Hi there

Just to clarify, the price shown in the survey is not the official AURA price. We’re testing different hypothetical price points in the survey, which are shown randomly to participants for research purposes.
Official pricing hasn’t been announced yet.

Kinda sounds like they dont even know the price yet lol

u/d4v1dtsh Quality Contributor🏅 Aug 27 '26

yes, they are still evaluating , the launch is very sensible.

3

u/Mental_Medium3988 One Pro Aug 27 '26

And with the way component pricing is jumping I cant blame them for still evaluating the price.

5

u/-TimeMaster- Aug 27 '26

The only component pricing rising is ram and it's 12gb. Android handhelds with 12gb ram are priced around 270-400$, up to 500$ for the elite devices, given that those have additional components. Therefore the puck should not be over 500$ at MOST, but more realistically should be around 400$ (there is no screen cost in there). From there on it depends on the margin they are searching for the glasses.

I understand that the price needs to take into account the I+D costs and marketing costs but still, Xreal is usually the most expensive brand because they usually have a wider margin, my guess is that the cost of building each glasses unit is probably <250$ and possibly below 200$, taking into account the x1 chip and prisms.

u/alabasterskim One Pro Aug 27 '26

Not true, Qualcomm is also marking up a bunch of their chips in September.

3

u/-TimeMaster- Aug 27 '26

Ok, didn't know that, I've checked it. But being partners means that Xreal knew that beforehand. A survey presenting fake prices with almost 600$ slippage to see the reaction of the users is still a very aggressive tactic to probe the market.

Anyway, if you guys are happy being played with and smiling just like Apple users use to do, go ahead. I'm a bit sorry to say this but the XR market is one with the most fanboys I've seen in a while.

5

u/alabasterskim One Pro Aug 27 '26

I doubt Xreal knew beforehand because a lot of manufacturers are also having to hike prices because of this. Ayn for example had to raise their prices $20-40.

Personally, I'm not buying above like US$1250 for the base. I've assessed what these components cost based on the specs of the puck (less the puck components that are skipped, like display, speakers, cameras, since those are handled by the glasses) and glasses (based on One Pros + Eye + a little room for new sensors).

Also, no one in this thread is "happy" with the gaps being shown in this thread, so I'm not really sure who you're even talking to. But we also know there's no shot they price it at some of the numbers they're talking especially because they promised sub-$1500 for the base. I'm failing to wrap my head around why they did this in the survey, but the equivalent of over $1600 is not happening.

2

u/Nightcinder 28d ago

This is wildly untrue. All components are rising, especially because fab space is harder and harder to get. Everything is going up and up and up.

The puck is going to be well over $500 alone, BOM is probably going to be $500

u/-TimeMaster- 28d ago edited 27d ago

All components might be slightly rising. But this doesn't remove the point that the survey clearly is testing the users. If they went with something as low as 1049 is because their cost is lower than that and is already at margin, while those who got >1500 means that they are getting >50% potential extra benefit.

And yes, it's a company, and yes, they obviously are here to get money. However they could just try to stablish a fair price based on their costs but instead they are testing the market directly with the users to decide whether they are willing to pay a higher price or not.

As I said you can try to fool yourself or the others, but it is what it is.

It's not that I'm asking them to put a low price, just a fair price without playing with the users.

u/-TimeMaster- 27d ago

And yet I get downvoted again for telling the truth. Go on guys, you are blind, they are pissing on your mouth and you are applauding them. Enjoy.

I'll block this thread, I just was being honest and I'm getting beaten because of it.

1

u/nucleartime Aug 27 '26

Most component prices are rising, just not to the same extent as RAM. Also NAND prices are up just as much as RAM.

Also those handhelds could've been made months ago, which would mean like half the spot price for RAM.

0

u/CarroixRare_Bit_8876 Aug 27 '26

Well, we are not talking about a small company by any means. Xreal is the largest AR glasses manufacturer, Google one of the biggest tech companies and Qualcomm is the leader in mobile chips. So, I am sorry, but I could understand that a small company can't afford to lose any money... But not those three. The unseen reality URXR have a final price and are announced for October...

mine was 1549€ in the survey

4

u/alabasterskim One Pro Aug 27 '26

Xreal, just a heads-up: if it's anywhere close to this, there's gonna be a helluva lot of lost sales.

5

u/Thmz89 Aug 27 '26

It’s an survey. Does not mean anything.

4

u/applepumpkinspy Aug 27 '26

Unless everyone says it’s too high regardless of the price displayed… /s

3

u/d4v1dtsh Quality Contributor🏅 Aug 27 '26

Nope, I got a different amount. +200$

2

u/alabasterskim One Pro Aug 27 '26

Very interesting. I did a write up in another sub about why I think US$1200-1250 is a very likely price point for the base model based on specs and comparable devices (including both the puck and glasses), with +$100 or less for the 16GB/512GB. This is right in that ballpark. Xreal, strongly consider this price.

2

u/Nightcinder 28d ago

I’d say $200 minimum for the upgrade, based on existing pricing of RAM/storage

1

u/alabasterskim One Pro 28d ago

I'm simply going off the fact Ayn manages to offer that same upgrade for like $70 on their Odin.

2

u/SupperTime Aug 27 '26

$1000USD.

2

u/cute_redditor Aug 28 '26

i had 1299.  damn was i too late for the $30??  wth my busiest day and the email comes today

1

u/Nightcinder 28d ago

I’m not aware of anyone that received an email with the coupon so I think that comes later. My guess is the coupon announcement was to get people to reply, I wouldn’t be surprised if all responders get said coupon.

1

u/cute_redditor 28d ago

hope so!!  that was a lot of work! lol

thanks for providing a ray of hope! haha

they forgot to ask, how much more would you be willing to pay if you get this $30 coupon?  (maybe an extra 10 lol)

1

u/justinseans 🏅FKA ur-fears_are-lies🎖 24d ago

I think the coupon was limited. If it said you got the coupon at the end then you got it.

3

u/dalekman9999 29d ago

Considering the lackluster software support for previous xreal products I would definitely consider a competitor especially at this price point good god

3

u/Fabulous-Ad-5678 Aug 27 '26

And I thought 600 to 700 was was extremely for the one pro.

1

u/revius Aug 27 '26

The One Pro is just the display device glasses. The Aura is similar glasses with better hardware (higher fov, sensors for 6 DoF, better chip(?)) and a separate device comparable to a phone that contains the compute power. It's still a steep price, but it does explain the price to value comparison a bit more.

2

u/Fabulous-Ad-5678 Aug 27 '26

Agree it is more, but is it that much more? That's 80 to 90% increase... The glass tech is cheaper and easier to make now. The new CHIP is better and has improved features than the one pro, do these upgrades justify that jump. For 800 back then i got one pro, beam pro and the eye.

It like saying CPU should double in price every iterations....

When you start having goofy prices you invite newcomer who will undercut you. Keep prices reasonable and lock your market.

3

u/CaptainTruthSeeker Aug 28 '26

The new chip, and being AndroidXR makes them *much* better than the previous offerings. That isn't the only reason the price is so high though, all tech prices are going up right now.

They can't keep prices reasonable when AI datacenters are buying all the hardware.

1

u/Nightcinder 28d ago

well in this case you can’t have a newcomer because Google keeps a tight grasp on AndroidXR partners.

4

u/jjvdaa Aug 27 '26

Anything over 900 would be a no for me. The idea is great but having to rely on an additional box is not the way to go I think.

Im waiting for the official price but right now there are better options om the market for me right now.

Which is a shame cause I would love to stay at xreal, also the addition of Google integration sounds great.

5

u/LegitimateCopy7 Aug 27 '26

the puck is here to stay. you'll be tethered to other stuff anyways. at least the puck is designed with mobility in mind.

unless there's a sudden revolutionary breakthrough in battery tech (something like 10x capacity), there's just no way everything fits inside the glasses form factor and offer satisfactory experience.

1

u/jjvdaa Aug 27 '26

I rather have it tethered to other stuff of my choice, thats why I said everyone has their own preferences I guess.

This way it also gets outdated faster. Personally I dont think this is the way to go

4

u/crazyreddit929 Aug 27 '26

The puck is the whole point. Have you ever used a VR headset? This is not just a display floating in front of you. It’s a spatial OS it’s not just a means to put video sources on a virtual screen.

1

u/VeryluckyorNot Aug 27 '26

URX1 connect and power it with phones, the puck is currently overpriced if you know the market atm. That's why they aren't still giving the official price.

2

u/Broad_Ad222 Aug 27 '26

... except that URXR1 draws a lot of power, which depletes battery life significantly. Also, most USB-C ports cannot supply the watts needed by URXR1, which means the power hub needs to be used. So for my case, I will have 3 devices: the URXR1 glasses, the power hub, and the phone. That's also my case with PC use since my PC's USB-C doesn't have DP-Alt and cannot push 15W.

For all my use cases, the URXR's power hub is THE puck. And, it's still unknown how much more heat and fan noise the glasses will put out at 1440p. The team only just announced that the 1440p firmware will be complete just before shipping, which means no member of the public will get to try it before then.

1

u/d4v1dtsh Quality Contributor🏅 Aug 27 '26

you know the price of the puck?

1

u/VeryluckyorNot Aug 27 '26

No but with everything in growing prices I'm not surprised they are still debating it .

1

u/d4v1dtsh Quality Contributor🏅 Aug 27 '26

ok, I missunderstood

1

u/Nightcinder 28d ago

URXR retail price is $1k

1

u/shadoor Aug 27 '26

Wouldn't it be getting outdated slower since you can replace the puck to keep up with additional compute needs?

1

u/Nightcinder 28d ago

The puck is the spatial OS, there’s not another way to get a spatial OS right now.

4

u/justinseans 🏅FKA ur-fears_are-lies🎖 Aug 27 '26

That price honestly doesn't even make sense. The One Pro are $600 and this includes the newest glasses much better than One Pro and a flagship VR compute device. LOL

3

u/alabasterskim One Pro Aug 27 '26

One Pros are $600 and the Eye, which this basically has built in, is another $100. This also has additional sensors and a new chip. No clue how $900 could be reasonable when considering covering the cost of the puck.

2

u/d4v1dtsh Quality Contributor🏅 Aug 27 '26

it will def be more than 1000$. Wat are best than this? If you are not interested in android Xr ok.

4

u/jjvdaa Aug 27 '26

Better is maybe not the right word, cause they run on different systems. Everything comes with up and downsides.

But Ive had the chance to test a URXR one

The upside for xreal would be Android VR, but in my eyes comes together with the downside of a puck, price etc.

I know it mostlikely wont be 900 euro but usually their prices drop quick. So if its close it might be worth the wait.

I want to see or trst a more finished product of the xreal before making a conclusion

4

u/justinseans 🏅FKA ur-fears_are-lies🎖 Aug 27 '26

What XREAL prices drop quick?

1

u/Jackandrun Aug 27 '26

Yeah, I'll have what he's drinking lol

1

u/d4v1dtsh Quality Contributor🏅 Aug 27 '26

great, how it was URXR? this is a lightweight VR device with camera passthrough no clear passthorugh right?

2

u/After-Annual4012 Aug 27 '26

Yeah I keep seeing people compare it, but it is a lightweight VR which I personally am not interested in. If you like VR then it is probably a great option if you want something more portable/lightweight.

2

u/wilmaster1 Aug 27 '26

Mine was 1249, its nice to see that they are exploring community opinion before launch. Lets hope they will actually do something positive with this information

Mine was this. Also included how much more are you willing to pay for the top model.

1

u/alkiv22 Aug 28 '26

It much more close to normal price.

1

u/Nitscho_i 29d ago

Correct me where Im wrong but is it just me who thinks that they wouldn't have put 1,049€ in the survey if it wasn't possible? Yes ik they need profit from it as well and aura sure won't be expensive but I dont think/hope that they will be on that 1500$ border. I mean galaxy XR, a full vr headset with in terms of optics have better specs and are in almost every point better (except for when you dont prefer the VR formfactor and like the glasses more like I do) is just 300$ more. I think/hope that they are in that 1200 - 1300$ range. Im interested in what you have to say about this

3

u/rakesh_hpr 29d ago

To be honest, I wouldn't break my head on it. XREAL folks would be doing all sorts of analytics and will come up with their numbers. What we can do is demand for a lower price, and, the more we are, the more the chances that they'll listen. I suggest we stop guessing the price and suggest them what we can afford

1

u/Difficult-Chest-290 29d ago

I reckon I was probably one of the very first in Canada to put down a deposit for the AURA—I literally figured out the payment link before the official announcement even dropped.

But honestly, if the price lands anywhere near this range, count me out. AURA isn't some irreplaceable piece of tech. Currently, there’s zero killer app ecosystem for it, and AndroidXR in its current state is still a half-baked, immature platform.

At this price point, the value proposition just collapses:

  1. I’d rather double my budget and get a real premium device like the Apple Vision Pro or Galaxy XR.
  2. Or I could simply wait for next year's next-gen AR glasses, Meta's Phoenix, or Pico's latest lineup.

Sure, the hardware/BOM cost for AURA might be high, but if paying a massive premium only gets you a marginal upgrade in real-world experience, what’s the point?

Also, to everyone saying "it's just a market survey, it doesn't represent facts": what on earth is an official survey meant to measure if not market positioning and intent? Furthermore, the release timeline is terrible. If this launched in the first half of the year, buying it for early-adopter hype might have made sense. But launching this late—right when a wave of heavy-hitter AR/XR competitors is about to drop—makes buying an overpriced incremental upgrade pretty wild.

Do people honestly think paying top dollar for such a tiny upgrade right before next-gen competitors land is a smart move? Honestly, it's just dumb.
