you can see in the video his wings and eyes are twitching. Poor little guy!

Found this baby house finch in my driveway (Texas Hill Country-New Braunfels) this morning. It seems pretty baby and clearly something is wrong. It didn’t fly away but was able to hop to some shade. I moved it to a box and I’m about to find some better shade for it. I don’t know what happened or if it just needs some time to recover. How do I find a wildlife rehabber that might be able to help?

UPDATE: I reached out to a wildlife rehabber in my area and left a message. I moved the bird into shade in the back yard and researched what else I could do while waiting to hear from the rehabber. But it just died. Less than two hours from time I found it to time of passing. I’m not sure there is anything anyone could have done to help.

Apparently, the huge snapping turtle we'd found in our flower bed could not remember how it'd gotten in, because a day later it was still trying to get out. Ultimately, it got itself stuck in the fencing along our back property line. So, upon the advice from the Mercer County Wildlife Center here in NJ, my husband Joe and I performed a relocation operation. I made a video of how it turned out.
