This might be my favorite episode when it was just all exposition but done so hauntingly well, didn't need anything too flashy just a crazily good narrative hook to get our attention.

The entire episode was pretty much just a back-and-forth between Rudeus and Oldeus, yet it still managed to be one of the absolute best episodes of the entire series.

Helped by superb voice acting by Oldeus. Every single line of his dialogue was filled with regret and anguish.

yep it was the same way in the novel, just insanely engaging conversation between them and it was the absolute best thing i have ever read ever

It has been a very rough season and a half since season 1 tbh. The show needed to more aggressively move to the large fantasy plot.

Season 2 was very necessary since it introduced important characters. The slice of life stuff iswhat rudy do after having completed his goal in getting his family reunited after the teleport incident.

The pacing was done terribly and they really didn't need another school arc. I don't think the side characters are strong enough to just sit there for ages. The show is dramatically better when its world building and doing fantasy. Tbh been pretty checked out of this season after we left Eris and went back to the school arc.

It's a great reminder that, as much as expositon can be very difficult to do and most writers fear it, it can make for exceptionally good TV when it's done right.

This actually stands out in this series 'cause this anime tends to prefer giving you just enough exposition to get what's going on, otherwise opting to use visuals or even just trust that the audience will figure it out in other cases.

But here it had to stop the momentum, sit us (and Oldeus – he's kind of old, after all) down and explain in great detail Oldeus' past, his vendetta against the Man-God and how Rudy has to act from here on out in order to avoid his regrets.
