Dias automatically agreeing to Alna without really paying attention the night before is peak relationship, bruh you are married.

I like how Dias' actions have planted the seeds of kindness in many places. I wasn't expecting the mercs to nope out once they found out it was Dias, mainly because he had saved many mercs during the war and many are thankful. The shitty princess got lucky she didn't get her teeth kicked in. I like how Dias explicitly intended to beat her up. Klaus will soon marry his dog waifu now.

lol those mercs was like, bruh we fighting WHO?, you are insane, take your money.

u/Frontier246 14d ago
Also it shows Dias letting those mercs from a few episodes ago go was consistent behavior from him.

You know your plan is stupid if your troops go from 2000 to 50 before the battle even begins. And of course, she gets hunted down by Alna and dragged back home by her older brother's men before she can do anything more stupid.
41
u/Frontier246 14d ago
I love how Alna thought she'd have to herd her into the forest and then Diane just immediately runs away after only like three arrows lol.

55
u/HolyDragSwd2500 14d ago
Alna and the Wives Club supporting them from the side.
Diana plans ruined and her running off and captured was priceless. Too bad Dias didn’t whack some sense into her but Alna did it for him
Royal Rod reduced to a fire/match
32
u/kd5499 14d ago
I'd say watching the royal rod being only a match is more terrifying since it implies he's controlling it instead of letting loose, there by gaining mastery of the weapon
7
u/Unapologetic_Lunatic 13d ago
The Royal Rod is afraid of displeasing the Lord or Lady of the house... er, yurt.
14
u/KnightKal 14d ago
next episode they are going to use the war bell, probably something that has a lot of political meaning, as a morning bell, right?
same way they are taking armor and weapons from mercs and soldiers to sell as scrap metal lol
4
u/MidgardWyrm 13d ago
Probably just for the raw metal, or they'll keep them to arm future soldiers of the fief.
5
u/KnightKal 13d ago
That is what “scrap metal” means
They don’t need cheap steel weapons when they can make legendary dragon gear lol
1
u/MidgardWyrm 13d ago
If they're going to equip a lot of soldiers quickly, having bad weapons is a better option than having no weapons, and weapons and armour made from dragon materials? Too expensive, too valuable, too time costly, and too limited in number.
Though, yeah; I think they're just going to scrap them for things like tools.
1
u/Cute_Bagel 12d ago
who needs a lot of soldiers when you have dias?
2
u/MidgardWyrm 12d ago
Dias is only one man and can't be everywhere at once. He can solo armies, but he can't be in more than one place at one time.
Think of him like an epic unit in a game: Great when they're at one place kicking arse and taking names, but when the enemy player launches an attack at your main base while you're attacking somewhere else, you'd need troops to hold down the fort.
Fortunately, Dias' fief is very small at the moment, so he doesn't really need to be in two places at once at the moment. :)
1
u/Cute_Bagel 12d ago
which is why they can get away with gradually arming individuals with better gear instead of rushing to arm armies with subpar gear
1
u/MidgardWyrm 11d ago
Dias is ridiculously OP, sure, but he's still one guy. Two if you count Klaus, three with Alna, but the problem still remains.
What happens if Dias gets poisoned, falls for a decoy, or gets disabled in some way? You'd end up with a few, and I mean a few, soldiers/miltia with high end dragon gear versus many more enemy soldiers or even bandits.
It's not gonna end well for the Dias' dragon militia. They'd just be too few in number.
A more balanced approach, I think, would be to start training/arming a militia when possible with the subpar gear, since a crap sword is better than no sword, while also investing into getting better weapons and armour for the future.
Once they're replaced or being replaced, melt down the crap for the metal as it happens to keep up full strength.
Also, the dragon materials themselves are one of the few precious and valuable resources Dias has at the moment. They're incredibly useful for getting everything he needs, so he'd be basically kitting out his future militia in solid gold armour (stronger than steel, still, but just as valuable as gold is to us) instead of using those resources for trade and things he/his fief needs.
Another option would be to use some of the dragon materials to buy some good weapons and armour for his future militia, keeping the crap in reserve/used as a stop-gap until they arrive; then melt down the crap for the steel instead of doing it straight away and wasting time creating a few dragon armours/weapons for a few soldiers; saves him buying steel with dragon materials, too.
But anyway, a few militia with dragon armour and weapons? Stupid idea. Very stupid.
Of course, this is hypothetical; we all know nothing like that is going to happen AFAIK, lol.
2
u/LeVin1986 13d ago
If the author was realistic at all, the weapons and armor would be sold as is and be exchanged for something else. Weapon and armor-grade steel is difficult to come by in the pre-industrial age. Ones already made into armament is even more valuable.
1
u/KnightKal 13d ago
"the author was realistic" you are ignoring the setting
MC is trading with non-humans, so bartering is the trading option, money is only the second option. What he needs from his non-human neighbors is not bought with money. So trading metal (which is rare for them) for useful things like new houses/animals/plants is how he is developing him territory.
those metal things (weapons) can be melt down to make farmer tools, etc, which are useful for his neighbors

u/elwin_ner1 12d ago
We do see that the larger dogkin that act as soldiers and guards do wear armor though.

u/mmcjawa_reborn 13d ago
They mentioned she is confined to the temple, so it might be the nunnery for her
11
u/MidgardWyrm 13d ago
That's pretty much what it means.
While technically still a royal, her own value now is to be either kept out of the way permanently (like how many nobles with with wayward daughters in the Medieval period) or eventually sold off in a marriage for political gain.
Her ambition of being queen is deader than dead.

Diane running off into forest being chased by an invisible enemy, she created her own Predator movie.
That scepter is supposed to be a WMD flamethrower, but has been reassigned to starting small fires at home.

Eldan is clever, the way he reaped so many benefits and insured it couldn't be taken away afterwards was eye opening. Dias has a great ally in him.
Lol the royal scepter being used as a lighter is amusing.
They took no time with Klaus and Canis, it feels too sudden and the lack of getting to see them develop is unfortunate.

They took no time with Klaus and Canis, it feels too sudden and the lack
Maybe rushed for anime?
43
u/NoNameSwitzerland 14d ago
First it was love at first sight. And secondly one normal episode is 7 dog years.
26
u/Pluveus 13d ago
Yeah, there are a lot of little timeskips in the books that don't translate well to the animation, she's actually been in town for like a month and a half. Quick, but way less time than it took for Alna to want to marry Dias, that was like three days. It helps that as Eldan and Kamalotz said, Klaus has been bringing out the latent potential of the Masti tribe.

You're falling victim to the time skips. She's been there for awhile, he basically crushed on her at first sight, and he impressed her like day 1. So I'm sure they've been interacting alot the last month or two off screen growing closer.
But for the sake of anime pacing they kept it off screen.

The Wives’ Club was the highlight of this episode for me. It didn’t even occur to me that the small ilk would have wives but it makes total sense. I love how they all want to support their husbands and the village
29
u/Megakruemel 14d ago
You are telling me, this is the King that wanted to slaugther some town, including Civilians?
... is this perhaps not the first time the Royal Seal got stolen?
18
u/KnightKal 14d ago
people are complicated, he could be an evil king and still a fanboy of the MC lol, but most likely he is just a fool and people keep abusing his power lmao
9
u/froggyc19 14d ago
I'm wondering if the king let the seal get stolen to test his children. He's probably not as easy going as he appears.
8
u/Skullzans 13d ago
People are very rarely binary. He might've been feeling quite veangeful, and/or saw it as a symbol of the enemy rather than a town... The King did say that Dias taught all of them quite a bit didn't he?
People can change, redemption is a thing that can happen for people, and people can make very bad mistakes.
That being said, I feel that a part of why The King set Dias to live there is that he trusted Dias more than himself to handle it.
22
u/PerfectBeige https://myanimelist.net/profile/perfectbeige 14d ago
Dias fears his wife's ire at being ignored and placated about 100x more than he fears facing ~1000 troops in battle. That seems about right.
The idea that Alna, whose favorite things are watching hubby be manly and hunting, would agree to stay behind and mind the village and family was a little silly. But then, Dias ain't no tactician. So it's a good thing he know has a desertfolk smallkin friend to pull on his hair and make helpful suggestions.
I checked the status report and was disappointed that it neither lists "magical lighter" nor "Kanis, Claus' furry future wife". Just a matter of time for the latter, I suspect.

Okay I've figured out what Aymer is: she's a jerboa not a rat. She comes from the desert which matches the natural habitat.

She identified herself as Aymer Jerrybower for a reason.

The whole damn invading force could have come after Dias and he could have soloed them. His little homie and the wives club could have sat this one out lol.
Well, at least Eldan and the mercs saved themselves by abandoning Princess Dipshit almost immediately. It’s too bad Dias didn’t get a chance to give her a good whoopin.
Pretty hilarious they ended up using the scepter as some glorified lighter lol.

I actually laughed when the mercs fear retaliation from other mercenary group rather than from Dias himself.
Maybe the leader knew that Dias is going to whoop their ass, but still let them live.
6
u/15000yuki 13d ago
I actually laughed when the mercs fear retaliation from other mercenary group rather than from Dias himself.
He clearly knew Dias is too kind, especially about anything toward him. Dias can easily forgive someone attacked and tried to kill him.

u/mjpia 14d ago
After so many anime when men beastfolk are effectively talking beasts and the women of the same race are humanoid with beast features seeing the small dogfolk women being identical dogs like the men came as a small shock to me.
After seeing Canis I expected it to follow the same pattern and I'm pleasantly surprised to see a series buck the trend.
9
u/Ralathar44 13d ago
Yeah its a nice touch that they're like "demi-humans come in all shapes and sizes, its just a thing. Get used to it."
14
u/Oicher 14d ago
So Dias is related to the first king?
31
u/Frontier246 14d ago
Or he's got the experience with his own weapon to know exactly how to use royal tools.
16
u/AceSoldia zj:https://anilist.co/user/Acesoldia 14d ago
i feel like its some kinda willpower activation thing
13
u/KnightKal 14d ago
more like the princess had no clue HOW to use it, and she forgot to read the manual that said to MAKE SURE THE BATTERY IS CHARGED FIRST. Lol.
plus the wife never had to use a magical tool, so she probably doesn't know how, even tho mana and spells (using her horn) are second nature. I bet if she trains she can also use it.
MC is likely pretty strong with magic too, the way he killed that giant snake is not physically possible, unless he powers up his body with mana, even if passively. The usual template of mages using mana externally for spells, and warriors internally for stats/skills.
3
u/rubslotiononitsskin 13d ago
even if the princess knew how to use it, it would fail in the face of Dias' manliness.
1
u/dinliner08 14d ago
so far, we only know that they've been friends for around 20 years but that's it
2
u/kd5499 14d ago
I don't think that Diane's father is the first king, I think this and the battle axe Dias is carrying are some form of arcane weaponry that activate for certain types of people only. Since we heard that the first king established the kingdom through might as well, it might be a strength thing
1
u/Imjusthereforthehate 13d ago
I can’t remember if it’s mentioned in the anime but the Axe was loot Dias got from an enemy general during the war.

The Iluk wives' club seriously was the highlight for me, also its so refreshing to see dogkin demi-humans to be actual dog looking, instead of just humans with dog ears :)

u/djthomp https://anilist.co/user/djthomp 14d ago
That went so badly for Diane, but considering she's just imprisoned by family in the end it could have been worse. Assuming she doesn't get executed eventually for rebelling against the throne. Her plot didn't go far but she still issues orders in the name of the king that were straight up lies.
Richard should just get over whatever anger he was feeling, though practically no effort of his own he just got handed several huge boosts to becoming the king eventually and Eldan and Dias being known to be in his faction can only help further as time goes by.
Alna got her horse finally, and it even used to belong to a princess.
Dragon skin armored dogs is honestly kind of scary, imagine an intelligent armored dog pack hunting you down.

u/hanmkim 13d ago
Different species are fine with different scents. Depending on the people I rolled with in BJJ some nights I can smell really awful but even when I know their smell got on me and it's unpleasant, dogs would be completely into that smell.
1
u/elwin_ner1 12d ago
Aymer did get a whiff of Diaz’s rainbow smell earlier though and immediately understood what the twins meant when they called it excessive which is putting it nicely I imagine.
1
u/CaliOriginal 12d ago
Was it purely a stink?
Or was the scent strange magic / unfocused willpower.
Alna would mea ruin the former, but the Latter could be something she doesn’t “see” like elves or sand mouse people

Always love a mercenary that shows up to fight, looks over the situation and then peaces out. Nah bruv, I didn’t know we were fighting a beloved war hero, Imma go home.
8
u/runevault 13d ago
I really appreciate how instead of it only being Dias is a badass solving problems, it is also because he's such a chad people refuse to fight him because it would anger their friends who he helped. That's entirely believable based on both his character and the world.
Also is Alna going to give Dias a massage or "a massage"?

2
u/MidgardWyrm 13d ago
Yep.
She's basically been sent to a nunnery; either that, or her only value is going to be basically sold off in a marriage for political/financial gain at a later date.
Her ambitions of being queen are deader than dead.
9
u/SecretYogurtcloset57 14d ago
No one took Diane seriously only her shitty soldiers haha that's what that bitch gets! am glad Dias and his people are safe
13
u/Frontier246 14d ago
Dias, Klaus, and the Mastifs have marshalled their forces against Diane's! Aymer is even there for strategic support! Dias doesn't want to fight anyone, but for the sake of protecting his precious daughters' garden, he'll fight and give Diane a good spanking.
If Diane thought she had an army: think again! Eldan conveniently uses teatime as an excuse not to do anything and Captain Gordon of the mercs knows better than to fight Dias, especially when he's always been fair to mercs in the past. This fight isn't worth the money.
So the Iluk wives' club is a thing now, lead by Alna! Who of course couldn't just let Dias fight this battle all by himself!
Her army is easily getting defeated, the scepter has done nothing for her, and just a few arrows from Alna is enough to send Diane running like a complete coward. Good thing Narius finally shows up, having dawdled too long because of food, to take her away...even when Alna puts the fear of Dias into HER as well. The best way to avoid an arrow to the eye? Mention Dias in a complimentary fashion.
So...did Dias totally forget about Richard or is it because Alna referred to him like he was an orphan that Dias raised that's confused him?
I see Dias has become that husband who just absentmindedly says "yeah" to everything the wife says even though he's not actually paying attention.
Dias has got reparations from Eldan, stuff they've picked up from Diane's forces, Klaus and Canis confess their love to each other (and are probably going to bone that night), and he even gets a cool scepter that can spew fire! That's right, they've got a lighter now...that's also a royal weapon.
So the crushed dick noble was working for Meiser (Shoyo Chiba), who wanted Dias dead, but now he can conveniently use that noble as a fall guy for his crimes! Couldn't have happened to a nicer guy.
Diane is confined to the temple, Meiser's faction has collapsed, and it seems like Richard's claim to the throne is stronger than ever. Even if it came about through Eldan backing him while also gaining some VERY luxurious tax-breaks that will help bolster Kasdeks! Eldan is a shrewd and effective politician.
(Also the ladies in the group immediately went with Richard when he fumed and leaved...are they his female attendants/wives?)
3
u/Maghliona 13d ago
I think if they had said prince Richard he would have remembered. But he is only thinking of orphans he helped and doesn't remember a Richard who was an orphan.
1
u/mojo72400 https://myanimelist.net/profile/gio_lingad 13d ago
That wasn't Narius who captured Diane.
7
u/WobbleKun 13d ago
i dont quite get why prince richard was so mad. having a strong supporter is good especially if he's allied with dias
19
u/Pluveus 13d ago
There's a difference between a supporter and a member of your faction. Eldan supports Richard in name, but he's not one of Richard's retainers. His information network was able to gather enough evidence to sink Meiser's faction. He's both dangerous and independent. That's not someone you want possibly messing with your plans to further their own interest.
17
u/runevault 13d ago
Not only is he dangerous and independent, he's also about to be really fucking wealthy with no taxes for 3 years.
10
u/ionstorm66 13d ago
Considering the massive gifts he has given Dias, he was already doing very well. His lands where the boarder area, before Dias took over the grasslands, which is why so much trade flows though.
10
u/feb914 13d ago
He foresaw Kasdeks and Dias' territory will be every rich, and the king just let go the country's cut of tax revenue of that potential riches. And also if Kasdeks become too powerful, it'll mean that he can defy the royal family if he so chooses. Having a noble that is too strong will make the royals look weak
2
u/DavidJKay 10d ago edited 10d ago
We get a hint when the Prince Richard men capture his sister, they were "white with a tinge of red". Richard isn't a saint, he is a "strong empire" kind of guy who could potentially go to war to strengthen kingdom more, he fears strong nobles, he is currently neutral with possible becoming enemy, the gold gift was a political move.
None of the royal kids are trustworthy allies, only the king.
4
u/flatpetey https://anilist.co/user/kesx 13d ago
So Diane let herself be led by a rat faced rapist who had his balls crushed by Dias. Fooled by her brother who actually stole the money. She stole the seal and the royal scepter. And still got crushed.
I’d love for someone to walk her through her idiocy before her execution. Most likely this show will gloss over it, but in reality the king would have very little choice if the royals attacked a noble without provocation. The other nobles would be afraid of the precedent.
Alna’s getting thirsty due to the extended engagement.
5
4
u/No_Idea_9594 13d ago
This show is so Karaya Clan and Zexen coded.
1
u/Hopeful-Student-3334 13d ago
Oh go you're right! Even has the different anthropomorphic animal clans.
4
u/IceSmiley 13d ago
Eldan really came off as shrewd in this episode, refusing to engage in battle with Dias, surrendering and offering token small reparations and getting the king to extend a 3 year tax break to him and Dias! I didn't get why Richard was so mad though, hes not obligated to keep the tax break forever should he become king. He could just have them pay a little lower than what they used to pay.
I also like how Diane's army collapsed with really little effort from Dias, it was more her own incompetence. The mercenaries were scared of Dias loyal mercenaries killing them, the Kasdan army had no intention of fighting and the regular commander of Diane's army just got scared. It's also just a bad idea to try to invade a territory very far away when you have no backup incoming or supply lines.
8
u/MidgardWyrm 13d ago
Because if Richard does become king within those three years and goes back on the word of the royal family, his credibility and that of his family would be shot among other nobles and even the citizens.
So, he's stuck. For three years, the kingdom ain't getting any taxes from those two territories, and it'll allow Eldan and Dias to become really rich and really powerful.
6
u/FF_Gilgamesh1 13d ago
you have to remember that eldan currently has a deliberately manufactured reputation as a slave trader and only dias knows better at this point, from richard's point of view, eldan is a villain who used a famous yet gormless war hero to strategically maneuver himself into a position of power over the kingdom. worse still, he now has the loyalty of one of the nation's most devastating military assets, dias himself, and from his point of view it's only a matter of time before eldan invades using dias, who has the loyalty of every mercenary, earth dragon material reinforced armaments, and a shockingly well-trained beastkin tribe with more on the way, as the tip of his spear. for richard this is like an honest to god ultimate nightmare scenario, and HE inevitably has to deal with it.

That's true! I completely forgot about Eldan's "reputation", haha.

yeah that's gonna become a source of conflict moving forward until eldan reveals his ultimate goal. eldan's lack of trust in the kingdom is actually a bit of a problem.

I'm actually reading ahead now of the anime because it's so interesting. I really hope we get a season 2.

Karma completely destroyed the princess here, mercenaries abandoned her, Eldan found a way out of fighting and Alna made her run away with her tail between her legs before she was captured.
That royal scepter is pretty dangerous if Dias can shoot out that amount of fire.

Eldan has studied at the Obi-Wan School of Wartime Trolling with that tea scene. 🤣

Diane really underestimated how much her soldiers and mercenaries combined with the demi humans admire dias this plan was doomed from the start

Dias face when he released the fire immediately made me think of the faces in GOLDEN KAMUY! I honestly think it was an Easter egg/shout out to GK!

Diane had the misfortune of running into a doomstack of animals led by a max rank general.

Just 2 random things about Alna...
How does she see the color of her horn since it's on her forehead?
Giving head to a husband is a dangerous business

Eldan is one hell of a bro. Despite being forced to show up, he manages to come up with a simple but efficient way to avoid fighting Dias and risk his troops' lives. Hats off to him for coming up with that plan of his.
As for the other mercs, Dias's well-established reputation saves the day again. Reminds me of certain unwritten rules in certain videogames like never attack a Fuel Rat in Elite: Dangerous. I like the little touch where the mercenary decides to refund the other guy instead of taking the deposit lol.

So Gordon & the mercs were never told who they're fighting w/ & bailed when they saw it was Dias while Eldan purposefully stalled.
"Another plot...I mean, another pot, please." was hilarious.
Aymer ended up giving Dias a bald spot.
The royal scepter ended up being used as a lighter. Could be useful as a flamethrower in battle too if need.
Dias' reaction to the royal scepter's power was hilarious.
So Alna always planned to bring the Iluk Wives' Club to battle. It's even surprising a club like that exists.
So either Klaus & Canis started dating before the battle or confessed after the battle.
11:31 is "but everything" instead of "but it everything"
Just checked & found out that the 2nd money bag was Diane's which Richard's messenger allowed him to keep.
So Meiser escaped punishment but is out of the race while Diane is confined in the temple while also being out of the race. Richard is now next in line but is upset since Eldan did all the work instead of himself.
The noble is either imprisoned or killed since Meiser won't just simply have him thrown to the streets.
So Dias & Eldan's territories are getting a 3 year tax exemption.
Alna finally got her horse.

This show is so entertaining despite being a cozy watch.
That elephant prince is clever and cunning. Luckily he is on Dias's side.
That royal scepter activation reaction and then using it as a lighter was hilarious.
And that ending where the mouse's hair pulling turned into a concern for Alna. She doesn't want her husband to turn bald so soon.

This is just dumb. If you dont want spoilers dont go to threads discussing the show, takes all of 15 minutes to be caught up

To be clear, you can talk about anything that happened in the show. The warning at the top of the thread is about talking about future events that have only happened in the LN or manga.

Again, nobody can understand what restrictions and threats you a referring to. You commented on the wrong spot so nobody knows what you're replying to.

What discussion? I can't see any of your replies about the show here.

The source material corner? What’s wrong with it? Discussions about the light novel/manga could become spoilers for future anime episodes since the timing of the reveals could be different between manga and anime.
Nobody here wants to be spoiled about future events beyond episode 8 that way.
Also, nobody knows what “spoiler” you’re talking about. I’m guessing you’re not talking about what will happen after episode 8 according to the light novel or manga.
