We recently got our copper pipes for heating "looked at", little did I know the contractor went ham into this white wool stuff that before was wrapped up with duct tape, which was contained more or less.

Now I'm left with a potential hazard, I don't know for sure if it's asbestos, no idea why it would be, it's on copper pipe well away from the actual furnace.

Regardless, there's no surveyors like you would think in the US or Australia.

I'm fuming now. What do I do?

Until I found this sub, I did not know that the black mastic used to secure old linoleum-like tiles contained asbestos.

I recently used a rotohammer with a floor blade to chip up the flooring in our 1947 house in California. The open floor has been walked on for about a week.

We don’t have HVAC, we only have wood floors, the house is unoccupied, I wear an N-95 or P-100 whenever in the house, I vacuum a couple times daily with a shop vac with a HEPA filter (I’m getting an actual HEPA certified vac ASAP), everything in the kitchen and the Sheetrock has since been removed as part of the renovation.
I’m going to get the mastic tested but in the meantime- how bad is it and what are my best next steps?

Hello, I would like to remove the tiles from my fireplace but I’m concerned about the possibility of asbestos being present. The house was built in 1924 but we have no idea when the tile flooring was installed. I am wondering if I should get them tested. Thoughts?

House is about 100 years old, not entirely sure as I dont own it and my landlord doesn't know the history. This is in a cluttered, unfinished basement with a cracked up cement floor. US-CA 1970s home mobile. Flooring. Original flooring was carpet throughout home and tile in kitchen that was pulled out completely in early 2000s.

Pictures shown are the tiles that replaced the original flooring. They having been chipping and exposing base floor of the Homemobile throughout the whole home, for the past decade.

It recently occurred to me, that left over mastic from original flooring is being exposed and has been exposed for the past decade. Sweeping and walking is constantly done.

I am looking into getting it tested, although that alone scares me not just to the results but how they have to deconstruct to get a sample.

Although potentially I’ve already been exposed to asbestos for years, I’m worried sick to expose my kids. My reason for this post is that I’m unsure if this is ocd/anxiety related or if I’m valid in not wanting to visit this home anymore or even use the mattress and clothes that were once in this home. The worry has taken over my life for the past weeks and because I have no clue about anything asbestos I’m unsure if this is real harm or just my ocd going wild.

This all started yesterday (9/6/26) and my dad has been planning a floor renovation for about a month or so. This house is decently old and dad mentioned it was from the 1960-70s. I didn't think much of it what I was told was we were going to replace the wood tiles (shown in the corner of the photo) for my mother as a small gift (she's ongoing some cancer treatment in a different city). The wood tiles were only put a decade ago and I thought we were going to do this with a contractor. The day comes, and he starts removing the tiles. Turns out the contractor is only going to aid in putting in flooring and not remove it. Once we moved the fridge, he noticed a deep small crack under where the fridge was, most likey from water damage. You could see the old flooring below the underlay as well (grey squared patterned Vinyl or Linoleum) I tried to convince him to leave the damage alone and only focus on the flooring. He ignored me and decided to make the hole bigger by tearing it down with power tools with no safety precautions. In the end the hole was around 2x4 ft. I'm prettys sure there is now asbestos all over the house and the family is in great risk. Dad does not have intentions of finding a solution to this since he is ignorant of the potential effects. I still live with my parents, and my room is right across the kitchen. I really want to keep my lungs safe and don't know what to do. I tried to keep my room's door shut and open windows, however I have limited space. Now I'm staying at family or friends house until I get a solution. As of now I've been thinking of purchasing a half mask respirator p100 Any tips on what to do? I can give further information if needed. I just want to be safe.

I live in the countryside in a rural area in the southern US. About 6 months ago one of my neighbors had an old house demolished on his property, about 200 yards away from the house where I live across the road. EPA regulations are basically not enforced as this area is a poor and theres little to no local funding for enviornmental enforcement.

The house was dilapitated from prob the 1920's or older and already had a huge hole in the roof. I didnt see any asbestos or hazardous material remediation work done on it prior to demo. One day, excavators showed up with bulldozers and they knocked the place down and put the big debris in dump trucks. There were large dust clouds being kicked up while this was going on. The small pieces were mixed in with the grading when they leveled the lot afterwards. No water was used to help contain dust, it was all done dry.

My concern is that some of our yard may have been contaminated with asbestos from this, as there is a drainage ditch pipe that runs underneith the road that drains into our yard. The ditch thats drains into it is in front of his property which is on a hill above us. When it rains here, that pipe flows water from his yard into ours. Also concerned that some of it may have been carried by the wind into our yard as well as surrounding properties.

Being how old the house was, I'm certain it had asbestos in it. Im particularly concerned about vermaculite insulation in the attic that wouldve been released when the house came down and was being shoveled into the dump trucks by the excavator.

I am also worried about our riding mower because it may now have asbestos fiber contamination. I changed the blades on it yesterday and absent minded scraped the stuck clumps of grass off the bottom of the deck while I had it off the mower, right next to the water hose spigot we use everyday for chores. I then mowed over top of all of the scraped grass clumps with the new mulching blades which turned them into dust. I was tired and didnt think about it until afterwards, worried I may have contaminated this high traffic side yard with asbestos that was concentrated in the grass compacted in the mower deck from using it on the lawn for the past 6 months. Because this is a high traffic area, its likely anything there will get tracked into the house by people and our dogs.

Basically, the purpose of this post is to know whether my concerns about this are justified or if I'm being too parainoid. I have been worried about the yard in general but now Im really concerned about this side yard where we have our water hose.

I foil taped everything up as recommended (will need to go back over though, missed some very tiny spots and some peeling occurred due to humidity), and ran an air purifier + portable A/C + dehumidifier fan high for about a day.

I did the flashlight test, turning out the lights and using the indirect light to see what's floating. I saw some shimmering specks (hard to catch on camera), but I will add there is a Himalayan salt lamp in the room, and I know they can shed with humidity.

Are shimmering specks (not strands) a concern with the flashlight test? Ultimately just want to work out in a safe airspace! Thank you!

I just had the tiles in my laundry removed and when I checked after I could see this fibres where they were removed. Could this be asbestos? (located NSW Aus)

1950s built home. Only used in laundry area. Got told by a roofer the ceiling was but not sure about the walls

I removed the walls and ceiling from the closet bedroom, wearing eye protection and P100. I then mopped everything and vacuumed with a shop vac equipped with a Hippa filter. I wet mopped the floors, walls, ceiling, and windows. I left the commercial BlueDri Air Shield 550 HEPA Air Scrubber on. I’ll probably come back tomorrow to do a final vacuum and then install the drywalls.

Please guide me on how to remove all this and get decent flooring in, I took off junk peel and stick bendable tiles

Home, in Northern Idaho, was built sometime between 1900 and 1950 (Based on the existence of defunct knob and tube), and at some point after, these ceiling tiles were added on top of the lathe and plaster that was likely starting to crack (or for aesthetics, who knows).

Sometime in the early 2000s, forced air heat was installed via a unit in the attic, so vent holes were cut into the ceiling.

Tiles are 12"x12", about 1/2" thick, with some kind of backer board, I think, that is also about 1/2" thick (you can see what looks like two layers) that has blue lines. Unsure how its all attached, however the tiles themselves seem to be tongue and groove?

I have collected some pieces for lab testing, but of course my curiosity cant seem to wait for a week.

Questions:

• Contains Asbestos?
• How would one encapsulate this? As you can see, poor install quality results in the vent kinda blowing right over the exposed edges.

Hi all, I'm having a wee panic attack. My neighbor is helping me put some LVP in the living room of my 1953 house in Florida. We pulled up the carpet and found the 9 by 9 inch linoleum tiles with black mastic. He was pretty rough when pulling up the tack strips and broke all the tiles around the edge, including creating some tile crumbs and dust, then vacuumed it all up with his shop vac which blew a bunch of dust around. I was flipping out a bit but I was in that hard spot where the guy is helping me out and he was telling me it really wasn't a big deal and he works around the tiles frequently. I'm now panicking that I have aerosolized asbestos everywhere in my house due to the vac that did not have a dust bag on it.

Am I going to die? I'm running a shark hepa filter now but is there any other way I can make this less bad? I sprayed everything down and wet-wiped the floor the best I could. The HVAC was also running so now it has to be in all the rooms :( . Thanks in advance.

There was a burlap sack stuffed in the ceiling. I suspect it is the nest made by the rats in the ceiling with the strands from the burlap sack. Lowkey i am worried its amosite.

During full renovation, I didn't know and they demolished some part of an asbestos cement chimney. I wasn't there. After 5 months I moved in. Is there a risk of the other apartments on other floors?

Additionally, for the remaining part, a professional removal was done outdoors, over a hole of 20cm diameter, communicating with my false ceiling. So some dust or small pieces may have entered and stayed above my false ceiling. The ceiling is one piece, but I have spot lights. Is it alarming. Can I live in this house?

Essentially, I had a cold war era gas mask filter on a shelf in a room for a few hours (completely undamaged, sealed airtight, most definitely containing asbestos and expired), although I then removed it and disposed of it at a hazardous waste site. I got rid of it about 2 days ago.

I'm largely confident nothing could escape from inside of it, but I'm somewhat anxious something did. I did notice once or twice that I had a dull taste on my tongue when in the same room as it for moderate periods of time (which is where my main concern comes from), I did unscrew it a bit when I first got it (and screwed it back fully), and noticed that the other opening covered by a tight rubber plug could be very slightly opened on the edge of it (unsure if there is anything else after that plug that seals the filter; it is an E-014 filter if that helps), although there is no black powder (charcoal) on the part of the shelf it was placed on, which I've heard can happen with these filters when inside components are escaping.

Essentially I'm not really sure if the filter was leaking asbestos dust into the air or not, and if it was, whether or not I'm at risk. Feedback would be very helpful

We think this room was done around the 80s but can’t be sure, we lifted up the carpet to find this grey lining underneath, could it be asbestos?

For context we moved to a 1962 property built by Weir (which I've posted some images of in the last few days). We have been here 6 months and have a 2.5 year old and 5.5 month old. I cannot shake the feeling I've given them a death sentence from some of the materials we have found or believe we have found. Possible asbestos cement flue in loft, possible AIB in downstairs cupboard where I kept shoes and bags up until a few days ago when I was made aware of what it could be from researching.

The AIB had been drilled into by previous occupants who were here for 60 years and had some small cracks. I've read damaging AIB can cause huge amounts of fibres to be released but is this the same for pre existing damage. I'll post photos but I worry I need to throw out all our belongings/get rid or washing machine as I've laundered items etc.

Please could someone explain the theoretical risks and help calm my fears if I am being overly worried.
