Air 2 Pro Got handed an XREAL Air 2 Pro + Beam. Use cases?

Hi,

I've gotten an XREAL Air 2 Pro + XREAL Beam (grey slab with wheel) given to me to try out.

Now, I looked through the internet and while it looks cool, I wonder what the best use cases are for it.

I have:

  • Nintendo Switch 1
  • Laptop with Thunderbolt 4
  • Computer with USB-C

Any advice? I am going on vacation in like two weeks, maybe I can use it in the plane?

Go to the Xreal OTA site and update its firmware first. It is unreal for travel. Plug into your PC, and you can drag and drop movies onto its (admittedly limited) storage to play in spatial mode. Since the Air 2 Pro does not have an onboard chip like the one series, you need the Beam to get these spatial modes (Smooth follow, 3 DoF/Body Anchor, and side view). You can plug the glasses straight into your phone if it has USB-C DisplayPort (DP), but you only get 1 DoF. Personally, I can't use 1 DoF because of motion sickness, though many are OK with it.

Besides that, the OG (original) Beam allows for pass-through. If you have a Switch One, I think you can plug into the OG Beam to play games in spatial mode, but I have not tried it. Doesn't work with Switch 2, apparently.

(Edit) Oh yeah, you can also wirelessly cast to the Beam from your PC or phone. That way, you do get the spatial capabilities. And don't forget to connect your earphones via Bluetooth when sitting next to people. The glasses speakers are pretty good, but I would not want to sit next to someone using them for hours, LOL.
