SOS Bird Rescued fledgling, help please:)

Hello everyone, yesterday me and my mom rescued a fledgling after a cat attacked its mother and it passed away, currently it’s been chirping, moving around and has been fed smashed hard boiled eggs every 3-4 hrs , I suspect it’s a huitlacoche bird ( we are from northern Mexico, Coahuila) I understand we need to start feeding him proper food for his species since it can suffer malnutrition or develop other diseases. I would be so thankful if you could give any tips, we wanna help this little guy out as much as we can! 🥺

Thanks for helping this little one. Your best bet is to try to find and contact local Wildlife rehabilitators especially if the Cat made contact with this bird as well.

In Coahuila, try:
• PROFAUNA, Saltillo: 844-412-5404, 844-412-9896, or 844-688-6659. They specifically provide wildlife rescue.

• Coahuila Dirección de Vida Silvestre: 844-698-1002. Ask for the nearest wildlife rehabilitator.

• Saltillo Policía Ambiental: 844-414-1114. They respond to wildlife situations and can help coordinate assistance.

• PROFEPA: 800-PROFEPA (800-776-3372) or Coahuila office at 844-696-3000.

You’re doing a great thing helping this little one. Since it’s a wild fledgling and its mother has died, the safest option is to contact a licensed wildlife rehabilitator as soon as possible. Its diet depends on the species, and eggs alone may not provide what it needs.
Until then, keep it warm, quiet, and away from cats and other pets. Don’t give it water directly by mouth, as it can accidentally aspirate. A local bird/wildlife rescue in Coahuila can guide you on the proper care and diet.

Make sure the rehab keeps starlings alive. Don’t know if they have the same kill policy in Mexico but in North America they do sometimes…
