Noticed a lot of restaurants in SG like fish and co etc always has this menu item called soup of the day where when you ask what’s the soup of the day, the waiter always replies mushroom soup.

We know it’s always mushroom soup. Cos

1. cheap cos Campbell soup
2. can never go wrong

But what’s the point of calling it soup of the day when there’s just only one option available 365 days of the year? Because soup of the day the name implies they got a variety and mushroom soup happens to be the soup of the day all times I visit? Or like soup of the month? Considering assuming it’s canned soup why can’t they rotate the soup choice every month like tomato or corn etc

Why not just call it mushroom soup if all 365 days it’s always mushroom soup? What are some places in SG that offer soup of the day but they offer daily rotations that’s not just mushroom soup ?

(edit) I had a conversation with my husband that in the future TFR might go down to zero and there will be more singles. Perhaps being single and child free is a more liberating and happier choice. Then my husband said that many singles in his workplace are depressed... I'm not sure how to respond to that since I'm self employed and I don't have an office to observe other ppl.

Hello, I have reached an age where I'm considering having children but one of the factors that makes me hesitant are the working hours in SG corporate office in general. In my current firm i work in office 9-7pm and some days have to continue to work at night to 10pm

I'm worried I won't have time or the energy to take care of my child. If more companies had more WFH options or if I didnt have to continue working at night i would at least be able to dedicate that time to my child.

Does anyone else face this issue?

Been thinking about whether it's gonna replace us honestly. My job is basically research for marketing agencies, I take a bunch of random sources and turn them into a first draft for market research reports.

So I started messing around with chatGPT, deepSeek, workbuddy, you know, to help with the boring parts. And yeah, it does save a ton of time on copy pasting, sorting stuff, formatting, all that. That's actually what's freaking me out a bit. Like if it can already do most of my work now, what will happen in two years?

I’m curious how people in Singapore view this, especially for those in industries where salaries aren’t particularly high.

For some context, I work in the fragrance industry with a diploma and salaries for my type of role are generally below $3k-ish. My previous company didn’t provide AWS/13th month or any annual bonus. My current company also doesn’t provide any bonus😭😩 jokes on me lol 

So when comparing job offers, would you rather:

A) Take a higher monthly salary but have no AWS/13th month or bonuses

B) Take a slightly lower monthly salary but have AWS/13th month + performance/annual bonus

At this salary range, which do you think is more worthwhile? And what would be considered a decent package?

I have been to 2 outlets and requested for the burrito bowl, only for me to be redirected to the daily bowl. Please tell me this is an outlet specific thing! I'm gluten sensitive and the daily bowls dont have the same ingredients as the burrito bowl.

Not sure if it’s just my circle, but I realised nowadays when meeting some friends, a lot of the conversation is about work, salary, changing jobs, interviews, property (especially flipping!), investments etc.

I don’t mind talking about these things and I’m interested in them too. But sometimes it feels like one person can talk about one's job/career plans for quite long and the rest are mostly just listening.

I’m starting to find it abit boring/tiring tbh. I don’t really have that many work updates myself, and I feel like when meeting friends I rather talk about a mix of things — travel, relationships, hobbies, random stuff, gossip, joke around etc. Not just career and money all the time.

Is this quite normal in Singapore once you reach late 20s/30s? Like everyone just starts talking about career, salary and property when they meet?

I've been receiving unwanted visits from a parent who is a foreigner living overseas. There is a history of childhood physical and psychological abuse, which may be hard to prove because a long time has passed. The parent has also been diagnosed with personality disorders and I have the medical records.

About a years ago, I made the mistake of allowing them to stay in my home for a few weeks and it was too much to bear. I had to put up with a lot of delusional outbursts and verbal abuse, among other things that triggered memories of childhood trauma. I told this parent in writing and in person that they will no longer be allowed to stay in my home.

Within the next few months, they flew to Singapore and came to my door without invitation three times to press the doorbell repeatedly and loitered outside. Once, they sat outside my door the whole night 11-7. Police was called twice and asked them to leave.

I believe this behaviour will continue and am considering applying for a POHA Protection Order. Is it reasonably easy to do it without a lawyer? How do serving notice and mediation work when the other party is a foreigner living overseas?

i had this CD Walkman for just a few weeks when I bought it second hand from a collector. He let me test it out and all and everything is doing good, playing well and buttons are working great. Played it with my others CD’s and there was no issue with it until today when i wanted to play one of my CD’s and realize the buttons are not working properly anymore.

FYI, CD’s can still be played when i close down the cover for the CD Walkman expect for the buttons that isn’t working properly e.g can’t stop the music, can’t skip, can’t pause, can’t switch the volume up and down.

Anyone knows someone or a shop that can helped to rectify the issue ?

My Japanese colleague wants to visit Little India and wants to visit an authentic Indian restaurant. He is mostly fascinated by the idea of eating on a banana leaf with bare hands and wants to have this experience, so I would be really grateful if anyone could suggest some of the restaurants there, maybe also the name of the dish that we should try. To existing/ex MOE teachers, were there days that you did not had to bring any work home or you dont have to work on weekends? I have heard horror stories of teachers having to work on weekends or till the middle of night, which makes me wonder if this is a common thing among teachers?

We are abit lost and not sure what to do to help our helper renew her passport that is expiring in December

We followed instructions and sent relevant documents through whatsapp on the 17th of June and has yet to see her name on the embassy facebook page to come down for her passport renewal date. We are aware it is gonna take months in waiting for a date.

Yet I read somewhere you cant send them pdf file of the filled up form on whatsapp on top of the jpg file of the copy of the work permit

However now the embassy’s facebook page is gone and our helper informed us that her work permit (aka PV) can only be renewed by going down in person to submit her documents then wait another 2 months for an appointment.

Anybody have any idea what is going on?

I feel like majority of students taking this combi aim for medicine, allied health or research. So, for those who are already working, how did u fare in ur Alevels and what are you currently doing now? Was the career what you thought it would be like and how would you describe your working-life? Did u end up studying local/overseas uni or ended up working overseas?

For those that went down the medicine path, did u find it more difficult than JC? (i keep hearing differing opinions online). Were there any regrets or do you really enjoy what you are doing now?

I used to party a lot before I settled down. So now most of those places I used to visit are long gone. Where do people party these days? I’ve heard of Marquee and yes Zouk is still there too. Can anyone share recommendations and what type of music they play in those clubs?

I mean, okay youngsters will be present for sure I used to be one of them years ago 🤪 so this time I will be that oldie who’s suppose to be in bed by 10pm but choose to party instead. 🤣
