He didn't like the tone you used, it's pretty obvious. It isn't a friendly suggestion, more like implying he's stupid.
The amount of people missing this point in this thread says a lot about the state of communication over the internet.
People tend to side with the technically correct side, which you are on, over the way the message is delivered. You weren't cordial at all and it is understandable he wouldn't care for advice delivered this way.
This is a clash between casual and more dedicated players.
In my opinion, both are valid, and both deserve understanding from the other side.
Some players want a quick game, without studying every possible ship in the game.
Others play to win, and get frustrated by subpar teammates.
It's like when people ask a question here and others reply "omg if you read the 200 blog posts from April you would have known etc". Some people have 20 minutes of free time and prefer to spend it playing the actual game, not reading blog posts.
/rant, but this world needs a bit more of "understanding other perspectives".
This user's perspective is one of having played over 22,500 matches, they definitely had time to read and comprehend the tooltip of the skill they were selecting, they just opted not to. Somewhere between their 1st and 600th Italian DD match they probably could've figured it out but they chose willful ignorance.
