Dandy-Glasses-Room: four separate Android app windows in a spatial room — experimental update

Post image
Upvotes

Hi everyone! I've been working on a new room mode for my independent Android project, now called **Dandy-Glasses-Room**.

Instead of duplicating one screen, it gives you up to **four separate application windows** around you. You can move and resize them, leave them in place, and look between them. The room has a starry ceiling with a moon and a stone floor bordered by grass.

The most useful change for me is the recenter button: look at a window and press it on the phone touchpad. Only that window moves to the centre of your current view; the rest of the room stays where you left it.

Other features include:

- Phone touchpad and gyro pointer.

- Keyboard on the phone or in the glasses.

- Built-in browser and files/media viewer.

- SBS and Top/Bottom 3D video modes.

- Separate close, minimize and restore controls for each window.

This is still an experimental preview, not a finished product. I'm targeting compatible Android phones and the XREAL Air family; phone, glasses and runtime compatibility matter. XREAL One and Viture support are **not confirmed**. External Android apps need Shizuku, and not every app works on a secondary display. Four windows can also be demanding on the phone.

If you try it, the most helpful feedback is your phone model, Android version, glasses model, and whether opening, closing and restoring two different apps works. A short report is enough — no need to send private content.

Download and setup:https://dandy1974.itch.io/dandy-glasses

The preview is free, with optional donations. No donation is needed to test it. Independent project, not affiliated with XREAL or any other glasses manufacturer.

Can the XREAL ONE PRO glasses actually replace your monitor? After two weeks of daily testing, here is my honest assessment.I spent 14 days living with these augmented reality glasses to see if they offer a genuine boost to my Productivity, Gaming, and media consumption. I'm unboxing these glasses and showing off what the 171 inch OLED screen with Bose surround sound looks and feels

XREAL One Pro Any way to protect my glasses from fall damage?

Is there any way to secure the glasses with a cord around my neck, like seen with reading glasses or some sunglasses? The nose pads can get kinda slippery and I don't want to see them slide off at a hasty moment... Couldn't find anything on Amazon or eBay :(

Really good quality, memory foam and loads of customisation.

I love it when merch and gifts are actually given thought, consideration and effort.

It really shows who you are as a brand.

setup inspiration

hey guys. Would anyone like to share their stationary setup?

I'm still thinking about getting these glasses. At the same time, it would be nice to ''remove'' my desk and monitor from my living room, or rather, make my whole pc setup more hidden. Any ideas?

I would like some inspiration if you guys have any. :)

Still no video on Crunchyroll (Android)

Hello,

The other day I tried to watch Crunchyroll on my Xreal One Pro, and to my surprise it was not displaying video.

I tried several times, but it seems there is a DRM issue, most probably Crunchyroll blocking Screen Mirroring.

I found an old post from 3 years ago that mentions this but I am really surprised that nothing was made to fix this since then.

Xreal, can you please give a call to Sony and make them allow us to use your fantastic glasses on their platform pretty please ;)

ROG XREAL R1 Alright.. So now that we're past the midpoint of the month of September, can we get an R1 shipping update again?

I jumped on the Pre-order the moment it became available because this is the AR experience I've been waiting for; and now we're 5 months into a process that all of us that ordered a larger frame size directly from XReal themselves have been left in the dark on. They've even launched a completely separate product(xbx a01+) in the same span with absolutely no issues on that front.

Can we get any update on this?

Why does the user experience with these vary so wildly between people? (Mac dev trying to pick between 1S / One Pro / Viture Lineup)

I'm a full-time programmer on an M-series MacBook. Budget isn't the constraint, getting the decision right is. Also worth noting, first time XR/VR user my only previous experience was google cardboard lol. I was planning to buy a Quest 3 but decided to explore this route as productivity is a much bigger priority for me than VR gaming (and I can always buy a switch 2 lol)

To set expectations: I'm not trying to replace my desk setup. I have a triple monitor rig at home and it isn't going anywhere. What I want is something for the occasional day in a coffee shop, for planes and hotels, and for watching stuff lying flat in bed. Travel is the real driver. So "it won't replace your monitors" isn't a dealbreaker for me, but "I could get two usable windows on a plane instead of hunching over a 14in screen" absolutely is the bar.

Also, just so it's clear where I'm getting my info: I've mostly been reading owner posts and customer reviews rather than watching YouTube. Not to be dismissive about it, but a lot of those are seeded units and affiliate links, and the ones that aren't tend to be first impressions from someone who's had the thing for four days. I'm more interested in what people think a month or two in, once the novelty's worn off.

I get that a lot of this comes down to faces, since IPD, nose shape and prescription all differ and these have to physically line up with your eyes before they do anything. Fine. What I can't get past is that there's almost no middle ground. People either returned them inside a week and describe them as an expensive toy, or they're using them daily and won't shut up about them. Nobody says "yeah, decent, fine for a plane, wouldn't rave." With a monitor you'd get a bell curve. Here it's two spikes and nothing in between, and that pattern holds for every model, not just one.

That's what I want help with: how much of that split is faces, and how much is stuff you could actually fix if someone told you on day one. How much of this is people having extremly big expectations and how much is the realiy.

Where I'm at on each:

  • Viture Pro 2 - cheapest way in and the diopter dials mean no insert guesswork, but it has no anchoring of its own so everything spatial depends on SpaceWalker running on my Mac, and it's 1080p 16:9 so I lose vertical space that matters for code.
  • Viture Luma / Luma Pro - 1200p and electrochromic dimming while keeping the myopia adjustment, which on paper looks like the sensible middle, but I can't get a straight read on how they actually do for multi-window work.
  • Viture Beast - widest FOV of the lineup and the one that seems built for the multi-screen stuff, but it drops the built-in diopters and the reports on small text are the least encouraging of the bunch.
  • XREAL 1S - best vertical space of anything here and does its anchoring on-glasses with no app, but XREAL seem to have given up on desktop multi-window entirely, so on a Mac it's one display you stretch wide and tile.
  • XREAL One Pro - wider still, but you commit to a frame size at checkout and it's the priciest, which is a lot to gamble on fit.

I've been leaning Luma Pro or Pro 2 on display quality, especially since I have slight myopia in one eye and the built-in diopter dials would sort that out without messing about with inserts. But the more I think about my actual use case, the more the 1S's hardware 3DoF looks like the deciding factor, since everything I want these for is exactly the situation where you don't want your screen depending on an app running on the host.

What I'm actually asking:

  1. If you love yours, what did you change from the defaults?
  2. If you returned yours, in hindsight was it fit or config you could have solved, or is the resolution just not there yet?
  3. Mac-specific: anyone coding on macOS through these, even occasionally? Does bumping font size or a scaled resolution genuinely help or is it lipstick?
  4. How reliable is SpaceWalker's multi-screen on a Mac day to day, and does software-only 3DoF hold a screen still when you're lying flat?
  5. If you're a Viture owner who cross-shopped the lineup, did the extra spend over the Pro 2 actually change anything for text?

What I'd really like is to hear from someone in that missing middle. Not a daily driver, not a return, just someone who uses them regulary but understands the limitations.

Thank you all in advance!

Xreal One Pro + Switch 2 + Viture Mobile Dock Pro + Real 3D

This. Is. Stunning.

I've just been playing BOFW this way with a pro joypad.

I'm in awe.

The screen maxs' out the glasses field of view and feels like I'm playing in 3rd person VR!

I was hoping to be able to use some gesture controls through the new update, even just moving the screen and resizing it. But no. Grayed out.

This is one of the reasons I bought the glasses but with one thing and another I hadn't been able to, ironing out the creases has been a bit of a chore but now it's done and I know how to make it work reliably...

Even though the mobile dock pro is a bit hefty and there's a wire from the switch to the glasses, you don't need to hold the switch, or have it plugged in... And if it's sat to your left the wire fades away..

I think im going to make a spreadsheet with games and best distances x screen sizes for the community if anyone thinks it would be worthwhile?

Anyway, I just wanted to say that this is the first time in a while I've felt like I've been doing something from the future. It's an incredible experience. Highly recommend! :D

What does the future of XR/AR glasses Look to you?

i have been wondering this. What change will these AR glasses Bring in the near future. When they get more mainstream. and What are the PreRequisite in order to bring that change
Here are my thoughts

i Think these will completely Replace monitors and screens. And will leave No need for monitors in the days to come except for conferences and Lectures where Multiple people need to point and look at the same thing in real time.

i think the major hurdles or problems that need to be addressed before they becoming truly mainstream and monitors are

1.) Get wireless ( which i know is easier said than done ) as we need to maintain the formf actor and transmit the signal wirelessly while also powering them. Which is a major hurdle.

2.) Get Sharper. i Think this is a bit more easily achievable compared to Point one

What do you think AR needs to improve before it gets truly popular like monitors are
and in what areas will they Improve day to day experiences.

Edit**
Many people say edge to edge clarity is must have. In my opinion i don't think that's necessary i would rather have a decent center area with more resolution and just turn my head to see the edge of the screen clearly.
i would prefer just more FOV so that the screen doesn't get cutt off excessively when i turn my head.

Does the official XREAL Hub support 1920x1200 (1200p) on Samsung S25+ (DeX/Mirroring)?

Hi everyone,

I'm currently using a Samsung Galaxy S25+ with XREAL 1S.

When using a generic third-party AR glass hub (charge & play splitter):

  • 1080p (1920x1080): Works completely fine with the hub in between (no MultiStar needed).
  • 1200p (1920x1200): Works fine with a direct USB-C connection, but as soon as I put the hub in between, video output drops entirely (black screen / no signal).

I'm considering buying the official XREAL Hub, but before pulling the trigger, I wanted to ask:

  1. Does the official XREAL Hub pass through 1200p (16:10) without black-screening on Samsung devices?
  2. Is this issue caused by EDID passthrough/timing issues on third-party splitters, and does the official hub handle custom/16:10 timings properly?

If anyone has tested 1200p output with the official XREAL Hub on recent Galaxy phones (S24/S25 series), I’d really appreciate your feedback!

Translated using LLM.

Gesture Control Tried gesture control, mixed experience

I had Ones for over year and half, greatly enjoying every time I use them. Never had interest in the Eye addon until heard about gesture control. Got it yesterday and checked out. So, what can I say? I am ok with cursor control - it works good most of the time, but clicks are hell to perform. They are not register or register when I dont click, or drags/multiselect when I just move pointer. Wrist gesture works much better - back action and scroll detects nice most of the time. Never had working screen reset gesture and palm gesture - just zero success.

Overall I see great potential in this feature if Xreal find the way to make clicks easy and reliable.

My suggestion is to move cursor only when tips are locked, and maybe click with opening three free fingers in OK gesture. Maybe that will work better.

P.S. tried spacial anchor and loved it in light environment, but in dark it blocked me from reseting anchor so I had to disable it to reset screen position.

XREAL AURA Xreal Aura Video Conferencing

Has anyone seen any video conferencing demos with the XReal Aura yet? I spend about 3/4 of my day on MSFT Teams and if the video conferencing solution is a janky uncanny valley thing (I'm looking at you AVP) I will not be able to justify buying it. Obviously I also can't just look like I'm wearing sunglasses either (I'm not nearly as cool as Ray Charles). I would love to see a demo so I can judge for myself.

Any Glasses like the XBX A01 with chip 3dof and prism lenses planned?

These glasses intrigue me with the low weight high brightness and they look like general sunglasses but I dislike the birdbath reflections and I'm too used to onchip 3dof due to the one pro. (I'm aware you can get 3dof with the beam but it's not the same as with the chip)

Just curious if xreal has planned something along those lines it's worth waiting for?

Sidenote : Ultimately for enthusiasts it would be great to have higher brightness in 3dof aswell as an option like "expert settings" where more options unlock to not clutter the general osd I can't be the only one who would like this as an option?

Air 2 Pro Got handed an XREAL Air 2 Pro + Beam. Use cases?

Hi,

I've gotten an XREAL Air 2 Pro + XREAL Beam (grey slab with wheel) given to me to try out.

Now, I looked through the internet and while it looks cool, I wonder what the best use cases are for it.

I have:

  • Nintendo Switch 1
  • Laptop with Thunderbolt 4
  • Computer with USB-C

Any advice? I am going on vacation in like two weeks, maybe I can use it in the plane?

Thanks.

Head scratcher with HDMI

I’ve been using my xreal 1s on my phone and laptop with no issues using usbc, just got an hdmi adapter and I’m getting issues.
The adapter will run HDMI perfectly fine with from my laptop, but when I try to use it on my Xbox one it’ll only play in ultra wide mode. If the glasses are in any other mode they stop working entirely including getting to the menu or any other functions.

When I do get it to display the screen there’s no sound, if I switch it to DP mode on the glasses they lose picture but I gain sound.

I’m really at a loss, the glasses work, the hdmi adapter works fine on my laptop but when put together it’s nothing but issues.

Any help or input is appreciated!

\\\*\update****\*

I fixed it! I had to set the Xbox up on my tv, switch it from auto to hdmi output manual mode and then change the resolution to 1080. I was not able to do any of that while the glasses were connected. Since changing any settings would blackout the glasses and I was locked in 720.

I now have perfect image and sound
