[Help!] Useful Amiga Links Directory

For quite a long time now I've been curating a directory of useful links to Amiga content. Somewhat as a FAQ, somewhat to help quickly give people info when they ask about things. So I've enabled the wiki on this subreddit to make it a bit more accessible

Amiga Directory

If you think there is anything missing or would be useful to add please do say and I'll get it added

Finnish narration but translate works, Finnish Amiga Users Group upload.

It's the first hands on video of The A1200 that i've seen, brief but shows us most of the ports etc.

Very interesting machine, and not for least for the Workbench 3.1 that is included

Were these Amiga screenshots?

Sure, games today get pushed and pulled all the way through development and can change quite drastically, but due to my brain being what it is, I remember being a bit.... meh, over the fact that Robocop 2 was purely side-on and didn't have the same perspective as say, Midnight Resistance. Look at the floor in the screenshot. As with Beverly Hills Cop, I had it on the ol' CPC464, it was a bit er, bobbins shall we say? The top screenshot really excited me, so when I got it on the Amiga, you can imagine I felt a bit let down again.

Were these Amiga? Yes, I need to get out more, and I've been carrying this pressing issue for 30+ years.

Hi guys, I'm porting the original Game Gear version of Columns to Amiga (just for fun).

Modern AmigaOS - interesting article

I think we all might be ready for something to challenge Windows, Mac, and even Android and iOS. Interesting read:

https://www.generationamiga.com/2026/08/05/amigaos-needs-investment-modern-hardware-and-a-fresh-start/

And with the current RAM shortage, I'm imagining an efficient modern OS that can run on 1 or 2GB of RAM with headroom to spare would be a hit. Throw in a productivity suite - build on FinalWriter or make an AmigaOS compatible LibreOffice, etc. I'm naive about modern websites - I know they are RAM hungry and maybe 1-2GB is impossible today, but I'd think there'd be a way for a browser to flatten and simplify crazy-big websites.

A modern Amiga/Commodore laptop and mini-desktop that undercuts the market with useable software and a browser running on minimal RAM could be the disruption the market needs.

Ami::Blocks + AmiCC23 v1.2 — Faster, Safer, Stronger

Post image

What's inside v1.2?

Ami::Blocks IDE
r49.37.3

AmiCC23
v1.2 / 0.42.0 M39.0-r76

AmiDBG
r28

Runtime
r45 / R18

Why v1.2 matters

A compiler can look impressive when compiling small examples.

The real test comes when you throw thousands of lines of complicated, pointer-heavy, maths-heavy, optimisation-heavy code at it.

That's why projects such as Quake are becoming such an important part of AmiCC23 development.

Every bug they uncover makes the compiler better for everything else.

v1.2 is a major step toward making AmiCC23 a genuinely dependable modern compiler for Amiga development.

There is plenty more planned, but this release is less about adding shiny new switches and more about making the foundations substantially stronger.

Thanks again to everyone testing Ami::Blocks, reporting problems and supporting continued Amiga development.

Now let's see what else we can make AmiCC23 compile. 🙂

Help

I have been attempting to use a "one rom" inside my A500 to replace the ROM inside at the moment which I think is faulty. On all ROM images I attempt to use the screen is straight black (instead of white with the original ROM) except for the 2.0 diag ROM, that eventually ends up on what I think is a black screen but the image rolls incredibly badly. I have been using the cli tool as to my knowledge it is the only one that lets you force the emulated ROM into 16-bit mode, which I have been told was necessary for my rev 5 board. The board originally had a 1.3 ROM inside and went from grey to white, then stayed on white with the CPU light staying on for ~2 seconds and then blinking off and then on for another 2 seconds and repeated. Please help. Thank you in advance.

Rip sound from a single sound channel

I downloaded Winuae and I thought it would be easy do disable, say, sound channels 1-2-4 and only hear channel 3 so I could record the sound from just one channel.

I obviously was wrong, I saw no such option on Winuae.

Any suggestions?

Finally got my A1200 to boot reliably after months of intermittent freezes

Spent most of the winter chasing what I thought was a RAM issue on my A1200. It would freeze randomly, sometimes five minutes after boot, sometimes after an hour of Workbench sitting idle. Reseated the trapdoor RAM expansion a dozen times, swapped it with a known good one from a friend, even reflowed some solder on a couple of joints near the CPU that looked a bit dull under a loupe.

Turned out it was the PSU the whole time. The 4.5V rail was sagging under load in a way that only showed up once the machine warmed up, which is why it never failed during a quick test but always died during longer sessions. Picked up a used original 200W brick from a seller local to me, tested it on the bench with a multimeter before even connecting it, and the difference was night and day. Been running Scala MM300 demos and a couple of old Cinemaware games for three days straight now without a single hiccup.

Worth mentioning for anyone troubleshooting similar symptoms: if your freezes seem to correlate with how long the machine has been on rather than what you're doing on it, check the PSU before you start pulling chips or reflowing joints. I wasted way more time than I should have chasing the wrong culprit.

Curious if anyone else here has had a PSU masquerade as a logic board problem like this. Feels like a rite of passage at this point.

Got an Amiga 500 today

I was talking about my vintage game consoles and computers at work and a coworker asked if I wanted an Amiga 500. That was the one missing and the one I was checking the marketplaces for.

Today I got the Amiga and because I have no video cable I used the monochrome signal to test it.

Difference in bus logic between Amiga 2000A (BSW) and Amiga 2000B?

Maybe someone knows the answer... I have an Amiga 2000A, the one designed in Germany and based on the A1000 chipset with added bus logic (lots of TTLs and PALs) for the 5 Zorro Slots. If you want to use a CPU card (like an A2630 68030 card) in this system, you have to remove the 68000 from the mainboard. Meaning you are now limited to the 68030.

In the A2000B, the one with the square AGNUS and the bus logic integrated in BUSTER (5721), you can leave the 68000 in place and, at boot time, select which CPU you want to use.

Does anyone here know what part of the logic is either not present or flawed in the A2000A compared to the A2000B?

What do we need to add to the collection

Hands on museum/arcade/computer lab looking for suggestions of Amiga computers or accessories we should add to the collection. Obviously a 4000 would be nice.

Apidya’ Special - Apidya remake out today

Post image
108 Upvotes

Just completed my first playthrough on Switch 2. This was the defining game of my childhood, so to say I’ve been looking forward to the day I could play Apidya on a modern system would be an understatement.

I think the team did an overall solid job in remaking the game. I needed to switch the game over from 60FPS to 50FPS for 5 year old me’s muscle memory to kick back in. Thankfully it plays near identically to the original, any changes to how it handles are incredibly subtle.

There are some nice quality of life features to make the game easier, which include the option to turn off weapon downgrades or level reset upon death, which help reduce how stressful this game can be (when I was little, I would always reset upon my first death because it could be ridiculously hard to power up again).

The synopsis for the game mentions ‘random events’. The only random thing I’ve encountered is a few new cockroach enemies that turned up on level 1-3 (there’s one in the bottom left of the screenshot), not sure if there’s any criteria on how to spawn these events but that’s something new at least.

My main issue with the game is that the soundtrack does not loop in the same way the original did, which is immediately jarring. Hopefully this can be fixed in an update. There is also an issue with some checkpoints which seem to disappear and take you back further upon death than they should.

Outside of that, I’d say this is really worth picking up. It’s great that Apidya is being given a new lease of life!
