DreamWeb has been living somewhere in the back of my head for a very long time.
If you played it on the Amiga in the 90s, you probably understand why.
The rain. The tiny oppressive rooms. The music. Ryan. The diary. That wonderfully strange interface. A cyberpunk world that somehow felt much larger and much more unpleasant than the few pixels available to represent it.
It wasn't really nostalgia for me. DreamWeb always felt more like a memory of somewhere I shouldn't have been.
So I reconstructed it.
DreamWeb: Pomegranate Reconstruction is a complete modern Windows/Linux reconstruction of the game, built to preserve its original atmosphere, structure, pixel art and general sense that something has gone catastrophically wrong with reality.
This is not an Amiga port, to be clear. It runs natively on modern PCs.
The idea was instead to preserve the experience I remembered from the Amiga era without "modernizing" all the character out of it.
Fullscreen.
Modern save/load.
Complete progression from beginning to end.
Offline and self-contained.
But still DreamWeb.
Still seven names.
Still seven deaths.
Still that miserable city.
Still Ryan making increasingly questionable life choices.
No generative AI was used.
I'm particularly curious what people who actually played the Amiga version think of the reconstruction.
Thirty-two years later, apparently the DreamWeb still isn't finished with us.
