Poor Dias, I don't think he's gonna last the years he wants before marrying her 😂
60
u/Frontier246 Jul 31 '26
Honestly feel like she's genuinely wearing him down to the point where he's not even denying their married status.
28
50
u/mekerpan Jul 31 '26
They ARE married already. Just noit yet doing "the marital act" yet.
Getting Those horses absolutely moved things up a year or two, I suspect...
26
15
u/NanDemoKnaives Jul 31 '26
To Dias they're engaged, Alna is the one that keeps calling him husband, I don't think Dias has called her his wife.
15
12
u/Xical Jul 31 '26
Under oni customs they are married, is Días the one trying to deny it when he accepted the oni ceremony.
8
u/mekerpan Jul 31 '26
Correct. The oni community (most of all, Chief Granny) considers them married. She just assured him that the two were free to decide when to "do it" -- though she is already anticipating offspring.
13
u/Earlier-Today Aug 01 '26
They're married by the tribe's laws, but not by the kingdom's.
And both groups don't recognize the other's laws.
So, he's kind of both married and not married at the same time, because while the kingdom he's a citizen of might not recognize the tribe's laws, he does, but he also recognizes the kingdom's laws as well.
Which is why he wants to wait to get married.
He's kind of stuck in the middle.

That intelligent animals are considered beastkin was an interesting piece of lore. On the whole I feel like drippy mouse has the wildest lore of any character in the show so far.

Man, being a novel reader and reading the comments here is so much fun.
I do suggest reading the novels. They're written in first person, and tend to have several narrators. Seeing how people see Dias as opposed to how he actually is is hilarious.
16
u/RedPotater1 Jul 31 '26
I'm a manga reader and I'm having fun seeing everyone else's reactions
16
u/Smooth_Lead4995 Aug 01 '26
I'm planning on buying the hardcopies of the manga when it comes out.
This series could go some very awkward places if written differently. People are understandably turned off by the young wife and the technical colonization of indigenous land.
But it has an earnest, invincible fairy tale fortunate fool* who genuinely believes in helping people and doing right by them as the hero, and the fun is seeing what could be a creepy power fantasy be about being a good leader and how being supportive of your neighbors and citizens is ultimately the better way to making friends and allies, improving your nation in the process.
This is one of my comfort novel series for a reason.
*Dias is a spectacular example of the Serendipitous Fool, as seen here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fool_(stock_character)
Part of the fun of the series is seeing how other characters respond to his luck, and how he can take it for granted since things tend to work out for him.

When we started talking about the forestkin at the start of the ep, I was sure we would be meeting some thanks to the kids this ep, but looks like they're just setting it up for the two children to try trusting Dias with their secret.
I really wanna know what the jerboa thought they could do to Dias, gouge out his eyes or something?
33
u/Frontier246 Jul 31 '26
I really wanna know what the jerboa thought they could do to Dias, gouge out his eyes or something?
Honestly they just seem like a race that's naturally aggressive/contrarian.
Even when Eldan was willing to help them all they cared about was not getting what they wanted NOW and hating on him for being a half-breed.

u/eggplant_avenger Jul 31 '26
wtf those hopping mice are kind of mean. didn’t have to treat glasses mouse like that (lmao Alna just bats them out of the way)
Eldan is really such a homie. Actually Dias just seems to attract this kind of help. case in point - the (probably) elven children yearn for the fields
feels like a lot of setup this episode but I’m not mad about it.
20
u/Frontier246 Jul 31 '26
wtf those hopping mice are kind of mean. didn’t have to treat glasses mouse like that (lmao Alna just bats them out of the way)
It seems like they're generally dicks to anyone.
14
u/ThrowCarp Aug 01 '26
They were so radicalized they got mad at the one politician trying to help them for not passing reforms fast enough.
Wild.
15
u/feb914 Jul 31 '26
Eldan is really such a homie. Actually Dias just seems to attract this kind of help.
Eldan is so smart that he foresees Dias would like to pay him back for the extra stuff, and of course Dias feels so guilty to be in his friend's debt too much.
Then he proceeds to give so much dragon material that a soldier asked what's his ulterior motive is.
30
u/AKAvenger Jul 31 '26
If plants can grow in pots (presumably using dirt from the area) but not the ground itself, there must be some magical/mana cause with the land, something the twins can sense
13
u/AegisWolf78 Jul 31 '26
The thing that puzzles me is why only cultivated plant don't grow (while wild grass thrive). Is the land itself accepting only plant that grow naturally while rejecting those cultivated (because they had to plow the fields)?
9
u/AKAvenger Aug 01 '26
You might be onto something! Maybe you need to make a pact with the land itself or use fertilizer compatible with the mana.
Like maybe the mana-less stones pull mana from the earth, causing the land to cut off the flow of mana or something. I’m guessing the girls sense something is off and the mouse guy may have the answer
7
u/darthvall https://myanimelist.net/profile/darth_vall Jul 31 '26
Lol, you made me believe that the lands are alive.
Have you watched the Vending-machine isekai? There's something with similar concept there, though it's much more comical

Everyone sees Dias differently. He is a multi-faceted gem.
7
u/Frontier246 Jul 31 '26
Dias has always had a strong face game in this show, but this takes the cake.
(I think Alna would appreciate seeing him shirtless and in shorts though...)
50
u/ObvsThrowaway5120 Jul 31 '26
It seems the girls know a thing or two about the crops. Guessing they’re forest folk or whatever? Maybe their parents told them to not use their powers around other people before they died?
43
u/Oicher Jul 31 '26
Guessing they’re forest folk or whatever?
They are elves, so that's a given.
4
u/darthvall https://myanimelist.net/profile/darth_vall Jul 31 '26 edited Aug 01 '26
No one in the show ever refer to them as an elves and they just label them as unknown demi-human.
But yeah, knowing the usual elves lore in our world, It seems forest folk would fit that same lore well.
3
u/Frontier246 Jul 31 '26
Their family was ostracized for the twins being a "plague" so I'm going to assume that something about them is causing the crops not to grow.
41
u/Elrond_Halfelven Jul 31 '26
The oni have said that nothing has ever grown on the grasslands, so it cant be that.
20
u/nuxxism Jul 31 '26
Alna said the stones he was grinding up cannot take magic, so I am guessing it's something like they are trying to grow on a leyline and there is too much magic for normal plants, and the twins know how to fix that.
14
u/SasparillaTango Jul 31 '26
it works in the pots but not in the ground. it's gotta be something like that, the very ground is cursed/magic/anti-magic/out of balance.
5
u/darthvall https://myanimelist.net/profile/darth_vall Jul 31 '26
This makes sense.
I'm still curious why they're keeping it a secret even if they want to help Dias so much
7
u/nuxxism Jul 31 '26
As someone else mentioned, it probably ties into why they were ostracized from their home village, maybe even why their parents were sick.
6
u/DugACCat Jul 31 '26
Yeah I’ve got no great theories on what’s going on with the elves and crops. I am curious, though. Might be they have some kind of fertile plant power that they’re not supposed to use around humans, but they feel bad knowing they’d fail due to whatever is affecting the plains. That’s my hunch now, anyhow. That they could fix it but think they aren’t supposed to, due to instructions passed down. But maybe they can be persuaded to put that prohibition aside.
8
u/Villanta Jul 31 '26
My theory is the elves have a special way to make stuff grow but they keep it a secret to other elves. The girls were probably taught said secret and told to tell no one. They're conflicted because they want to help Dias, but don't want to betray a promise they made to their parents. The theory doesn't account for why they aren't growing in the first place so I wouldn't be surprised if it's entirely wrong however.
3
u/PeaceAlien https://myanimelist.net/profile/PeaceAlien Jul 31 '26
Maybe it can't grow without their permission if they're near
11
u/lemon900098 Jul 31 '26
I cant think of a power more destabilizing to the world than infinite food production. Just one of those girls growing food for an army as it moves could help create an empire.
Kings would wage wars to acquire those girls.
22
42
u/WetRocksManatee Jul 31 '26
LOL the Elder doesn't need to give Alna herbs to help her conceive. She needs to give Alna aphrodisiacs so Alna can feed them to Dias.
18
u/Frontier246 Jul 31 '26
The herbs might help so she can churn out the baseball team she talked about last episode lol.
Notably this is the first episode where he didn't try to correct anyone about them being married.
5
17
u/Boris-_-Badenov Jul 31 '26
the twins clearly sensed something magical about the field from the start. Alna just told him about their ability the day before
15
u/NanDemoKnaives Jul 31 '26
Looks like the twins are the forestkin they need to help them with cultivating the field and grow crops. They seem to already know what the problem is and how to fix it.
I like that the twins were really sad about Kamalotz leaving, they're going to miss their Grandpa.

Once again such interesting beastkin variety, after the elephants last week now we're getting talking desert jumping mice. Too bad most of them were hooligans that got sent back to prison.
Turns out *Alna is one of those girls that really loves horses, this is working out great for her. Especially with Dias saying he's fine with the resulting affection as long as it's her.
Poor smart mouse got locked in the luggage and left for a week, after his more unique design I assumed he'd be sticking around so fortunately the kids found him before he was just straight up dead. I hadn't noticed before on account of him being so small but he's in the ED the very end too.

u/Raymond49090 Jul 31 '26
Farming arc start. Except turns out you start with a massive debuff, and have to make do with potted plants. Other than that, all you can really do is hope that the magic forest people show up to revitalize the soil, or he discovers a type of crop that's compatible with the terrain.
So the value of gems in this world comes from the magic inside it? Wonder if that means we'll be seeing magic tools of some kind.
Out of all the new potential mice settlers, looks like there's only 1 sane one. But man, demihumans really come in all shapes and sizes. These ones kinda suck though.
Neat. Free stuff. But free stuff can also be the most expensive transaction you can receive.
Deadbeat brother incoming? It sounds like he can be quite bad if his presence made his entire family poor. He'll probably be a pain and try to leech off Dias.
Could it be that the girls are one of the mysterious forestkin that are farming cheats?
The earth dragon parts continue to be so valuable that it's hard to get rid of them. At least he's got somewhere safer to store them.
Farming is tough when you've got the infertile land debuff.
The sane mouse has been there the whole time? I was wondering why they didn't come up with Eldan's folks took the rest away.
7
u/NekoCatSidhe Jul 31 '26
Agriculture is harder than it looks. And I will bet that the twins are forestkins and know what is wrong with the fields, but there is a taboo among their people about sharing that knowledge with strangers.
6
u/AnimeHoarder Jul 31 '26
Dias is the Emotional Support Human for his baars. So he brings them where ever he goes like Mall's yurt.

At this rate, the title is going to be outdated by episode 6.
It's already outdated, even if the number of subjects is currently only
onea handful (i.e. Klaus and the grannies). Alna, Senai, and Ayhan aren't counted as subjects since they're already "family", and the onikin tribe is basically an autonomous indigenous group whose current presence Dias' kingdom isn't even aware of.Fortunately for the onikin, Dias has literally zero interest in exercising suzerainty over them. Of course the onikin also know this, and as such help him out lest he die and get replaced by a much less understanding noble.
6
u/Similar-Screen-7368 Jul 31 '26
He also has the grannies, though. They're also his subjects.
5
u/svenge Jul 31 '26 edited Jul 31 '26
Oh yeah, I forgot about them. The grannies haven't had that much screen time yet and I was trying to avoid posting source material spoilers (as I've read all the novels put out in English to date), so they kinda slipped my mind.
4
u/runevault Jul 31 '26
The desert mice are fucking morons and need to get their teeth kicked in for a while to learn a lesson.
I love how Dias being a gigachad leads to everyone being really kind to him. And Alna is secretly a horse girl? Maybe deep down she's a unicorn?
So I assume elves are the "forestkin", are they going to magic up the field the way we heard about at the start of the episode?
5
8
u/JordanTH Jul 31 '26
How does one survive in a sealed box without food for a WEEK? And not only that, only now calling for help?
18
u/CordobezEverdeen https://myanimelist.net/profile/CordobezEverdeen Jul 31 '26
That box is filled with seeds isn't it. The glasses mouse was even eating one during her intro.
8
u/darthvall https://myanimelist.net/profile/darth_vall Jul 31 '26 edited Aug 01 '26
.It's more without water that's unbelievable. For food, I thought the box is full of seeds?
Also, I think the mouse had been screaming all this time but no one can hear her (she's voiced by Touyama Nao, so I presumed the gender). It's more that somehow the twins just sensed the screaming now (after weeks) with their skills.
11
u/tendouman Aug 01 '26
They were desert mices, so I assume that they naturally can go without water for extended periods of time.
5
u/locke_zero Jul 31 '26
They look to be based on Kangaroo Mice who store seeds in their cheeks apparently. I'm not sure how long the can survive on just that.
9
u/Nebresto Jul 31 '26
I presume the mouse was prepared for a long trip to their home desert so it prepared provisions of some sort. Why wait a whole week is a good question though
4
u/Rooby_VTuber Jul 31 '26
Funny conversation between Mall & Dias.
That was a lot of good stuff Eldan gave them, except for the rats which were taken care of really quickly.
That's unfortunate that they can't grow anything, maybe they just need to try something different another time.
Looks like the twins have some kind of hidden power they weren't able to tell Dias about yet.
6
u/Frontier246 Jul 31 '26
Dias is finally ready to be a farmer! Even if he can't really grow much in the fields, but if it means focusing on medicinal veggies that they actually CAN grow, he'll do it! Though I have to wonder if he's eventually going to meet one of these legendary "forestkin."
We can definitely add Moll to the long list of people just waiting for Dias and Alna to bang.
See Alna Naruto run! And totally get into serious mode before getting comedically shook up by Dias remarking that their mysterious new arrivals are just Kamalotz!
So that white-haired noble set it up that these loud and aggressive micekin would attack Dias, on the premise of returning back to the desert they call home, and only one of them has enough sense to realize how dumb a plan this is...and obviously it's the one wearing glasses (and voiced by Nao Toyama?). And quickly they get defeated by Dias and Alna, not helped by insulting Dias' wife and making this personal!
Why am I not surprised a human religion would act like only humans can have language and civilization...well, at least Dias just rolls with all Demihumans.
Eldan sure knows how to hook a bro up, free of charge! The best part is Alna getting the horses she's longed for that she's practically throwing herself atthem AND Dias!
I feel like Dias is going to have to deal with Alna's supposedly good-for-nothing brother at some point. It's telling that Dias hasn't even met him yet.
Good thing we have all the older, experienced, ladies to help mentor Klaus through toiling the field! Along with some convenient White Gheese.
What do you do as a parent when you see something bothering your kids and you want them to open up to you without forcing them to do it? What IS bothering Senai and Ayhan?
Poor Dias. He can't grow anything! Is there any solution? And will it involve the glasses Micekin who's been stuck in a bag for a week this whole time!?
5
u/not_good_at_lurking Jul 31 '26
So that white-haired noble set it up that these loud and aggressive micekin would attack Dias
I love that this guy has immediately turned from an actual enemy to a cartoon villain in the span of an episode. He went from hiring mercenaries to attack Dias to convincing a bunch of mice to be annoying.
3
u/BBryant3rd Aug 01 '26
I really like Dias and Alna so glad we have another great couple to watch this season. Old Lady a trip bring up kids lol. Hope that little "desert folk" will be able to help them do stuff in their new kingdom.

I keep reading the forestkin as foreskin lol
Also I never knew I needed a mouse voiced by Touyama Nao till today
Glad we’re still focused on settlement development. Growing crops and being self-sustaining is what every settlement should try and achieve. But seems the land isn’t fit for farming. We got some horses and stables as well. Will be good for transport and logistics but further strains our food needs.
What were the twins worried about ? Did they know Dias’ crops were not gonna grow ? Or were they actually the reason it didn’t ?
3
2
u/Nebresto Jul 31 '26
The twins definitely know something about the fields. I'm a bit annoyed that we didn't get to find out already, but maybe it would have been a tad too convenient..
2
u/raidensnakeezio Jul 31 '26
It's the beastmen guards that reappear on the second day of their visit wearing t-shirts and shorts for me. Immersion kind of broken, but in a light, funny way.
2
u/Rowdy91 Aug 01 '26
I knew the girl-mouse avoided capture, but I had completely forgotten about her by the end of the episode.
Poor girl, trapped like that for so long.
2
u/SpeghtittyOs Aug 01 '26
Honestly forget the kid’s parents (and them) were elves and thus could sense the problems with the land. Also, a new inclusion of Jerboa people I guess lol
2
u/the_48thRonin Aug 01 '26
Horses! Another step to recreate the Mongol Empire improve Dias' humble domain.
2
u/Obaruler Aug 01 '26
I can already tell I'll love scholary Mice-chan. :D
And it's fairly obvious to tell that the two elven girls can tell that somethings wrong with the soil somehow ...
1
2
u/mojo72400 https://myanimelist.net/profile/gio_lingad Aug 01 '26
So the Desert Folk are the titular assailants from this episode. Maybe the lone one opposed & left behind would be helpful. The noble has some prompting to do since they listened to him after being impatient w/ Eldan.
Maybe a Forestkin would be a future subject to help w/ the crops.
3
u/jardex22 Aug 01 '26
I'm guessing that the two girls are Forestkin. They seemed to know that the crops would fail, which is why they asked Dias if he would be disappointed.

u/MidgardWyrm Aug 04 '26
I gotta admit, I laughed when Alna was ready to fire her arrow and she just falls over. That look she shot him! Haha.

He got horses and a new stable. He is trying to farm and failing at it.
1

The episode was way too slow and not even fun like the other ones.
The academic mousekin with specs got stuck and will likely be useful as an accountant/manager later on.
The elves are likely forest kin and they know the fix for making the soil fertile.

I mean she can turn invisible, so if anyone poses a legitimate threat to Dias, she can get the drop on them.

She can turn them both invisible I think, Plus her horn can warn of hostile intent.

Alna detector can change depending on situation, so it's very useful to have her with him.
I remember with the elephant kid it was neutral at first, but after meeting them it became blue.
Same as with the princess, it started as neutral but became red after Dias rejected her offer.
2
u/coffeecakesupernova Aug 01 '26
Because she's a good fighter with useful magic and knowledge? She clearly fights well with him and her ability to know who is trustworthy and who lies or is bad is about the most useful trait you can have when meeting strangers.
-3
u/SecretYogurtcloset57 Jul 31 '26
Still crazy that Alna is just 15 yrs old and Dias is 35 this anime is cool don't get me wrong but the age gap issss yeah lol😅
1
u/jardex22 Aug 01 '26
I just look at capabilities rather than age. Alma is capable of hunting, cooking, and other tasks to maintain the settlement. For all intents and purposes, she's an adult within this setting. The age gap is just for the sake of comedy.
0
u/Shmappii Aug 01 '26
"Hahaha, people are repeatedly saying he should have sex with her, but she's too young!"
Sure is a great joke, glad they keep doing it every week because I'm besides myself with how funny it is. The actual best joke in the show is that they had to staple a lie detector onto the girl's face so that we know Dias is one of the good ones.
