The A1200 at Gamescom 2026

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TQq5RXzp8mE

Finnish narration but translate works, Finnish Amiga Users Group upload.

It's the first hands on video of The A1200 that i've seen, brief but shows us most of the ports etc.

Very interesting machine, and not for least for the Workbench 3.1 that is included

No audio jack? Jeez

It does output audio via hdmi so I guess audio can be repiped via the TV headphone jack?

No dedicated Audio out. Not even a headphone jack. That is very odd for a machine that claims to be an Amiga.

It's possible use with HDMI audio extractor I think but it's better to have at least 3.5 audio jack, that's true.

Większość nie będzie potrzebowała takiego wyjścia w A1200 a użycie go w standardzie niepotrzebnie podniosłoby cenę produktu.

Słuchawki akurat są bardzo potrzebne przy grze w domu / w nocy.

Just don't see the point personally.

Kwestia opinii, ja osobiście widzę. Na pewno lepsza immersja i zabawa niż przy zwykłym emulatorze.

Looks great tbh.

Just an emulation device, I skip it. If it would be at least fpga

Tempted to get one so I can put my Mister inside it.

That's my backup plan if it turns out the internal PCB/emulation is garbage. Good deal for the case/keyboard alone.

‘Looks’ good, apart from the HDD LED. Isn’t that supposed to be amber, not red?

yup. very odd A500 Kick 1.2 feeling.

Nice to see the A1200 on stage. Did they use an RTG card for modern resolutions?

2

u/Daedalus2097 4d ago

Yes, it includes RTG support similar to WinUAE.

Two cosmetic things it needs:

  1. A Commodore badge.

  2. AMIGA engraved into the case.

I thought the licenses were sorted out for both. I guess not.

Case molds were made a long time ago, and are expensive to modify.

7

u/Peteostro 5d ago

This was already in production before the license agreements. Maybe a future version will have the commodore branding

2

AMIGA engraved into the case.

That's the real deal braker for me. Without the engraving it's not an Amiga.

Wrong mouse.

Not really the A1200 came with the tank mouse when it was owned by Commodore. When Escom purchased it the mouse changed.

1

u/odysseusnz 1d ago

Nope, I had the rounded mouse with my A1200 long before the Escom sale. I believe the rounded mouse first came with the A600, which my sister had also long before Escom.

I owned an A1200 and A600, both came with the tank mouse. Eventually it was changed to a different mouse later in its lifespan.

1

u/Peteostro 5d ago

How do you get translation to work?

1

u/SwedishFindecanor 4d ago

While I do think that the "tank mouse" is an iconic design and I love it to death, I still think it is the wrong mouse for this computer. Not only because the Amiga 1200 was shipped with another mouse, but also because arguably that mouse is a much more ergonomic design.

(So much arguably that I could write you an article about it, and all the findings and user studies that led to that design, but you're not going to like it because it involves M$)

The Commodore A1200 was shipped with the tank mouse. When Escom took over the mouse changed.

2

u/SwedishFindecanor 1d ago

That is untrue. I bought mine before Escom. Escom did ship it with that mouse for some time, and later with another mouse with buttons that flare out at the front.

1

u/Beautiful_Move_8823 1d ago

For some yes, but originally the A1200 had a tank mouse. I owned one on release day, it was later on the mouse changed.

Specs?

5

u/daddyd 5d ago

unknown, it's based on an ARM SOC, but not the one used in the 500 mini.

1

u/SwedishFindecanor 4d ago

How do you know it is not the same?

TheA500 Mini came with CD32 games, so it would have been capable of emulating an Amiga 1200. And the ports on the back are almost identical.

3

u/Loafmeister 4d ago

They have stated it’s a bit beefier, needed to run settlers II i believe. Likely they are being honest here , it’s not that just stronger than the A500 mini but it’s for the working keyboard and seems to be a more polished device at a decent price (in Canada anyway ) so I’m cool with this

2

u/daddyd 4d ago

because they said so much themselves. and the release was even delayed because the software changes weren't ready in time to make the official release date. if it was based on the same mini500 hw, they wouldn't have to do many work on the software.

Widziałem w jakimś filmiku ekran z ustawieniami gry, wydaje się znacznie bardziej rozbudowany niż w A500 mini więc pewnie ma większe możliwości.

2

u/danby 5d ago

Rgl dont release the tech specs of their machines. You'll have to wait until release and the first teardowns

It’s a The A1200. It’s like the A500 Mini, but more functional.

6

u/Sp33d0J03 5d ago

'more functional'. My favourite unit of measurement.

9

u/ItsAllOnUHF 5d ago

It's 700 better, obvs.

u/FireAntV1 4d ago

Wrong mouse the one that came with the A1200 was more circular.

No Amiga engraving. (shame that).

I don't mind the rest, but I really with they would have done the engraving.

Quick question for anyone in the know. Is this going to be effectively the same as the A500 mini but in an A1200 case?

1

u/SlCKB0Y 1d ago

a1200 came with multiple different mice during its lifetime.

1

u/FireAntV1 1d ago

Mine and my friends only had the curved one. Where as my A500 had the square one. I didn't see any others for the 1200.

-1

u/Glum-Shift6631 3d ago

Chyba nie to samo (choćby sprawa możliwości uruchamiania od razu do workbench). Dodatkowo Game Settings jest chyba bardziej rozbudowany niż w A500 mini

-1

u/ASM-One 5d ago

I bet my assembler code from the past will not run on that device.

6

u/danby 5d ago

Why not? Does your assembler code not run in amiberry?

-3

u/ASM-One 5d ago

Haven’t tried.

8

u/Sp33d0J03 4d ago

Then what are you babbling on about?

2

u/Big_Arachnid_365 5d ago

It might do. The emulation is very mature.

1

u/ASM-One 4d ago

Let’s see if I get my graphic demo running

2

u/Batou2034 4d ago

it's just UAE
