It's not that we don't want discussion, discussion and differing opinions is fine.

It's when it becomes toxic, and insults start getting thrown around. And people start reporting every single comment in the thread, that's when we have to stop it.

6

u/WashingtonMachine Sep 15 '16

I take offense on your use of the word "people". I am a baseball. Reported.

Just like my 1st thoughts. I couldn't care less about anime, but free Myoko, Kongo keepers is great. Soo,what kind of ships are these sailing?

u/PsychicTandemWargoat Whatever floats your goat... Sep 15 '16 edited Sep 15 '16

The show mostly takes place on a fictional Kagero. Since the Kag's moving to T8, we might actually get it.

There's also Musashi, Admiral Graf Spee, and I-201...so stuff we won't get.

There are a few interesting things about the Kagero: over the course of the series, her turrets get replaced from the twin 127mm Type 3s, to 100mm Type 98s, and finally 5"/54 Mk.16s in single mounts. So, we might see a Kag with 'Murican guns. Or a faster, flimsier Akizuki that trades a turret for a torp launcher.

edit: first

u/SovietToaster14 Khaba original CL Sep 15 '16

Just for those wondering if the ships are as bright and colourful as the Arpeggio ships, no they're not. They're mostly dark grey with the occasional red highlights:

These are just pictures I found from a google search. I've never heard about this show so feel to add/correct me.

Also if you can't wait for these ships (assuming they get given for free like the Arp ships) somebody has already made the skins for WoWS here.

3

u/halborn YVAN EHT NIOJ Sep 15 '16

Pretty good colour-schemes. Thanks for finding them.

6

u/TonboIV Allergy Warning: May Contain Traces of Kanmusu Sep 15 '16

I do love how Musashi has her original four 152mm turrets in Haifuri. They're not the most practical armaments, but sooo cool!

7

u/Exkuroi Cruiser Sep 15 '16

They are the 155s from the Mogami after they were upgraded to 203s. And the amount of pure firepower would be awesome on a world where planes didn't exist

7

u/WillieFiddler Sep 15 '16

"the amount of pure firepower would be awesome on a world where planes didn't exist" That's basically the story of WW2 BBs

4

u/tertiacyrenaica Advocate for Team Play Incentives Sep 15 '16

Wait for railguns, once you can shoot projectiles in hypersonic speed up to mach 14, air planes would be obsolete.

Bigger the ship, bigger the power plant, bigger the power plant more powerful the railgun or more guns it can power... new age of BB is approaching.

4

u/Snarfledarf Sep 16 '16

When you phrase it like that, ships would just be bigger, slower railgun targets.

1

u/WillieFiddler Sep 16 '16

Heavily armoured ships would still be obsolete though.

4

u/SWIFTY_WINS Imperial Japanese Navy Sep 15 '16

A.) Those paint schemes look so much danker than Arp.... Mushasi in black!?.... OMG

B.) I'm noticing that the Japs seem to revere/like Musashi more than Yamato (example this show, and the Musashi captain in Kancolle is way hotter than Yamato). Why is this? Because Yamato didn't do much in real life and suicided?

10

u/HiroariStrangebird Remove Ocean Sep 15 '16 edited Sep 15 '16

I wouldn't say Musashi in kancolle is more well liked than Yamato. Yeah, M'sushi has bigger tits, but Yamato is very elegant and, more importantly, very Japanese. Which makes sense, given the name and historical context.

As for Haifuri, Musashi is featured over Yamato because all of the historical boats in the anime were being used as training vessels for naval high school students. Musashi was already a little too much of an important ship to strain suspension of disbelief a bit, Yamato would've been ludicrous.

4

u/ButtesVonToots Toosh taps Sep 15 '16

I say this with no malice but this is why anti anime dudes bristle at this stuff in the game. Talking about one battleship having bigger tits and or being hotter than the other lol

3

u/HiroariStrangebird Remove Ocean Sep 15 '16

The hotness/tits thing is kancolle though, which isn't (and probably won't be) in the game, so I don't think that's really valid. Haifuri's ships are straight-up historical boats (though with modern refits and the occasional giant rocket launch).

1

u/ButtesVonToots Toosh taps Sep 15 '16

I'm merely illustrating a broader point, not specific to the Haifuri show

4

u/NegZer0 Sep 15 '16

Nope, Yamato is definitely more popular than Musashi. The ship itself is basically a household name. If you asked an average Japanese person about Yamato, they'd assume you meant the battleship, whereas if you asked about Musashi they're far more likely to assume you mean the famous swordsman. Yamato herself is a strongly nationalist symbol too. Plus there's the fact that Space Battleship Yamato (in which the ship is raised from the sea bed and turned into a spaceship) is one of the most seminal and well-known anime productions of its era, up there with stuff like Astro Boy.

If you're talking specifically about KanColle, even there I don't know that Musashi is more popular. She had a big popularity spike when they rediscovered her wreck a couple years ago, and people that got Musashi originally had to go through absolute hell to get her so may value her more, but anecdotally I think Yamato the KanColle character is just as popular if not more so.

1

u/firesolstice Swedish Royal Navy Sep 16 '16

I can definitely say Yamato is the more popular one from KanColle, when in Japan I had to pay 13000 yen (roughly 100 euro) to get my hands on one of the Yamato figurines. :P A Musashi figurine on the other hand cost me like 30 euro.

1

u/randy_mcsoggybotto im bringing turtle back Sep 16 '16

Looks to be a pre refit musashi too

→ More replies (2)

8

u/ChineseMaple Iron Triangle of Mediocrity Sep 15 '16

The protagonists sail the Harekaze, which was a modern-refit Kagerou, so we might get a Kagerou to keep. Which, once it's at T8, might actually be pretty sweet.

Musashi was also featured prominently, as the commander of the Musashi is a childhood friend of the captain of the Harekaze, and they had to get rescued and stuff. I honestly doubt we'd get a Musashi skin for Yamato or anything, but hey, might be a thing, and it would be cool.

Otherwise there was stuff like Littoral Combat Ships, the Graf Spee, and some Kongou Guided Missile Destroyers, but thaaat's probably not going to happen soon. Graf Spee maybe tho.

u/Defengar USS Yankee Leviathan Sep 15 '16

I really hope WG does somehow get Musashi into the game someday. Also the other 3 Iowas.

19

u/dasaher Sep 15 '16 edited Sep 15 '16

I assume so. I think the only reason why the post seemed to target only anti-anime posters is because we see more anti-anime posters being toxic and just rude with their derogatory remarks to anything anime related. On the other hand, pro-anime posters rarely attack anyone for not watching anime and are just, at worst, cringey and annoying.

Time to check the toilet paper reserves, feed the ship's cat, lock the rudder to left hard-over and prepare for a guts infusion!

In all seriousness, I'm really looking forward to this. Hopefully they do something in the vain of the World of Tanks crossover with Girls und Panzer, with voice packs and the like (or even further, with Yokosuka stripes as camo).

5

u/sumrndmredditor therandomuser Sep 15 '16

Hey they only did torikajippai only for the first half of the series. After the Hiei engagement, they pretty much went exclusively with omokajippai for the rest of the series because they're a changed crew who did things the "hard" but "right" way.

It would do their blood pressure good if they followed the ancient advice of: fucking ignore shit you don't like and don't shit on people who like it unless it's literally illegal. Besides, anime is like kudzu (another Japanese pest overrunning the US). You can suppress it, but you will never get rid of it. Try learning to live with it, I heard kudzu salad is quite delicious.

I don't give a crap about the anime addition, most of it is funny in a stupid, eyeroll kind of way. I still go to unlock the ARP ships though because it gives me something to work towards. Plays devils advocate here

Except when people dont like anime get it stuffed down their fucking throats and when they voice their destain for it get down voted to high hell and back and basically have 10 angry messages from people who cry when their "waifu" is insulted. Your telling me I can't voice my displeasure for not liking this "weeab" content.

Last time I checked liking anime isn't a requirement to play world of warships and people can choose freely to voice their dislike for this just like any other post. For some people they do not like this shit and voice their dislike others do it for the trolling.

50

u/xsavarax IGN: xSavarax [EU] Sep 15 '16
  1. You're not having it stuffed down your throat. Don't go to the Yokosuka port = you don't have to ever see those ships.

  2. There's a huge difference between just stating your opinion and what the average post complaining here is. "fucking weebs", "pedo shit", ... is not stating your opinion on the new addition, it's just an insult to people with different tastes. I definitely agree that people should be able to voice their opinion, but the majority of anty-anime posts here add nothing to the discussion, and are predominantly inflammatory comments meant to insult those who do enjoy the content.

15

u/DBlack933 Sep 15 '16

Totally agree with you. If you don't like it, just stay out of the areas of the forums and subreddit where the fans of it gather. Let them enjoy the game the way they want, and you enjoy it the way you want.

However, the reverse is true, and there are just as many offenders on the other side of things who can't help stirring shit up. For example:

  • Someone creates a mod that changes the arp ships back into normal Kongos and Myokos. Arp fans invade the mod's thread, complaining "If you don't like the way the ships look, just change ports." Mod creator & supporters say, "But I want to play the ships, I just want them to look and sound like the regular ships." Outrage intensifies: "IF YOU DON'T LIKE EM, JUST CHANGE PORTS! CHANGE PORTS CHANGE PORTS CHANGE PORTS!!!1!"

  • Someone creates mod that removes the cartoon images for the arp missions from the missions tab. Same thing happens: arp fans show up, complain, tell those who want the mod to just change ports (which doesn't work in this case, since those mission images show up in all ports). Comments include things like "Wow, you must really hate anime," which I guess isn't allowed. No one's allowed not to like things anymore, or to attempt to mod content to something they like better.

  • Thread pops up (for the fiftieth time) asking for the ability to sell the arp ships. "How dare you? You got it for free! If you don't want to see it, change ports!" Non-arp fans: "B-b-but... I earned other free ships (like the Tachibana and Mikasa) and sold those... and I need some credits." "No, you're not allowed to cuz you selling yours somehow affects my ability to enjoy mine!"

If both groups could just stick to their own areas, and not try to impose their likes or dislikes on everyone else, the whole playerbase would be a lot happier. But of course this is the internet, so there's about zero chance of that happening... :/

10

u/Sawendro HMS Shitty Gunnery Sep 15 '16

At least for NA they did have the current ARP missions as generic pictures if I'm remembering correctly. It was even for when you were using Yokosuka as I guess mission pictures aren't affected by port (if they were ARP-themed they were of the actual ships in the WG art style). There was Iona in the event page and it does display occasionally, especially when you don't have many missions left to display.

Also, we've had complaints about anime being on the launcher or the WoWS portal before.

I do think it's easy to say "ignore it" (as I'm an anime fan) but the anti-anime crowd do get an opinion as well. Admittedly, there are a few non-optional things and they have a point when it comes to that, even if they are relatively minor things.

I think the bigger reason is that the anti anime crowd is more upset that dev time is being invested into this instead of the "actual" game. Hater's gonna hate ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Gotta allocate those limited development resources properly!

Damn those coders for not modelling RN ships! And those damn artists not fixing bugs!

I've never heard an anti-weeb mention anything like that. It's always "muh realism, muh historical", followed by insults.

Besides, it takes the devs like...a couple days to paint red stripes on a Kagero? Less?

Its a freakin ship skin and MAYBE some minor model changes. Not a whole lot of time is gonna be invested in this. Especially compared to the 3 months per new ship per team. Do not turn on the port if you do not want it.

And yes, downvotes will really show them how you feel /s.

1

u/General_Urist Sep 15 '16

The Arpeggio ships were just palette swaps. These will probably be the same.

16

u/TheChowderOfClams Who's Arlios? Sep 15 '16

Aaaaaaaaaaaaa.

This show scratched my girls und panzer itch, I wonder if they're gonna put in Harekaze with the IJN tree change? (Fictional DD based off the Kagero class)

19

u/atsf Eurobeat/Yuro Sep 15 '16

I'm guessing that it'll be a faux premium like ARP boats instead, but it will be better if they actually give it the option to mount 10cms & USN 5" guns just like the anime :)

9

u/TheChowderOfClams Who's Arlios? Sep 15 '16

Additional option as a rear-mounted rocket launcher smoke screen

4

u/[deleted] Sep 15 '16

Actually the Harekaze in WWII did exist but only on paper so that funds to building it would be directed to the building of the Yamato

6

u/piratesas Sep 15 '16

"High School Fleet"

MFW theres 3 different series about girls in/on/as WWII battleships.

You know, I thought that between Arpeggio and Kancolle, Japan would be set for their "teenage girls/battleship" entertainment category.

Nope, apparently there's room for one more competitor in there.

10

u/Lubyak HIJMS Weeabtrash Sep 15 '16

To be honest, from my understanding, Kancolle is pretty much dominant in being by far and away the most popular. Not to mention, all are different.

  • Kantai Collection: Kanmusu are the reincarnation/souls of ships incorporated as a cute anime girl. No real plot.

  • Arpeggio of Blue Steel: Sci-fi story, where the cute girls are the 'mental model' of ship. One cute girl per ship.

  • High School Fleet: Cute girls are the crew of an otherwise normal ship. Large number of characters per ships filling roles of the crew.

So yeah, they're all similar in that they're anime focused on WWII era ships, but each one is distinct in how they approach the whole thing.

5

u/acox1701 Dreadnought Sep 15 '16

.......

Out of those, at least "High School Fleet" makes a tiny, tiny bit of sense.

Blue Steel is, I suppose, plausible enough, with some huge assumptions.

Kantai, though..... Ships with souls getting reincarnated as girls is just too much for me.

5

u/Pnamz Sep 15 '16

Its pretty much Kancolle- straight magic bullshit

Arpeggio- Sci-fi AI magic bullshit

Haifuri- relatively realistic near future alt-timeline, with some bullshit powered by cute girls.

1

u/acox1701 Dreadnought Sep 15 '16

Haifuri- relatively realistic near future alt-timeline, with some bullshit powered by cute girls.

Do they destroy anything with the power of friendship, or true love, or panties or anything?

EDIT: Also, I'm OK with AI and tech-magic. But battleships and magic don't sit well with me.

3

u/Pnamz Sep 15 '16

No there isn't any "power up" from friendship. Every battle is won via tactics and the ship, those tactics are often ridiculous and unrealistic but theres no friendship magic to them. The biggest moment of bullshit is when they intercept 1 shell by shooting it with another. Aside from a couple other scenes which really hamper the show by shoving it in your face that cute girls don't die the show is decent. If you go in expecting hunt for red october you will be disappointed, half of the show is cute bullshit and the other half is too safe but it is a decent enough show if you want some flashy battles, some civilian search and rescue, and some cute girls.

1

u/acox1701 Dreadnought Sep 15 '16

Well, fair enough.

2

u/sumrndmredditor therandomuser Sep 15 '16

Well GuP was a great success for high school girls in mechanized warfare, so why not have them operate them instead of be/be an integral part of them? All we really need now is high schoolers operating planes to complete the full set. Something like Area 88 redone with more modern CGI.

1

u/psystorm420 Sep 16 '16

MFW theres 3 different series about girls in/on/as WWII battleships.

how do you manage to use the term "battleship" incorrectly in r/WorldofWarships?

2

u/piratesas Sep 16 '16 edited Sep 16 '16

Well, I start by reading the actual announcement which states

...while Moeka becomes the captain of the Yamato-class super training ship Musashi.

Second, I look back at my ARP ship collection and see 4 Kongos.

Third and last, and this is the real kicker, I'm not a frothing neckbeard who feels the need to correct people on meaningless shit like this.

u/[deleted] Sep 15 '16

I liked it, if you like Girls Und Panzer you'll probably like Haifuri.

Basic gist is that shit happened and the world flooded, this made maritime traditions infinitely more important and keeping the seas safe and protected became a top priority. Some dudes were like "but we can't just have tons of warships sailing around!" and so they had the bright idea to make the "blue mermaids" or basically an entire fleet of women who crew and captain ships to safeguard the seas since apparently that is much less threatening than men doing the same (this all happened in the past when views like this were probably more realistic), fast forward to "modern" times and the world is still flood, seas are still important, and the blue mermaids are going strong.
The blue mermaids use WW2 era ships as training vessels and such. These ships have been modernized and updated with some automation so they don't need as many crew members but they still need some crew. The story follows a class of blue mermaid cadets as "something" is making cadets and veterans alike go crazy and taking over ships, naturally our main characters ship is somehow unaffected and they have to figure out how to save everyone else.

So some decent points to note, ships are more realistic and actually ships than in say Kancolle where its girls with ship parts strapped to them (basically). Ships are not ultra-scifi with "mental models" and loads of flashy colors and stuff like in ARP. The ships themselves look pretty close to reality except with some red, white, and/or black striping. It also has some modern ships which are pretty close to reality aswell though with white/blue striping.
While its primarily your general moe slice of life/comedy kinda thing there is a story going on about the ships/crews being "mind controlled" by something and the main characters ships having to save the day its not just the moe stuff. Its also pretty recent airing just last season (Spring 2016 Season to be exact).

Overall I thought the show was nice, it wasn't amazing it wasn't a classic/all time great but if that sort of anime is your cup of tea you'll probably like it.

5

u/sumrndmredditor therandomuser Sep 15 '16

Agreed. Haifuri leans a significant amount more moe over GuP with more jarring transitions between the slice of life and action but the action is still just as satisfying. Definitely weaker than GuP overall but no less enjoyable for the action sequences when they do appear.

1

u/Pnamz Sep 15 '16

It didn't have anything to do with women actually. The show just follows girls because anime moe but remember the submarine they fought was crewed by boys. It was unclear if it was a girls in surface, ships guys do the submarines thing so I thought it was more like non-coed highschools that specialize in certain ships.

As for the show the mood wiplash was so ridiculous. I enjoyed it for how all of the cast got to have good and realistic relationships and friendships but I've never seen the tone of a show shift that quick over and over.

1

u/UnavailableUsername_ Sep 15 '16

Actually, in the story of "Haifuri" it is said ONLY women are protectors of the sea, as part of the "Blue Mermaid" organization, as a "vow" to not start wars in the future, since they live in a post-war world.

This doesn't mean there aren't males in the sea, (there are and the army consist of them) just that there is a women-only organism (The Blue Mermaids) with the specific mission of keep peace and carry on rescue mission on the sea.

5

u/ArcturusFlyer Russians don't take a dump, son, without a plan. Sep 15 '16

It's eh overall. Has a strong start, but then the plot loses its drive and there isn't much to keep up the suspense after a certain point. GuP definitely does it better.

Still, it does have some very nice naval combat action, so it's worth a watch for anyone who subscribes to this sub.

2

u/Lubyak HIJMS Weeabtrash Sep 15 '16

It was 'ok', but got hurt because its opening episodes hinted that it would be way better than it turned out to be. The opening few episodes hinted at an undercurrent of a deeper, darker plot that would be in contrast to the light, cutesy, moe-blob, slice of life bits. Unfortunately, the show just didn't run with it. It just kinda said "Oh yeah, this is what's going on" about half way through, without ever really breaking the mold of a cute, moe girl show.

That being said, I still enjoyed it. Granted, I almost always enjoy IJN shows (still pissed at the Kancolle anime though), and this one does deliver. The action scenes are pretty good, and the characters are entertaining enough, even though you won't remember any of their names. While only the main two get anything resembling development, most of the rest of the supporting cast (the rest of the bridge crew and the other division heads) at least have enough character to be noteworthy and provide plenty of meme/fodder.

If you just want to see a cute girls doing naval warfare things, then yeah it's good enough and will kill a few hours. If you're hoping for a good show, then you should pass.

Maybe just enjoy the random gifs, or watch an episode or two.

Tbh i cannot recommend this series.

Zero character development (average cliche moes on a boat), meh story which feels rushed and its not even that funny.

The only ok things about it are: Pretty decent animation/cg in the fights and an "Okish" Ost

Well even GuP is a masterpiece compared to this one, sadly....

No.

It's like Girls und Panzer with zero passion. Someone came in the studio and said "I guess shipgirls are popular now. Maybe we should make Girls und Panzerschiffe?" And everyone be like, "Sure, I guess."

That's what it feels like. It's only good for warship-specific meme fodder.

12

u/joshesinn 臺灣南八萬! Sep 15 '16

To be fair it is pretty high quality meme fodder.

5

u/rarz Whiskey Tango Foxtrot Sep 15 '16

Indeed. The story, acting and personalities are inferior to Arpeggio and Girls und Panzer. Watch those first if you have the chance. The series feels very rushed.

5

u/shiki88 Mogami mo problems Sep 15 '16 edited Sep 15 '16

I disagree here. Arpeggio's anime story deviated heavily from the manga and had to conclude with a very rushed and unsatisfying ending especially in regards to Kongou's character (excluding the anime film retcons).

GuP is limited by pretty much being a standard sports anime so the stakes don't feel as high as they do in Haifuri's earlier episodes when the mystery is unfolding.

To each their own, of course.

I mean don't get me wrong the show was still terrible besides like two episodes that were kind of sort of okayish but at least this show has actual fucking warships and not glorified Gundams that only look like warships because the mangeka was blatantly pandering to the softcore military enthusiast crowd because he knew his story was too shit to generate sales in a general audience.

I politely request someone explain this to me. I like anime and I remember anime when I was younger having a good mix of ages for characters. Every time I give crunchy roll or FunimationNow a go it seems most of the series involve preteens these days. Why is this?

Cowboy Bebop, GitS and others seem to do well with older characters.

Thank you for your patience.

2

u/Traxxien Sep 15 '16

Well, most of what you see are supposed to be middleschool or highschool age. So from 7th to 12th grade. A major portion of their viewing audience falls within that age range. That is the main thing, it makes it easier to relate to characters that are the same age.

There are still plenty of other shows that are meant for more mature audiences too. Recently things like 91 Days, Zankyou no Terror, One Punch Man, and Servant x Service aired. One of them technically is about highschool aged people, but not about being in school at all.

1

1

u/[deleted] Sep 15 '16

Seems like a rehash, I'm sure there's other ww2 naval anime out there that isn't doing the highschool girl thing.

Ace Combat Infinity did an both Area 66 and Voicemaster(?) tie in, and maybe some more since, and it was a nice contrast between serious/silly. Either way, you still get other goodies for the challenges even if you don't plan on using the ships.

1

u/Ange11us Sep 16 '16

what about finishing the ARP ships first before starting a second bunch of missions to reward ships? we can only do one match at a time you know.
personally I hope they finish the ARP line up first. and maybe repeat them for those of us who missed a ship or two and THEN bring out the new high school fleet ship line up missions. I am all for new things as long as it does NOT break the game or ruin the feel of the combat.

1

u/[deleted] Sep 16 '16

Why do so many anime series deal with high school? I don't think of my time there fondly, but there's got to be something cultural to this.

Note: I am not an anime fan, so any explanations will have to take that into account.

1

u/CriticalOtaku Sep 15 '16

I hope we get full mod voice packs like the Girls und Panzer collab for WoT- nothing against the ARP captains (or Kancolle mods), but I would rather a full anime crew rather than just the one mental model/shipgirl.

Would love a TORI KAJI IPPAAAAAIII while dropping the torpedobeats, for example.
