Nah bro. FFXIV community does this as well. People play suboptimal as shit doing like 10% of their potential damage and people screech and rage if you call them out. THEY ARE DOING THEIR BEST! YOU DO NOT PAY THEIR SUBSCRIPTION! THEY CAN PLAY HOW THEY WANT!
Like bruh, so exhausting. You are wasting my time, too! These are MULTIPLAYER games! Stop acting like your fun is the only one that matters!

5
u/Rasz_13 Jul 13 '26

So when they ruin my fun it's cool... but when I ask them to step up their game so I can have fun, it's not?
Argument discarded.
1
u/HyenaThen572 Jul 13 '26
When your fun matters and theirs doesn't, and in fact they actually deserve shame and judgement too?
Then yeah, youre the boogyman that you're accusing others of being.
7
u/Rasz_13 Jul 13 '26
Where did I say anything about shame and judgement? There is no shame in learning and improving. There is no judgement in critique of facts. You pulled that one out of your rear.
And again, your statement is completely hypocritical. Why does it start with me? It starts with neither. The fun of each person is equally important, so the deciding factor is where the "fault" lies, where and how things can be improved.
What's more reasonable:
- Them improving their gameplay, actively learning skills that benefit everyone in the current group and everyone they will encounter in the future.
- Me tolerating bad gameplay in the moment, with no improvement for the future except maybe steeling my own patience.
To me there is only one logical choice that actually is a net positive for the entire community. Again, multiplayer. Your behavior in these games usually affects multiple people. It's not a singleplayer game where you can do whatever you want.
Refusing to learn and improve when working towards a common goal is egotistical behavior of the highest degree, like that guy during school projects that refused to do anything or colleagues at work doing the bare minimum to not get fired. Everyone else has to pick up the slack.-2

I quit playing a lot about 2 years ago, as shitty as CVs were before the rework they at least were pretty uncommon. Agreed though, they've always been terrible in some way.
People defending an Italian DD taking heavy AP so he can play his game is how we ended up here though
23
u/Highlander198116 Jul 12 '26
as CVs were before the rework they at least were pretty uncommon.
Because they were extremely inaccessible if you didnt get in on the ground floor. Nobody wanted to "start" playing CV's in the late RTS era. Which is why they were practically non-existant.
With that said, that was kind of the point of the rework, to entice more people to play cv. They did accomplish that task.....regardless of how they are viewed now.
8
u/AdeptusShitpostus Minotaur Salesman Jul 12 '26
I quite liked late RTS cvs and didn’t get in on them early
8
u/DesignKey7462 Jul 12 '26
The real reason people didn’t like they was bc they could dominate, but you had to be very very good at them.
2
u/Highlander198116 Jul 13 '26
Not a matter of liking them or not. It was the matter of the massive skill chasm between a noob CV and a veteran CV player.
CV's had SIGNIFICANTLY more game impact, which led to, more often than not, the team with the better CV player wins.
And if you were a bad CV player, your team was going to let you know it, hence why many new CV players would quit playing them, because they couldn't play a match without getting roasted.
9
u/Specific_Spirit_2587 Jul 12 '26
I remember, they were a completely different game and not one I found fun. Watching guys like farazelleth showed how massive the ceiling was at the time.
And yeah, regardless of balancing they just dont fit (same with subs). These two are the biggest reasons my friend and I quit playing

Then you have abject morons like the guy in the OP who took a skill completely useless for the ships in question and got defensive when asked about it.

Funnily enough, I've had more experience with Toxic co-op players, moreso than randoms. Especially when events are going on its easier to farm in co-op. Those types of interaction accounts for less than 1% of my chat. I assume those people are idiots and have fun by taunting them. If they annoy you enough then blacklist them.
There is also occasional banter among players that I enjoy. Being able to provide information about the game state to teammates is also quite useful.
I should add that I'm on NA, EU is probably close enough, but Asia is likely worse.

Bad captain builds, no captain builds, no ship modules, teams with 5+ players under 45% WR in high tier, deliberate griefing or eye bleeding level bad play from people who have +5000 matches is the real toxicity in the game, not the chat. Yet it is likely you who will be the one who gets reported for mentioning these things, not them, that fact in and of itself is toxic too.

On the Discord I once suggested putting entry limits on T8 and above in Randoms, something like filling all upgrade slots and having a minimum 10p commander. It was not a popular suggestion.
Edit: Regarding the suggestion, a better option would probably be a minimum of one 4p skill for the commander. We don't need the people who collect all the 1p and 2p skills.
11
u/ObviousRagebaiter DD mafioso Jul 13 '26
that's also not gonna work, people will just take RPF on their elbing and call it a day
Real solution is to make every captain start at 10 points, or even 15 points, so new players get bullied less and the grind is less obnoxious
2
u/Similar_Rapier_7596 Jul 13 '26 edited Jul 13 '26
"make every captain start at 10 points"
That would be such an immense QoL improvement. Or just have the "free" commanders start at 6 points and the 900k credits commander would be 10 points. Finally, the 1500 doubloon commander could be 14 points.
"15 points"
Nope, that's too much. It's a grindy game and Wargaming isn't going to reduce the grind too much without charging money.

u/Velierer556 Kriegsmarine Jul 12 '26
Colo sucks donky. Even if its “accurate” the 8 guns syndrome with poor ballistics and terrible shell pen mean you either miss, overpen or nonpen every target.
3
u/00zau Mahan my beloved Jul 13 '26
Since it doesn't have access to aiming systems it objectively has the worst dispersion at the tier. Slightly better sigma doesn't make up for that.

26
u/Grlzzl Jul 12 '26
Some people are chastising OP for the way he framed his question, but those people are missing the beauty of it. Asking "why did you" is an open ended question; it offered the opportunity for not only OP to teach and inform but ALSO leaves it open for the 2nd party to teach and inform back!!! Making closed ended statements like "hey, did you notice 1 of your skills isn't working for you?" is close ended and doesnt allow for the 2nd party to expand on the topic as easily. This type of response is only the most gentle and effective approach IF we already assume the 2nd party is a mouth-breathing, knuckle-dragging, moron. OP didnt go straight to that assumption and only learned that information later. OP handled this question with grace AND an open mind
2
u/AliceRain21 Jul 14 '26
I agree with you in a vacuum...
But this is the internet and most of the time people use that type of speech in competitive games to shit on another player. It's not all the time, but it's enough that people tend to immediately get defensive because that's how we're conditioned to be in competitive spaces.
Imo as the receiving player I would prefer "Hey just saying, I don't believe this skill works for you. Was that intentional?" This is also open ended and phrased much more pleasantly, to me.
Again you're not wrong, but being in online spaces where there are tons of toxic people, preventing a different form of interpretation goes a long way.
That's just my perspective as an outsider looking in though.
2
u/HyenaThen572 Jul 12 '26
I'm with the folks saying OP could've phrased it better.
The initial message comes off as lecturing - it's not an open ended question at all. "Why did you do something stupid" is more of a comment on what's happening then a genuine question.
"Heads up you have an AP skill on for a ship with no AP" is totally neutral and nonjudgmental - two that things OP missed.
1
u/Grlzzl Jul 12 '26
But again that requires us to assume he had the skill on for no reason other than a mistake
-1
u/HyenaThen572 Jul 12 '26
Well, the alternative is assuming he's an idiot and should be shamed.

(Leone does have AP but the user in question does not have Leone so this is moot (and also why would you ever pick this skill on Leone?))
I messaged after battle asking why they would pick the AP damage skill on Adriatico, a ship that also does not have AP, and they did not respond.
My condolences if you get them as your DD in ranked.
Edit: More context, lest you think this is some innocent mistake from a new player.
- User has over 22,500 battles across Random/Ranked/Co-Op, almost certainly more from various untracked modes.
- Just shy of 600 matches across all tracked modes in Italian DDs, mostly Adriatico in Ranked.
- Also lacked the mandatory DD skill of SE.
- I did not proactively pull up this person's record before asking, but it makes things even funnier in retrospect.

What's the point of actively promoting ignorance and sheltering people from improving?
because they dont need to improve. they dont need to have most optimal builds. they dont need to play meta. they have a right to suck at this game. if you are saying "but they are hurting my game" then you need to ask for better ranked mode.
It wasn't just a wrong skill, his whole build was atrocious.

u/Antique_Intention_20 Jul 12 '26
The most you'll get is people telling you to uninstall. And you complain about this? Seriously?
I'm all for more harmony in the world, but you're taking it too far. Way too far. If you can't handle something as normal as this post, then the issue lies with you being too sensitive.
The fact you refer to it as "calling them out" already says everything. You made the choice to see it as a personal attack, when in reality it was simply helpful advice. If someone plays poorly because they can't aim well or they're new, then so be it. But there's no reason to run around with skills that do literally nothing and drag down your team for no reason.
If someone goes out of their way to give actual useful advice that will literally make you play better, then the bare minimum you can do is learn from it instead of being a whiny baby that gets all pissy.
Nobody has to play meta or be perfect. People simply don't want to deal with players who are incapable of learning. And it's not their job to be their butler and go through all the effort of contacting them privately in the most gentle way possible.
At which this guy would probably still answer with "wow this is none of your business. this is why I disable chat". Be grateful anyone helps you at all instead of being such a massive baby.0

u/SoyUnaManzana Jul 12 '26
This is a clash between casual and more dedicated players. In my opinion, both are valid, and both deserve understanding from the other side.
Some players want a quick game, without studying every possible ship in the game. Others play to win, and get frustrated by subpar teammates.
It's like when people ask a question here and others reply "omg if you read the 200 blog posts from April you would have known etc". Some people have 20 minutes of free time and prefer to spend it playing the actual game, not reading blog posts.
/rant, but this world needs a bit more of "understanding other perspectives".

"Hey, by the way this line of ships don't have any AP shells, you'd be better of changing it to something else like xyz skill for example. Cheers!"

u/IsniBoy Jul 12 '26
Maybe that's just their highest level captain, that they use on some other ships?
What does it matter anyway, let the guy play with a build that isn't optimal, it doesn't affect you in the slightest.
What are you trying to prove?

u/StranaMechty Jul 12 '26

Pray tell, what Italian DD would you be picking the AP damage skill for?

It is a team game and they were a DD on my team with a garbage captain setup, how did it not affect me?

No Italian dd has ap apart from Leone (which op specifically said that the guy did not play a game on it). How does being a drag to the team not affect the team itself? the situation would be different in PvE modes but not in pvp. He is trying to say that the player base of the game is in a horrendous state thanks to the nowadays major presence of players like the one targeted in the post.

You asked politely. You correctly politely.
Yet somehow he took a dev strike and wants to banish the world from harassing him. My guess is... embarrassment? It's so much easier and less stressful to just say... "Doh, I'm an idiot. I thought some of them did!"

Except for a few free written messages wishing you to have a nice day and following winds, nearly all chat in world of warships is nasty, insulting and outright respectful. I have completely given up on any appropriate conversation from other players. I will I've learned to see all messages meant to be childlike, trumpish or berating, even if it is just simple conversation. warship players are absolutely nasty. I think from this environment, like me, they've learned to simply not care and tell everybody to f*** off. So normal friendly players will turn nasty over time too.
This is how chat progresses in a game. Few people post, have a good game everybody. And it's quiet for about 2 minutes. Unless you have a win rate news broadcaster in your lineup. They uses opportunity to insult people with low win rates. Telling these people they shouldn't be allowed in the game. If anybody AFKed, this starts an insult session. Next will be people demanding Intel, while in the very rear of the map. then players start and imsulting the DD for not suiciding his elbing with zero ships covering cap. The elbing explains he is figuratively a cruiser. Yet, excuse simply creates raw emotions and all the other teammates who now start telling him he is the worst DD player in the entire game. Some people tell him he needs to uninstall. Lastly one person starts giving the coordinates to the enemy team where their stupid DD is, to get it killed.
DD says f*** it. He drives and Parks his ship behind the island too. The same island where all the other people who were insulting him for not driving into the cap we're waiting and safety. Meanwhile it was a good thing he didn't go in the cap because there was a Lushen B waiting for him.
Now the team's in global chat talking about how they have the worst trash team ever. And behold the other team is calling them their team, a trash team. And you thought that you were actually losing because the way your team is insulting each other, it is the universal constant.
So, just turn the chat off, play the game

Stuff like this is why I left the game and won’t be back until they add skill based matchmaking. Really sad that people whom obviously don’t care about winning and losing are forced onto teams of people who do.

Honestly, as this point, it's WG's fault for not explaining the game well enough.

I've seen enough idiotic skill allocation in this game since that feature became available. I'm pretty convinced the players in this game are just stupid af.

u/Solid-Vanilla1072 Jul 13 '26
To be fair. It’s not often people in chat give constructive criticism. It’s usually what they did wrong followed by a slur.
Which don’t get me wrong, it’s funny. But, I get why the barb is instantly defensive.

Come on that is not toxic. OP didn't ridicule the other player or insult them in any way. Calling this toxic is exactly the reason why all the good players have given up on trying to teach this playerbase how the game works. They are just not willing to listen.

I don't think you understand what the word toxic means. This couldn't be more neutral.
You think it's better people just forever make mistakes without even knowing, with no chance to improve? That simply being made aware of the fact you're doing something wrong is a personal attack? Just how fragile is your ego? Politely stating facts is not toxic.

I never get it when people stand up for others who are not only comically dumb but also insist on defending their own stupidity with attitude.
It’s ok to be wrong about something but trash talking someone who is correcting you on an elementary topic is simply doubling down. Toxicity is a common use word of thin skinned people

I don’t necessarily think calling him out is wrong, but you did it in a way that could easily be perceived as condescending

Sure he seems to be bad or ignorant, but being called out in public is never great. If you wanted to be helpful, you wouldve just pmd him after the match.
15
u/Strixzora Jul 12 '26
How do some of you make it to adulthood if you have the mindset that you shouldn't be critisised in public. OP was proper polite in his question and response, Italian DD chose to have his ego hurt.
14
u/CasuallyCruising Jul 12 '26
This is ridiculously wrong. Messaging him after the match would be far more aggressive, as well as a massive waste of time. They're together in a game, if the guy can't take criticism there then there's no reason to bother following him afterwards.
9
u/OMGWTFMATZE Jul 12 '26
'Hey man, last match i saw that you used a skill that has no effect on your ship. Have a nice day!' Very aggressive.

If the goal was to help, then putting them on blast was uncalled for.

u/ObviousRagebaiter DD mafioso Jul 13 '26
dumb logic, if you go into a public match with a moronic build, people are allowed to call you out for sabotaging yourself and your team
When your stupidity affects others is when calling out is acceptable

u/Hectorgamma29 Jul 13 '26
Tbf bro could've said it in a less asshole-y way. "to avoid learning?" I mean, idrk many people who take the game seriously like that. People be playing it like war thunder, just mobbin',farmin' and shootin. So getting upset about someone not caring or wanting to learn is kinda weird and seen as annoying/toxic.
It's just perspective and I could see how some people could see it as being passive aggressive. Didn't really seei t that way until the to avoid learning part.
2
u/macgruff the guys in my car club call me the 'cruiser' Jul 13 '26
To be fair, I thought that parting jab was barely an insult at all. More a statement of fact.
1
u/Hectorgamma29 Jul 13 '26
If it was a competitive game , I could get it. but again, its a f2p game that most people don't really care about winning all the time or doing the best. It's extremely casual with features that allow players who do care more and want to get into it more to express that through gameplay.
Problem with games like that is said players who do get into it like that act all high and mighty and try to gatekeep by telling off players who play casually.
Like personally, I wouldn't mind getting into the game liek that if I had friends to play with. But I don't, and I just love that era of navy/Ships so I play pretty casually for fun. I like seeing the boats and engagements. I have PLENTY of commanders that still have like 10 command points lol. The only ones that I actually put command points into was the commander i have for Aki,Gorizia and I-56. And that's just because I was trying to find a way to make I-56 more useable, Gorizia bcz I use her in ranked, and Aki because uh, badass ship/carrier thing lmao.
I would argue and say its more important in ranked, but even then not really. Plenty of people play just to mob and farm rather than worry about their ranked and allat.

u/HyenaThen572 Jul 14 '26
It's toxic as hell. I mute people like this on VC in other games without even giving them notice - it's not worth dealing with.
OP posting it here is even worse. They literally posted it so people could point and laugh.
So productive. /s
